subarus can do alot, they can tow twice their weight, but... how long? a subaru towing a subaru would overheat, or come close to it, over 50 mph, as far as i have seen. the more you tow, the shorter the cars life gets.

archemitis replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
"it SHOULD need a bracket, and I would HIGHLY recommend one to be made like the stock one to fit the new header...but at this time I have not done so." ya... otherwise you'll be makin a thread about helicoiling the exhaust studs in your head, cuz you'll rip em out. -

5 lug swap question, not the same old one =]
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah miles, i have read the little bit of info i could find about your ea82 suspension on the ea81s. its just welding on one hanger a bit further back? i wasnt sure if you said just drilling out the ball joint hole bigger would work or not.... -
longer travel shocks or struts 85 wagon?
archemitis replied to sheppie62's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you gotta look around man. search works good here the "transfer case mod", is about the only way to lower gearing for bigger tires. gotta get a lift to get more travel afaik, but a lift alone doesnt help afaik -
EA81 Front strut question???
archemitis replied to stansgl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i cranked mine half way up and have put about 5k miles on them that way, i did eat up a couple axles this year, but not sure if thats what did it. -
seems wierd, could your door not be opening all the way, letting some cold air in with the heat? are both hoses going to your heater core getting hot? if one side is cold, or even cooler, when you heater isnt on, it could indicate a clogged heatercore. if one is cooler than the other when the blower is going, thats normal.

Flywheel with no marks on it
archemitis replied to Vanislru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
never looked for a window in the bell housing, but my xt6 hat timing marks on the front pulley, just like chevys, and everything else, i have ever seen. -
puttin a er27 in my hatch, now that motor hangs out further in front, and weighs a bit more than the original motor. im trying to decide if i need to do the 5 lug swap, so i can run legacy shocks up front. the legacy shocks(not exactly sure wich ones) should be set up for more weight than my ea81. im just wonderin if this would be a good reason in doing the 5 lug. are there any other advantages to this over runing pugs, with rear discs, with the 4 lugs?

ac kills subarus imo. -
Flywheel with no marks on it
archemitis replied to Vanislru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
what? you have to have marks on your flywheel. they are barely deep enough to catch your fingernail. there are tdc marks, and then there are the timing beltmarks that look like lll -
i do that about once a week =] usually nacho cheese and bean dip.

Let me get a T. W. E.!!! YEAH!
archemitis replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
those look mean! dont get mad at me... please, just a question. have these guys made long turbo headers like this before? im concerned since its so many pieces that the heat could make the welds come apart. just because the only tube turbo manifold i have seen have been on inline 4s, and theres alot more strength there. just a question =] -
Subaru STI 555 VERSION 2 engine in a brat?
archemitis replied to 1979BratOwner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have done a few efi swaps, and i think 5 hours would be fine, considering, i just hook up the wires i need and bundle the rest and hide it somewhere(like the floorboard:lol: ). but without a computer, yes all the wiring in the world wont help. if i had the cash, i would be looking at badass motors like this one, but since im extra cheap/poor, i have only had the privelidge, of mpfi ea82s. and resently er27! -
drive an xt6, then you'll be saying ,"whats an rx?"

Subaru STI 555 VERSION 2 engine in a brat?
archemitis replied to 1979BratOwner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
we use a stand alone ecu for $1300, that way you wont need to spend 20 hours of cuostom wiring... thats a good one. id wire that up in 5 hours, and keep my 1300 bucks. these guys say anything to sell you stuff -
XT-6 5 bolt hubs on EA81?
archemitis replied to subiewonkenobi's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
miles, your welding this stuff up, and then jumping stuff with it right? i want xt6 lugs on my hatch, but welding a controll arm support seems scary. got any pics anywhere of this stuff? does it make the track wider? what about the rear? is that the easy part? you seem to be the only one that has done this particular modification. -

its fun bein parked next to stis, and wrxs and have the kids come over and look the hood of a brown 86 hatcback. -
im crazy for the er27 since i got to start driving one on a daily basis.big and loud! =] but the 2.2 pulls very good too, and is extra cheap in junkyards. all you realy need is the motor, with the intake, and harness, and the wiring, that goes from the motor to the computer, a front clip would be overkill imo.

Light in the center of the grill
archemitis replied to Birddog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i didnt use the cover, or the motor, so wiring was just three wires.
