  1. yes! you need one of each wires coming off the distrubutor, hooked to the coil. red+ yellow-. also you need the power wire goin to the coil, and the other yellow wire is for you tachometer. gotta have a complete circuit.
  2. i swear i replied to this post last nite. napa clutches are great, parts plus clutches are great, auto zone clutches are great. i have a xt mpfi motor in an ea81 car, and it breaks motor mounts all the time, but my $30 clutch from www.thepartsbin.com works great. never felt it slip. my pressure plate was ok, so all i bought was the disc. this may be a good option for you. this is one car company that actualy didnt skimp on the clutch design, like my toyota that burns a clutch disc a year(till i switched to a centerforce) pretty much any clutch you buy, will hold up to anything your ea81 can throw at it.
  3. ya, i was screwin around some more, and the chain idea should keep them from breaking, while leaving the rubber to do its job. but my cousin says he has tried the chain, and you can feel when it hits it full extension, and its kinda jarring. the eurethane, must be just about solid mount right?
  4. i just pulled the engine, on my offroad hatch, and noticed i had two broken rubber motor mounts, last time i pulled the motor i had one broken in half... im tired of it, as it makes my car wobble funny when the tires spin, and when im goin between 55 and 60. so i took some good ones, bead blasted them, and welded metal plates to the sides, to make them completely solid. if the vibration inside the cab in unbearable, i will take some more stock ones, and weld on some chain travel limiters. but untill then, im runin it completely solid. motor should be back in another car tomorrow, so i can see how they work. i'll post some pics tomorrow too.
  5. subarutex...when you start a thread trying to make fun of somebody elses car, maybe you should be ready to have peepl pick fights... i mean how hard is it to make fun of somebodys car that will never see you making fun of it. maybe the kid came to terms that his car will always look faster than it acutaly is, and drives in traffic alot, so he went with an auto. a hood scoop and some rims on a wagon might seem kinda riced out to some peepl, just like a wing, and an auto. if you cant take, dont dish it out.... wtf, irl?
  6. the little condensor thingy, goes to the positive, and it should be grounded somewhere, as scary as that sounds... check firing order before you pull the disty and start all over from scratch.
  7. o crap just read you need to pass smog.... i still say ditch the air suction valves, make sure your exhaust is sealed up, all the way back, and get your cat hot before you get it tested. assuming your cat isnt clogged =]. something funny: i had a brat from cali, with the feedback carb, and the o2 sensor in the exhaust... the o2 sensor was the same thread as a spark plug, what if you got your old coil and hooked it up to that, and made it spark inside your cat, just for the smog test, it should burn up any unburnt stuff
  8. well thats funny, the egr acutaly lets exhaust gas into your intake. if anything that would make your car slower... the exhuast gets let into the intake, past the filter housing, and direclty into one side of the engine. i would rebuild that aluminum blockoff plate, and put one back on. its supposed to reduce combustion champer temperatures, but if you ask me they are just bs, to make emissions come out lower. i dont run them on anything, and have no bad results at all. there are also air suction valves, they could be screwed, letting the exhuast direclty into your aircleaner housing. you can take the two big hoses, coming from the funny boxes connected to your exhaust flanges, by metal tubes, and plug the rubber ones with a spark plug, or something like that. thats my guess now that i think about it. the valves can break, and its a direclt link between the exh. and the int.
  9. damn dude, wear a michael jackson mask when you go outside then =]
  10. thats great. one thing i have noticed, is that alot of the shops, that are subaru specific, are so tired of hearing from kids from the usmb, that often they give you the short answer, and arent too helpfull, because they get the same call day after day.
  11. ya, i was thinkin ,"how has joe not seen this thing yet?" till i saw that he originaly posted it 6 months ago.
  12. ya im kinda confused, do you mean clogged with oil? if so clogged pcv, too much blowby, or you left the cap off the oil fill tube =]
  13. but that web sight says turbos rob power too, because they take back pressure to run them =p. neglecting to mention a turbo is less restrictive than a stock exahust system.
  14. that looks like one of those bigass filters. i have one on my ea82 wagon, it uses a filter from a ford turbo diesel. i think its a p1 pennsoil... pretty much the biggest filter for a ford truck. same treads as the subaru, but alot bigger gasket sealing area.
  15. now a gas powered leaf blower... that makes sence to me.
  16. i bet that looks great on a dyno, but on the street the BANK OF BATTERIES in the trunk, will work a little differently. how many batteries? how much weight. if you could make hp from electricity, without any loss you would have a perpetual energy machine. i always thought this was snake oil. why not plumb in a turbo and go to town!_?
  17. i was thnking of leavin the crossmember where it is, and just moving the tranny crossmember, and the engine/tranny.
  18. if you tig weld on heads, the valve seats will pop out at your face like hot flying saucers of death! take my word for it =]
  19. man, too easy. anybody notice that tho, im searchin google, for all kinds of subaru stuff, but all i find is posts, and archives from the usmb.
  20. its awesome how when i type in anything subaru, a link to the usmb is always at the top. i wish there were definate best message boards for all the other cars i drive. but it also makes it hard to find other stuff about subarus. can somebody post a link to the xt6 message board? or is it just the xt message board? thanks
  21. i think its a very good place. i got the punch idea from an old harley mechanic. those heads cracked alot =].
  22. ya, i drive subarus and hangout in the older generation forum, cuz i have very little cash flow, but it still allows me to make alot of 1000 bucks, or less. you might have to try ebay, or the xt6 boards, or some other place, that attracts peepl with more money than brains . 4500 is way less than you would ever pay for a lifted toyota with all the goodies, but i guess thats just the way subarus are. most peepl see them as throwaway cars. look at the average xt6 price on the web, and its around 2500 bucks, add all the work, and stuff... man you gotta find the right buyer =]
  23. so your saying the cv axles have to be straight out from the tranny... i guess the up and down motion, and the forward angle, might make for binding?
