Carb, Elect Carb, SPFI MPFI
archemitis replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
spfi has lightning fast throttle response. way faster than any carb i've mashed on. more hp, prolly debatable, a weber might givemore peak hp, but a spfi will deliver more overall hp. in my opinion annyway -
all you ea81 guys, who think you have 150hp
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yar, hp makes it cool! obviously. the ea81 to bearing doesnt fit on the spring fingers of the xt6/ea82 pp. im leavin for texas on wednesday in this vehicle, and its currently -6 and its supposed to get down to -30 or some crazy stuffs so i cant go pull me a 5 speed atm. -
How to determine knock/ping/detonation

lifters? exhaust leaks? i dont know why a carbed ea82 would ever knock. -
Weberized EA81: IT RUNS! ..for the most part.
archemitis replied to RavenTBK's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had some simular symptoms, when my plunger in the top of my disty cap fell out, and just the spring was making the spark path complete. im not saying thats what it is, but it almost sounds like ignition to me. have you removed the things that say "do not remove" in the disty. your magnet could be cracked... just a guess. -
ok, this is usualy a big problem unless you go with an ea82 style tranny. well, the reason is that the release bearing is too small to enguage the xt6 spring fingers. and you cant run the bigger xt6 bearing, because it doesnt fit on your tranny(4speed). well, i think i have a good solution. i have a guy looking for a bearing with the large surface for the xt6 fingers, and the smaller bore for our tranny shafts. i will know for sure tomorrow, but that would mean a pretty much indestructible clutch setup, for people runing ea81s. if there is another way, please tell me, and try not to make me feel dumb. =]

ya, i wasnt tryin to start a pissing match. i just want to know how guys in my position handle ALOT higher than stock hp. apparently the stock ea81, and ea82 pressure plate are the same part, cept for the center spline count. -

Help With Charging Problem? (!!!!SOLVED!!!!)
archemitis replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have bought "new" alternators that were in worse shape than the ones i was replacing. several places tested morganms alt and told him it was fine. swaped in a junkyard alt, and it fixed all the problems. sounds like an alt to me. -

to me it sounds like a gremlin in the engine with a ball pin hammer. only at, or close to full throttle, and mostly under load -

sweet! constructive conversation =] yes, i didnt have a return spring at first. but i added one, and it does the same thing. my plate measured almost as thick as stock, when i installed it. but the pressure plate could be a little old =/ in your opinion, shouldnt a stock ea81 clutch hold this power if i drive like a normal person? like no full throttle till i get the clutch to hook up, and 4th speed roll ons? i do have the same size diameter clutch as the xt6 i realy like my 4 speed i have right now, and would like to run it for now. -
well, 75 would be good. but i got 100% more =]

How sensitive are these cars to a bad O2 sensor?
archemitis replied to oldblue2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i ran all last summer with no 02 sensor. still got well over 20 mpg. the computer doesnt look at it when the engine is cold. or when you have your foot on the floor. -

archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
heheh, good thread. i dont care what you guys THINK you are runing. i have 150hp as my motor sat in stock form. 2.5 inch exh. ported manifold, big intake. i must have more now. with my 4 speed, there is no clutch options other than stock, or upgraded stock. my spline is too small to run the xt6 stuff. no combo works. so the high hp ea81 guys must be runing 5 speeds? all so secretive about bull****! tell us what you did, and show dyno sheets like myxaplyx! -

can i run xt6 tanny in front wheel drive?
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this would be in a hatchback, with no rear drive shaft, untill i could have one made. strip the diff lock huh? doh -
im not good at tying all the words together, with what i know. i need to see them all in front of me to understand.... i want an xt6 5 speed tranny in my hatchback... which axles, or a combination of axles could i use to accomplish this?

my funny clutch issues (hp guys plees read)
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ya, if you mix the clutches, and flywheels, it either puts way too much pressure, or way not enough pressure on the disc. -

i have an ea81 8 7/8 flywheel, redrilled. ea81 clutch plate, 5k not so hard miles. ea81 pressure plate. now, as far as i can tell, it held my 90 horse power flawlessly. i have an xt6 tranny, and flywheel, and all that, i might be goin 5 speed. but i want to keep my dual range, and use the tanny i have in there now. thanks for any thoughts.
