Mounted gauges in dash of RX (pictures DUW)
archemitis replied to gravelRX's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ya, i had the same two guages in the same spot. lemme see here, look down while boosting. not the best... looks great!_! -
oh, and my cousin reports his brat(ea81 solid lifter) would go 80-85 mph from texas to minnesota, in about 15 hours usually. endurance
-
my two wheel drive hatch with the stock hydrolic ea81 5 speed will go as fast as my ea82 one, but it prolly weighs 2-300 less. the one with the 15 inch wheels is alot more stable at speed though

early mpfi ea81/ea82 disty advance question
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
tried the t trick, and it seems different... i'll have to get it on the highway to tell any reel gains. no timing lite test either. there needs to be a section on a board just for the early flapper style mpfi systems, cuz they are so differnet from the ea82 hotwire setup, and the legacy stuff. -
with my 25.5s im supopsedley only 5 mph off at 65. so 65 is 70 i guess... did any ea81 speedos other than digi go past 85?
-
so im the only sucker i know working the day after the 4th so im bored... whats the fastest you guys have had an ea81 car. not nessecarily an ea81 engine. do the turbos go 100? or does the auto tranny not suport those kinds of rpms. i have 25.5 inch tires and an ea82 engine in a hatch, and i have had her up to 99, measured with a gps. straight road, no hills. the speedo was pointing almost straight down. i dont think my antenna is rated for that kind of speed, because its starting to point backwards.

ok, so im messin with my distributors on my ea82 mpfi. the stock one has two vac ports, and all the carb ones i see have only one. just for reference the fuel injection on these cars is just that, fuel injection. it has nothing to do with the timing at all, cept if you have a knock sensor. but then it just retards it. i ran a carb one, and blocked off the extra hose comin off my manifold, but the bushing is worn so my tach jumps alot. so i came across a 2wd disty from a xt, with mpfi. it has the two ports. i ran it with the second(bottom) vac tube plugged, and only the top one gets ported vac. it looks like on the ones wiht two ports, makes the mechanism go the same way when you apply vac, so im guessing its not a retard mechanism. my little vac controller box is broken and does not function so i cant figure out when it gives vac.... so im thinkin if it is a progressive vac advance, little at first, more at full throttle, could i put these two ports on a t and put it to ported vac, to get more advance faster? my car weighs less than anything this motor or disty was designed for, so im not too worried about pinging because of load. anybody have any exp with the mpfi motors and messin around with timing advance? any help would be greatly appreciated. even ideas, that might not seem to apply.=]

20s look dumb on big old muscle cars, youd be smokin crack to go with anything bigger than 17s on a subaru, yo. and theres the matter of your rims costing more than the whole car! and the subaru parked next to it, combined

EA71 Pistons in EA81/EA82..?
archemitis replied to PoorManzImpreza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you have a perfectly good time tested option for the ea82 to get you to 9.5 to one, which is pretty good. ea82 na spfi pistons i guess lotsa peepl have dont the ea71 to the ea81, but never heard much about it. i think deckin the heads, would be the safest/best way to go. especially with cams!_! -
A wierd one. what do you think of this????

Need color coded wiring diagrams, 85 ea82
archemitis replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you do get one, you cant trust the colors -
throw that manual away. =] i think only the older style subarus had the single nut in the middle that you can turn for the rear lift. all of the ea82s (like your rx) i have seen have adjusters built into the strut, and require turning a very large part on the strut, at the bottom of the spring.

84 GL Hesitates Big Time
archemitis replied to slimjim40s's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i wonder if its a vac leak, and at startup when the choke is still on, its ok, because of all the fuel making up for the air leaking in. maybe... -
my subaru is running a supertrapp off of a harley. and my brother had an 83 corolla with one hd muffler, with the baffle punched of course. if you do it punch the baffle, otherwise you'll most likely be quieter than stock. i work at a hd dealership, so i got way too many harley parts on my subaru. one has a harley ignition switch to turn my fans on and off.

my favorite thing in the world it to find a subaru with around 120k on it, and noticing the timnig belt is broke. score!_! junkyard motors rule.

Sputters when turning left

gd, measure some other cars. my ea82 and ea81 stock fuel pump both read about 4 lbs on a guage, differnt guages. -
Problems up the ying yang
archemitis replied to redrum3433's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
your idle circuit doesnt have a cutoff switch, ceptwhen the cars not runing. you idle circuit is spitting gas, even when its floored. the hand choke trick works well -

GD=angry you can fix carbs by reving them, then stickin your hand over the carb, till it amost dies. makes huge vaccum in the carb and sucks everything out through the jets. -

my guage drops to 0 all the time, dont trust that thing, if you loose oil pressure you will hear it. your idle could be adjusted higher, so it doesnt die, and if you run seafoam it might work good as new. and the key... put on a toggel and a push button. i hate takin that thing out of subarus
