88 gl dies, restarts, dies, etc.
archemitis replied to aa8jz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, in my newest runing efi vehicle, yesterday, when the fuel pump conections got loose, the tach started doin funny stuff, sputtering a little, all the same stuff, thought it would die. and it does the same thing if the wires on the coil are loose. sounds like a loose connection or broken/half broken wire. good luck -
not that anyone cares but...

im putting a giant cone filter on this morning, and that should help to, i'll try and snap some pics. what do these things weigh? mine is guted in the rear, but i made up for the lost weight with xt6 seats and the extra 14 lb motor. i'll have to drive it to a scale to get a half accurate weight, i think truck scales are accurate with in 20 lbs. -

ya, i guess it depends on where you look, i was thinking 75 hp on the ea81 and around 96+? on my new mpfi, with a little internal work, and intake and exh and all. -
i just hit 100 miles with my new(new to me) multi point efi ea82 in my 86 ea81 hatch. my computer is sitting in the passenger seat, and no o2 sensor yet, but oh what a difference 25 hp makes! cant wait to turbo it.

mpfi conversion, what not to do
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so i changed the title, i found out exaclty what was wrong with the system i was trying to use. the carb pump couldnt keep up for one reason or another, and i kept runing out of fuel, while trying to start it, not even runing. so i stuck the fuel pump back where the stock pump goes, and it works good now, 80-90 lbs runing through stock hard fuel lines, and i replaced the rubber lines with efi ones. it realy wasnt any harder than puting it under the car, so dont do what i did =] -

86 hatchback, fuel pump?
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
actualy... i was realy asking for my mpfi swap, i just went out and put my high pressure fuel pump on that little shelf, and ran high pressure line where the rubber was. now im gettin good solid pressure with no air. that clamp idea, would have been great, since the pressure of 10 gallons of fuel, pushes it out reel fast. thanks -
ya, jb weld didnt work for me, since i tried that, and it just broke up, and disappeared after 20k miles =]. then is started acting like a head gasket. i just put a cap on that hose, and filled the tube with silicone,. mine sucked alot too, barely fit, wrong hardware, holes twice the size of the bolts that had to be used. and its two pieces, thats 3 gaskets, and 6 gasket surfaces, instead of the stock 1 and 2. i ended up making one out of one piece of 3/4 inch aluminum, on a brigeport, but have yet to use it. wish i had as good a luck with jb weld as everybody else
