rguyver, your the same one that turboed the ea81, with spfi efi right? pioneer of the spfi to ea81 swap? hope so... its funny how your title is new user =]

what year is the car? water temp sensor for the computer(not the gauge) can do this sometimes. also, if its the first gen efi, it could be your distributor.

Minneapolis Junkyard meet?
archemitis replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
you have to have 2 bucks cash, per person. they wont let you write checks, or use cc s to pay the entrance fee... i think its so they dont have to pay taxes on it. =] -
i only have 150 hp stock, pushing it through a ea 4 speed. beating the hell out of it every chance i get, on the road mostly lately. circle burnouts, clutch drops, shifting through thre gears spining the rear (1) tire. i havent had any problems grinding off gears. but iceracing... dont those always loose 3rd, honda toyota subaru, whatever you got, i think your gonna break trannies. i guess they look the same inside, same width gears, same materials(presumably). id try it.

haha little 5inch what year wagon? the ea81s have some pretty puny bolts up front holding them in. mine is only mounted in the stock areas, and i have jacked the car up on it, have been towed around, but have never winched with it. i have seen bumpers like mcbrats, and the stock subaru a bar that mount to the tie down loops in the front. you could also put some extra mounting points there. if its an ea82, i think its fine, cuz those bolts are bigger.

i dont think the wheels need to be wider, they just need to sit on the car like this@!@##! http://www.f4x4.is/new/photoalbum/?file=oldsite/3504/23321

My pipe-dream for low rpm turbo spooling:
archemitis replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you could always weld your wastegate shut, force all the air through the turbine all the time. then use a blow off valve to regulate boost. but youd blow up your turbo, and have crappy top end. its called forced induction for a reason, not just a fan blowing towards the intake ports. you can take a turbo in your hand, shoot compressed air into the exhaust turbine, and get it to blow alot of air, and make a cool noise, but once you put some load on the blower end of the turbo, it will quickly slow down. air moving by the turbo doesnt make boost. heat is what is realy doing it. -
well, apparently the wind was blowing the wrong way on the way to work, cuz i got her to cruise at 80 for a while, on the way home. gotta wind the hell out of third, then drop into 4th on a downhill. timing is clocked, have cold air intake on the carb =p, i think i need to gut the cat and put an open muff on there. i run the 4 speed with my 2.7 xt6 motor, and with twice the power, its no problem at all, even with 28 inch tires, but 65 hp oof! its gonna be even slower with subs =[ and, i dont think my gas mileage is gonna be that good, if im holding the throttle wide open in 4th gear, even tho the rmps are at 3k.

ea81 lighting/wiring questions
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

Lowering an EA81 Wagon????
archemitis replied to 1984subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
wheres that vomit emotocon when i need it... i like the way subarustyles car looks, but an ea81 might not look so cool with its rounded front and rear end, without an airdam and roll pan thing. but, you can reposition the rear torsion bars, and heat the front springs like the honda guys! =] -

i'll be there lookin for ea81 axles, and mpfi bits and pieces, hope theres some good stuff in there... there usualy is.... i'll prolly be there a little earlier. did i mention offroad spots nearby? -
ya, most people only lock the rear cuz its alot easier on a subaru. but... all of your weight is up front in a toyota, they are realy light in the back end, so theres not as much traction back there. with a cast iron block, and big tranny, and xfer case, and front diff... lotsa weight. my cousin runs a street car with locked front diff, welded. its harder to turn, and squirlier in the rain, but its great traction. i wouldnt do it on an offroad subaru tho, one blip of the throttle with wheels turned would snap axles like... well, subaru axles.

and there was that sucker with the spfi conversion saying his spfi crapped out. by the looks of that water line, your computer was wet. subarus kick some serious rump roast.

Weight of different car models
archemitis replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
spare coil, and above all alternator. two things that fail the most on subarus. dont know how many roadside alt changes i've done on the way to or from texas. remember to wash the mud out of the wheel wells before you get a weight. -
found some tan velvet! woot! should hold mud well

my gutted(no interior stuff) hatch with an ea82 and aluminum 15 inch pugs, with larger tires, weighed in at 2100 lbs. -
only a subaru guy can say he was pulled out by 4 atvs that big one is HUGE, note the no swimming sign
-
if the vent line to the canister is plugged, it will do this. the purge solenoid only lets the line to the canister from the manifold open. for a totaly different reason i run a gas cap with a tiny hole drilled in it. lets the tank vent. just not as epa friendly, but alot of caps are vented both ways in the old days. most caps only let air in, not out.

anybody had any problems with seat covers fitting subaru seats? i have ea81 seats now, but will install xt6 seats within the next couple weeks. the same cover should fit both seats right? i have no experience with seat covers, so help me out...
-
its cuz i have an ea81 thats stock! how can you guys bear with this. my 2x is fine with 175 13 inch tires on it, but this 4x with 25 inch tires is hell! i gotta downshift to keep her at 70 mph. i realy wanted to leave this one stock, but damn, im gonna blow her up goin 70 at 5k rpms... or will i? =]
