  1. race cars dont have cupholders, so obviously neither do subarus. it just wouldn be rite. i can set coffee on the dash of my ea82 when the axles are good.
  2. "EA82 flywheel and pressure plate which have a 8 7/8 design EA81 clutch disk with a 21 spline hub" quote thingy so i need a 4wd ea82 flywheel? and the ea81 has an 8 7/8 clutch disc? ug... thanks for all your help guys!
  3. think of it this way. if your threads pulled out, it either means you got your motor too hot before the rebuild! or you are using a torque wrench that is broken you are looking at a misprint in the chiltons and you are torquing too much.(happened to me on rod bolts) junkyard motors are cheap:brow:
  4. THANK YOU very much for the rosponse. its nice to know somebody who isnt in austrailia can help. im actually swapping the whole motor and wiring from an xt.
  5. WELL, i know for a fact that the 2wd ea82 clutch disc will not fit on the splines of a 4wd ea82 tranny. so are there three different tranny splines, or two? im sure i'll find out tomorrow, when i get the ea81 engine out of the car. i am just wondering if i should go pull a two wheel drive engine just for a flywheel i may or may not use.
  6. and... the splines on the ea81 tranny are the same as the splines on the 2wd ea82 tranny right? i always thought the ea82 2wd tranny splines and clutch is the same as the ea81.
  7. ok... im bolting a ea82 to a ea81 tranny. a ea82 2wheel drive flywheel, with the clutch to match, will work right?
  8. im puting late 80s mpfi into my ea81 car, and i need a hand with wiring. i have asked for advice here, and got no responses. i know there are people runing around with them in everything from vws to porches. but i cant find anyone who has written up a step by step, or even a paragraph about how to make the mpfi work. stuff like, should i leave it all in one huge piece, and just plug in motor stuff, and give it power? should i chop it up and make an entirely new one? if the engine speed sensor isnt hooked up, will performance be lost? i have layed it out next to a diagram, and have someideas, but ineed some direction. is ther another message board i should be directing these questions to, or what? maybe an aircraft or buggy page? any suggestions will help.
  9. 87 gl with an ea71? thats wierd... best mod for a ea71 is an engine swap.
  10. i could do that, if there is some interest. i have flowed harley heads, toyota v6 heads, lawn mower heads:headbang: , all that. these will be pretty mild, just looking for better mpg and free horsepower. about the cracks, i peened them, hit them with a punch. to close them up, and keep them from being ignition points for pings. thought about hitting them with the tig, but didnt want the seats to fly out at me.
  11. if nothing else, the ea82s will get better mileage, carb. or efi. they are both just as reliable as far as i can tell
  12. that only works on local use uhauls, if you pick it up 6hours away, and deliver it with 20 miles on it, they will get wise to you. its not alway a 16year old kid runing things, alot of times the old timers are there. give driving it home a shot. as long as the head gasket is not cracked, it will make it, it is after all a subaru, not a chevy.
  13. the egr will not make you ping! it will run fine withoug an egr at all. look elsewhere.
  14. i know this is not what you want to hear, but a lift costs about 300 bucks. research and developement is what its all about. and thats cheap. just my opinion, never built one myself.
  15. im flowin some ea82 heads. the most problematic area seems to be in the exhaust ports, right behind the valve seat, where the aluminum sticks out. the spot on the exhaust port where the two come together, on the sides, there are little bulges. and on the intake side, where the intake comes together with the heads. these are the areas i worked on most, but have you guys noticed any other areas, that need work? i have also opened up the coolant passage on the intake, and head, where the bottle neck is. should i mess with valve overlap in the combustion chamber? anybody got any pics?
  16. i just blasted two more heads, and they all have cracks between the valves, and even the small ones go down behind the valve seat and into the port. damn weak... might have to tig the crap out of them.
  17. can i get a complete set of keys with locks from subaru anymore? and on the rear hatch of a hatchback, did the little square lock ever work as just a button that you could leave unlocked? because mine will only open with a key or with the in cab lever
  18. i know its cool to use the heads with cracks between the valves, but i have one that got real hot, and the crack on the passenger side head is eroded, and large. i bead blasted it to reveal it was cracked under the valve seat too, so i want to get a better one. and since there was never a hold drilled for egr, it should mean better flow, without that pocket of dead air right outside of the combustion chamber.
  19. i figured it would be just fine, its a lathe, and as long as it is chucked relatively straight, it should work great. kinda like resurfacing it, just on a big scale.
  20. gods personal chariot, thats just good humor. its all great
  21. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=356878
  22. so, i might as well go to the junkyard and get a head from the cold side(drivers) and it shouldnt be cracked as bad as all the hot side ones, and it wouldnt have that damn hole for the egr. this is a revelation to me, cuz i was looking for an uncracked passenger side head for a long time.
