  1. this thread is still at the top? have i mentioned my er27 makes as much horse power as alot of 80s v8s? 150 hp. if you want more, get a different Subaru engine cast iron blocks are for suckers.
  2. i agree. dont drive it in as far, or put it in backwards. but... id never go that far on one of these motors. junkyard motor baby!_!
  3. theres a wierd spring loaded, hydrolic?, thing, held on with two bolts. totaly different than the ea82 stuff. it puts pressure on the tensioner pulley on the drivers side belt. i was a big fan of runing no belt covers... untill morganm siezed two idler pulleys in one year without covers. his is an offroader tho, and saw alot of dirt. apparently if you keep them lubed with spraylube, they will last longer.
  4. its my winter beater, so i have no issues with runing it in 4x4 on the highway at 80 ;]
  5. er 27s dont break timing belts like the ea82s do. the pullies sieze, or the hydro thingy goes out, in turn eating the belt.
  6. yes it would, they put the turbos on the other side!_! i think
  7. i disconnect them altogether. i had one that would make me do a burnout every once in a while when i left stop lights. i always figured they draged a little when you took off, before they release, making for worse gas mileage?
  8. i would vomit if i ever had to shift with my left hand. itd be like driving an early 70s motorcycle with the shifter and brake reversed.
  9. i have some 205 65 r15. about 25.5 inches i think. nice all season tread, she just likes to spin on on ramps in rwd.
  10. id rather have pugs, as those wheels from aa dont stick out far enough. they stick out less than stock wheels!_! 6 lug it.
  11. i have ran both for extended periods of time. probably 10k miles in rear wheel drive, on two different hatchbacks. i am pretty sure more power gets to the ground while runing in fwd mode. the car is faster. not sure why but i guess its because you dont have to rotate that big drive shaft. the wheels hop around alot more, and the traction is worse (on dry pavement) in fwd mode. but rear wheel drive is hell even in rain... snow is impossible. the car goes down the highway better in rwd tho, i think the cvs make the front end do wierd stuff at high speeds. im not sure which one i like better, but for the winter, im gonna leave it in fwd/4x4, since id need about 8 sandbags in the back to run rwd in the snow.
  12. an xt6 in good condition is some fun stuff. they just weigh so much. if you arent planing on turning up the boost on the rx, then go for the er27. but if you want phat peak hp, go with the rx, and crank the boost. just rememember: an er27 making 150 hp will last years longer than an ea82 runing 150 hp get an rx and stuff an er27 into it. then its fun
  13. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29209&highlight=dont+run+frams yar, fram sucks, first hand experience, and about 5 pages to read through there... fram is for suckers. and i swear my ea82 started ticking when i bought a 5 dollar gall on of oil from walmart "supertech" oof
  14. when miles does it, its criminal. when mcbrat does it, its an experiment... lol i realy had no idea they would sieze like that. makes me paranoid now. just one more thing to be scared on my subaru. i always imagine a wheel flying off at 80, or flames out the hood.
  15. so i was thinkin, since morganm has a stock samurai now, i gott a be able to keep up with him. what if i welded up some brackets to bolt leafe springs on to my unibody, then mounted the independent suspension under that? you could do it in the front and rear, and get tons of travel. if you take the 6-10 inches that the leaf springs would have, then added the 3-4 inches that the subaru has, that makes for alot of flex!_! of course id need the divorced xfercase, and some telescopic drive shafts, since my diff would not be in the same spot all the time, like stock... hopefully i can post some pics tomorrow. woot!
  16. damn, there was weeks of warning noises right? you expected it to happen eventualy right? thats scary stuff.
  17. alignment wont help the rear. put a spare tire on the rear. hit it with a sledge hammer untill its straight. ive had to do this on my offroad hatch, and my rustyashell hatch.
  18. 100 with stock or smaller than stock tires.
  19. every manual i have ever seen says 5-7k miles, unless its sever conditions, then they say 3k. the oil change companies got everyone thinking 3k is normal, so then you hear people changing at 2k thinking its better. i say 5k unless you beat on it. dead of winter is severe, so 3k is the least amount of time i would ever run oil. mobile1 is worth screwing with. i picked up 1-2mpg on the highway by doing nothing else.
  20. the only reason i wear a seatbelt when offroading is to keep my rump roast in the seat. keep my head off of the roof, and windshield. when your wheelin a subaru, with about 3 inches of travel, you need all the help you can get, when you bounce off a big rock.. looks clean, do it:banana:
  21. yes, anti diesel solenoid is hooked up. would timing make a difference? when you turn off your ignition, the power to the coil is cut, so timing shouldnt matter, as far as i can tell.
  22. stock ea81, stock exhaust, stock aircleaner, all that. the only difference is the carb has been de-emissionized. most of the vac lines were taken off, except for vac advance, and a couple other ones. i still have the idle circiut shutoff valve hooked up. the damn thing will run for up to 15 seconds after i shut it down. if i use 87 it does it for the longest. if i use 91 or 92 it pretty much stops. i've ran two or three cans of seafoam through the thing, and i drive with my foot on the floor, so i doubt theres any carbon doing this in the combustion chamber. the wierd thing is it just started doin it about 2 months after runing perfectly fine. what else causes this?
  23. the tie down loops in the rear are as solid mount as you get. id put a nice bumper on, but still use the factory tie downs for pulling people out. one thing to think about with the ea81s. the bumper mounting bolts arent that big. if you want super duper pulling power with the bumper, i would drill out the stock bolt holes, and replace them with 1/2 inch bolts. the stock ones are about 10mms i think. ea82s are bigger. i did a 3 foot slack, full throttle jerk on morganms wagon, with a chain. he didnt move, damn near spun me in a half circle. but the tie down held.
