  1. i had to move mine for a motor swap, thats the only reason i would see to ditch it. but... i never used one, and i've driven subarus since 97, they all had them that worked. i just dont use them.
  2. i drove on home from wisconsin, only about 30 miles. it was for my girlfriend. after driving it, i had to have that motor for my hatchback. 30 miles and i was hooked. you'll love it. its not like being in an 80s subaru, it can go 80 uphill! its crazy! 800 isnt bad for around here. air suspension breaks, can be switched with legacy suspension(pleanty in the yards). power steering often needs new brushes, and special fluid and thats about it. radiator is almost always needed up here, and is hard to find for less than 300 bucks =/ thats about it. cool car, get spare parts, theyre hard to find around here. make sure you warm it up, and give it a good test drive. alot of them idle funny, and if you can get it to do it, it might be a good talking down point =]
  3. i know people swear by webers, but having messed with one for a year, with less than spectacular results... id say you are in the same boat. efi will be a world of difference. i dont guarantee anything but i would bet money you will smile alot more =]
  4. buy em from me. if nothing else, theres an amusing pic. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=258492#post258492 may be spensive, may be reasonable, you decide.
  5. heck yeah, if you have brat cams and hig compression, goin ea82 would be a step backwards=] youd need to modify a disty, with parts from both, other than that pretty easy deal. best of both! =]
  6. if you want... just get a motor. morganm is stripping a loyale atm, with spfi. im sure hed let some spfi stuff go for very cheap. then all you need to find is a good longblock but ya, i'll help you all i can. and seems like the spfi even has a manual or something
  7. a brat cam is supposed to help with low end torque. i know my brat would beat my ea82, that supposedly had 30 more hp. you need a brat cam, and more compression!. compression is the best low end power gain you can do. other than cubic inches.
  8. they are great cars, handle good. they will never be confused with a honda, especialy when you rev it up. the steering system breaks, but is easy to fix, same as the air suspension. the motors seem to be tougher than the ea82s, and the pan holds 5.5 quarts =]. and... i like the super 80s interior. best seats subaru made, aside from wrx stuff. i like em alot.
  9. the flapper system is very easy to wire, and afaik, its less complex, because it uses the optical disty. i like my flapper, but my er27 is a hotwire, with the optical.
  10. i agree, lack of return spring wont hurt a thing. i drove all summer without one, on a used clutch. mechanic screwed up, and he probably cant think of why, so he blamed it on you.
  11. no big deal. just use the flapper mpfi system subaru used in 85-87 cars. it used a vac operated standard distributor. the fuel injection was just that, controlled the fuel, not the spark. drill for the injectors and do it up! =]
  12. im pretty sure they bolt right in.
  13. true duals dont seem to work well at all. i tried all kinds of dual exhaust, as well as morganm. baffles, no baffles, cherry bombs, it seems like if its not x or h piped over it will run like crap, and sound like an airplane. but if you want it just to sound cool, those things sound like v8s with a hole just behind the first cat =] low deep rumble.
  14. that, and youd have to move the tranny back about a foot, to make room for the motor. 4.3, or 5.7.
  15. i know you guys are talkin 14s but this is a big reason i amost have to go big with the 235/75r15s. there arent many manufacturers making big tread for our little cars =/
  16. i have a spare 86 ea81 hatchback 4x. i have always wanted to race something... im entertaining the idea of ice racing, or possibly autox. id lower it and make it all handly... but whadaya thing, i know nothing about racing import cars. ps, i could mpfi it and turbo it or something if i need to
  17. i believe its 7mm of ofset per inch of lift.. or 20-22 degrees for a 4 inch lift. i'll have to look at my notes to be sure though... im very bad at remembering numbers... a spark plug is gapped at .4 right jk
  18. yeah! i run those wheels on an 86 hatch. they are good stuff! even with 25inch tires you wont have any problems. mine dont stick past the fenders with the tires i have, and unless you have a lift.... id guess you would pick smaller tires than me. nice wheels, dont worry a bit
  19. its common practice, although i have never been in the situation to do it myslef.
  20. and they are 7 inches wide. i think they have one less inch of backspacing than my pug alloys.
