  1. well, i go about stuff the wrong way i suppose, but i have run several rhb turbos, that had cracked cast iron. seems like fords and isuzus have the same thing happen (but much more often) and as long as it doesnt leak i say run it =]. but if your rebuilding a motor, or can find one easy enough, i would say replacing it would not hurt.
  2. just wanted to make sure everybody sees this one... if your in minnesota, its pretty close, wherever you are. i wanna see a buncha subarus! =] http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22464
  3. i guess 27s should fit with a bit of trimming and hammering, but 25s sould fit without any prob, and look good imo.
  4. just because you might be able to accomplish something, doesnt mean you should. different is not always better. a 2.2 engine, with the stock, or legacy suspension makes so much more sence, weighs less, aluminum block, and tranny... most of all its not american crap!_! just take out the front axles, run the rear end you want, with independant suspension. cast iron is for suckers. solid axles for the street? where did you get these ideas? you just lookin for a chrome pumpkin cover? look at foreigh cars, they are quick and nimble because they didnt use the heavy outdated pushrod engine, with a giant overweight frame. do you ever see drag racing hondas go with a stinkin ladder frame? cast iron rear ends? that weighs more than the engine that was stock in that car just sounds like a horrible pipe dream to me. adding weight will not get you to 11seconds. im done, i will just wait for the pictures, and the quarter mile times. =p
  5. heh, i know how subarus like to break down, and get stranded, but i got enough parts to fix what ales your little beast, so dont let that thought stop you from coming =]
  6. not sure if anybody realistic, has answered any of your posts on this dream you have... but wtf? solid axles for the street huh, sounds like a great plan 2.8 for drag racing on the street huh, again great plan how much do you want this thing to weigh, once you put a unibody car on a solid frame, theres no way to have it sit on the ground, and it will weigh more than the camaro you should be driving anyway. shaved handles? what are you trying to do here? you dont think its gonna look trashy? _________________________________________________ planned mods completed by 2020: twin turbo 2.2 with a 6 speed from a mustang, with 1 inch of ground clearance, with hydrolics, curb feelers, CHROME chain steering wheel, velour brougham camaro seats, helium filled tube frame, so it will weigh less, 20 inch pimp wheels, 8 ball shifter, moms shower curtain, for the back window..... more to come!
  7. also, im thinking we will camp for one nite, and have a fun trail runin day. hopefully chef tim, mcbrat, xt6joe, projectbrat, miles fox(and the guys), anybody thats close enough to roll on up and have a good ole subaru bashin time. =] i know its kinda short notice, but anybody that can possibly make it should, stock subaru, or lifted beast.
  8. just for reference, my buddy that drove a subaru with a burnt headgasket, till it died, then poped the clutch, made it start, then drove it 20 more miles... not the smartest, or mechanically inclined. he installed one, first windo install ever, i bought the car, and it never leaked, thats why i say its easy the hard part was gettin the spiderwebed glass out without scrapin the paint too much with a putty knife.
  9. those windows are pretty easy to install. 3m windshield adhesive will work well(and has for me). just make sure you dont get the stuff, that is meant to repair a leaky windshield seal, as its alot more viscious, so it flows, instead of sticks.
  10. hahaha, just talked to him, sounds like his ilder pullies siezed up. were planning a recovery. timing belts is the only thing that has ever screwed me on a subaru. hes only got about 20k on that set =[
  11. screw that, lets go get it i have done a timing belt on the side of the road, and i got spare belts!
  12. its more or less a throttle positon guage for your eyes. the best combo is a vac guage, and a air fuel guage. the air fuel guage, tells you when you go into closed loop, and use the most fuel. anywhere on the manifold, below the throttle plate would work for a spfi, just like a carb model
  13. ya, cept for the fun of wiring, but i could give you some good pointers if you go that way.
  14. it wont do anything to oil pressure, if you have clicky lifters, it might fix that... but it should just fix your leak. whats wrong with your oil pressure?
  15. my hobart 135? i thnk... works very well, can be run with or witout sheilding gas, and has a 7 year warrantee =]. very happy with the way it works, lincolns are great too. i have even had good luck with a 200 dollar generic one, that worked for 4 years, and still is to my knowledg.
  16. completely understandable =] 27 superswampers would be nice... whats the deal with swampers, you can get cheap ones, that suck on the highway, but the same ones from teh same company, with steel belts, are supposed to be better on street? for almost twice the cost?
  17. are you guys back yet? what broke? i must know!
  18. i gotta look at this megasquirt stuff, if nothing else just to use the gm coil pack, and 3 bar map sensor i have laying around.
  19. thats not nearly the same thing, at all. its a very easy install, and im sure it has been done by peepl who didnt even know it was never done stock. the ea82 swap is just as easy as replacing the stock motor with the same piece, and if you think installing a subaru motor is a pain in the rump roast, you should try a sidewinder, or a v8.
  20. buy it and cut it yourself, a roll is alot cheaper than a precut piece, and you can get the stuff that doesnt have to have a seam sewn on the sides, so it doesnt unravel... check you phone book, bet you could find the right stuff locally. apolstery
