  1. i think a v8 would pull it apart at the seams. my 2.7 has stressed my body enough offroading. an na 2.2 would make that thing fly. the v8 would only melt the tires.
  2. there is no money in making anything for these old subarus, short of a lift. even then you dont make enough to make it worth it. old subaru owners are cheap, and its hard to pay as much as you payed for the car, for a set of bumpers. just make one off stuff, to impress others. when they ask how they can get one, "say send me some money."
  3. go buy yourself a 200 dollar welder. and 50 bucks worth of steel. look at all pics of bumpers you can find. then get weldin. its realy not that hard
  4. i would be willing to bet money we will never see an er27 in a gen 1 brat, with a hood that closes, or with normal looking front end. no room gettin it runing is the easy part. when i use xt (4or6) harnesses i just take the part from the engine back to the computer. the part where it branches off to the fusebox can be wired by hand. its only three wires. i use the vent line as a return line, because the stock return line is about half the size. i also use the stock steel feed lines, with the rubber replaced with efi hoses. and one big pump in the rear.
  5. not sure if everyone has seen mud like that crap. its alot of iron, so when it hardens, its very very hard. one trip through that mudhole, and my tranny stopped shifting well for the rest of the trip. my motors bigger, so it plugs that hole up better, and i dont get as much in the engine compartment as morganm. i dislike mud even though my cars brown... go figure.
  6. you can damage the motor driving it like that. anyone reading this thread should avoid doing this.
  7. 11.5:1 would be manageable on the street, with a recurved disty. you would have to have your cam reground too, just so you could start it. shaving the heads 40thou is good for about half a point.
  8. i ran a big ea81 clutch on my er27, with 28s and it was great offroad. the xt6 clutch is a bit better tho, but not nessecary. t-case is the way to go... that or buy a toyota.
  9. i was talkin to a guy who said he stuck larger jets in his carburetor on some chevy big block, and he now runs e85, i think thats what it is. 85percent ethanol stuff. its alot cheaper than gas and has alot less emissions. i got this ea81 with a weber, and im thinkin about givin it a try. 100-105 octane anybody do this yet?
  10. oh, your offroadin a turbo, thats why you want to do this... you cant crawl at wide open throttle when your makin boost a turbo motor has as much horsepower than an ea71 untill it starts boostin. its not about peak power at all. its about a fat motor with low end torque
  11. spfi over a carb any day. i hate webers...
  12. you need to adjust your choke. not fast idle screw.
  13. id keep it just for the bumpers. i wouldnt rebuild the motor thats in there, it would cost about 1000 bucks. plus removal and install. you should get a junkyard motor for around 100-200 bucks, with around 100k miles on it. will be good for another 100k... how did you break the old motor? over heat? loud (very loud) lifter tick for a few miles? if the motor blew up, its most likely the reason you could only go 50 uphills, cuz it was on its last leg. a stock motor in good condition should be adequate... better than lettin it sit for montyh/years. overhead cam ea82s bolt right in there, and have about 10-15 more hp. thats alot when you only start with around 65-70
  14. just remember, MUD TIRES ARE HORRIBLE IN SNOW, AND ICE! thats why most of them come ready for metal studs. there are alot of AT tread tires that work great for snow/ice, and pretty good for mud/offorad. ps, cut er up good =]
  15. get em off of the xt6, drill holes and your good.... or forget it, they dont do much anyway. i wash my car when i cant see the headlights through the salt anymore.
  16. a cadillac smooth ride takes totaly different shocks compared to a good handling ride. i thought those shocks were stiffer than stock shocks so they will dampen more and make the ride a little choppier, but you can take corners better, and lay power to the ground without the wheel bouncing as much. maybe your old shocks were worn out just enough to make it feel smooth
  17. its probably nothing you would notice reely. but technicaly. the new motor wants more fuel than the old motor, because of its higher compression, so it could be runing lean unless you rejet. just listen for pinging, and set the timing right and you should be just fine. prolly better gas mileage, but you have to keep your foot out of her.
  18. 60k and im good with mine. everything breaks
  19. my spfi block didnt get enough fuel with the stock ea82 carb. it worked, but not superduper well. i bet it would pass emissions with flying colors tho
  20. try tightening the two original holes first. then check to see how centered the studs are in your drilled holes.
  21. you could probably run the crappiest gas they sell, as long as the carb is jetted right. i doubt a stock subaru carb would feed it enough fuel. might have to use a weber so you can tune it...
  22. different front end, like pointier? just about every car company made a car/pickup in the past. might be one of those dodge ones.
  23. http://www.hastingsmfg.com/Service%20Tips/compression_ring_installation.htm thats a good one too. ring installation is very key
