New Weber Adapter--Wrong Bolt Pattern?
archemitis replied to Bratenstein's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
and since your goin down to the heads now, make sure you dont have to start a "broken intake bolt!" thread. use penetrating oil and heat on your car. on the junkyard one, just twist them off. -
unless your getting some wierd offset, you dont need to mess with the fenders much. just gotta trim the bottoms. close to the door, you wont realy have any room to mount a fender flare, since you gotta cut it and pound it almost all the way back to the door to fit that size tire. mine stick out about one inch, and i have one less inch of backspacing than the pugs...

i r a newb, and i believe you. -
funny stuff about the subaru hardware. they always use the very fine pitch thread. and they only used heat treaded bolts on our cars! thats grade 5 in sae jargon. i used grade 8 standard 3/8 coarse for my front xmember bolts. the stock ones were 10mm grade 5. for the tranny xmember bolts, i found them at a place called Fastenall Eagan MN also, surprisingly napa had them in stock, not enough tho. very helpfull. im sure fastenall would ship to you, but... you have to be able to find them localy. hardware specialists can order you anything you want, but standard is the easiest to find. the rear diff hanger bolts, now thats a different story all together...

also, make sure your using the correct relays. theres two kinds of relays in these subarus. one that gives power when it gets power, and another kind that stops power when the relay gets power. i use the first kind only

Latest mod.... at LEAST 50hp :)
archemitis replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thats cuz the owners dont know about oil changes... jk, i liked the old fart when he was around. -
ya, decked heads, and ea71 pistons, might make for 10.5 to 1... fun stuff to make the ea81t stuff work, youd need the heads too, and then it gets all spensive, and the heads, probably lower the compression. as the turbo and na pistons were the same... afaik

on the gm cars, i have disabled the front end collision sensors in the front bumper. you can drill a hole through the sliding rod, that pushes the switch if the bumper is moved. put a pin in the hole, and the rod wont slide if you crash... no idea on subarus, but id surely disconnect the air bags, along with the anti lock brakes... if i had fancy stuff like that =]

its gettin pretty common these days... not the hp numbers, but spfi on the ea81s. all the sensors are in the manifold, and the distributor. try a search, theres tons of info. just be carefull what you take as fact....

wiring the dash and everything is for suckers, all you need is the engine to computer part. id think your missing a ground somwhere, or your not puting power to the positive post on the coil. do you have the starter wire hooked up? the fuel pump wont turn on till it sees a signal from the starter, or sees the disty turning. good luck, sounds like your reel close.

so many hood scoops! i should have my hatch up there saturday nite. gotta show those kids what a real subaru sounds like
-
technicaly... most lift kits only lower the tranny(and in turn the axles) 2 inches, when the rest of the suspension is lowered 3, or 4 inches. not a huge deal, till you turn up the power! then the small increase in axle angle could destroy cvs in weeks.

ok, EFI's are NOT good in water. seized motor
archemitis replied to gunslinger's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ya, i've lived with hippies. never payin the rent, and stinkin up the house i just think dude man is making the wrong conclusions about efi. -
if you could build stuff... hyundai/mitsubishi eclipse, is a pretty good system to work with. and they ar common over here in the yards. every hyundai i've seen has it. its mpfi, and has a map sensor. so no fancy big ari flow meters to wire in. the hardest part would be gettin the crank angle, or cam angle sensors in there, but its totaly doable =]

ps, avoid the weber

that was my main reason with going to 28s. i want to be able to bury my speedo in my hatch, on the highway. the spfi can make a huge difference, but carbs can be fast too. it all depends on the subaru. i've had mpfi that beats the crap out of a carb , but also had a carb, that would walk all over my spfi... so who knows. just floor it! =]

" - part of the definition of insanity would be believing or professing something that you never witnessed or know anything about. since you werent in the car with me, you wouldnt know exactly what happened, correct? i hope my point has been made. im not coming to any conclusions about anybody on here so i hope the same courtesy would be shown to me. thanks and good night. thou art a newb. i've done 4 efi swaps, without a "manual" or however you got er done. "make" a snorkel. and dont badmouth efis. it just makes you look long whinded. you got efi so you dont have to warm up your car? thats great. floor it when its cold! -
88 GL-10 possible fuel pump upgrade?
archemitis replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
why would it make a difference in performance? i have the same 90 psi pump on an na mpfi, and an na er27, and the same pump feeds them fine. unless you adjust your adjustable fpr above what the subaru pump can push, then youd get more power, but that isnt happening. your not outruning your stock pump. check the ford trucks... 40 bucks =] you gotta make them look in the other book.
