  1. straight aftermarket is what you need, with a maP sensor, and a GM coil pack for 4 cylinders. and a megasquirt system. the ej systems, at least theones i know about, dont have any adjustment of the timing. look into the isuzu impulse rs, it used the gm map and the coil pack, along with a cas, and it made 160 hp out of a 1.6, on 5-6 lbs. reel good computer, that can adjust to injectors or anything, up to around 16 lbs. but, it all seems kinda useless, you might as well just stick the whole ej22 in there, there is nothing that will bolt up, at all.
  2. who all is runing a cb? i am, i just gotta find a big rump roast whip for it.
  3. that smaller line, is only on the older cars. on the newer ea82s like the loyale, they switched to a t that is the same diameter, on all 3 hose barbs. it took care of morganms problem of puking oil around clover leafs. mine is Ted to a hose with a filter on it. pvc vavle is plugged, because its a vac leak. and... smoking and pressure out of the oil cap is either pvc screwed up, or your rings are shot to hell. thats called blow by. and... this is not a performance mod, the stuff you are taking off, is inactive, when you are flooring it. the only thing you are doing is keeping your carb cleaner, and making it so you can see your heads.
  4. ya, i saw that, right after i saw one sitting on my co workers chevy that had over 50 k on the accel coil, that was chrome anybody can have bad luck with anything.
  5. so, i was having trouble with my ea82, in my hatch, and couldnt quite figure it out. it was running real crappy at higher rpm, but good down low. so i figured it was my coil(new chrome accel). i pulled the coil wire completely off, and this accel coil is so powerfull, it jumped a spark out of the high tower insulator part, and all the way back to my coil mount. like 4 inches of hot blue spark. so i figured the coil is ok. i took off the disty cap, and i had no plunger, or spring in the top of the cap, so this coil was jumping an air gap more than 5 times the gap of a spark plug, before it even got to the plug. in short, crappy disty caps(and absentmindedness) suck! but accel coils rule!
  6. you dont have to cut the center out, you just stick it on a big rump roast vise and hammer away till the thing starts to come apart. thats what i have done on a brat, and a toyota pickup. the yota had no clips at all.
  7. i bet you its out of the same barrel i would even trust walmarts synthetic brand.
  8. i usualy break the bolts off, because they are siezed in the head, when taking intakes off at the junkyard. but when im at home, i use a bernsomatic torch, or any propane torch, to heat them up, before trying to turn them out. havent had one break that way.
  9. the spfi is becoming too rare to risc? i cant throw a cv at a junkyard and not hit a spfi subaru. stopleak works great alot of the time, and i have used it in about 10 cars, and never had any radiator plugging problems. thats an old wives tale, from the 70s.
  10. ford festiva heater core duct taped to blower motor, with hoses rerouted, of course. i'll post a pic tomorrow, got me through the last few bouts of below 0 weather.
  11. i had an 82 with the third eye, dual range ea81. it was faster than any of my ea82 cars. but it rusted out where skip said, and the rear suspension finaly came through the bed(minnesota). and even with the 4 speed, it would go 80+ for the 900 mile trip to texas.
  12. if you have the flapper style, earlier one85-87? there is a great diagram on that thread i referenced you to on the byb.
  13. anti diesel solenoid thingy? if you take the needle out, you will just eleminate it. do you have a bad one? if so, it wont realy idle below 2-2500 rpms. junkyard
  14. i thought the same at first. once you clamp it on, it just pops off the top. i took a file and put some grip points all around the spigot parf of the carb, so bacicaly theres a lttle trench runing around the carb, for the rubber to bite into. also, i think the spfi is different sized. the mpfi has a rubber hose that connects it to the carb, and i cut that down about a half inch so my hood would close. this is all in an ea81 hatch, so that might be why i had the hood clelarance issues. and maybe the hood holds it on kinda, but it does take alot of force to hold that thing on there. you can hear the intake from the cab real well now.
  15. also, you can hack off the air suction valve pipes, and weld them up, along with your egr stuff. my pvc valve is plugged, and the hoses from the valve cover go to a remote filter. and you can take the intake manifold off and flip it over, to take all of the hard lines off, because you wont need any of them. lots more sanitary, than stock, cept for all my zip ties =]
  16. a filter from force products. they make those forward sweeping intakes for harleys and choppers, and i had a spare one off of my bike. its a k&n cone, knock off. it fits in the inside of the mpfi tube, i was gonna get a bigger cone, but im gonna ditch this motor saturday.
  17. thats a damn good idea too. but i was going for on the ground, low. the console is painted black, if you look close you can see brown through a scratch, i think. its black vinyl paint, duplicolor makes it, not too tough, but i have a thin coat on right now.
  18. just plug it all, except for the brake booster, and vac advance on the carb, and the in cab heater controlls.
  19. well, checking my post over there, i noticed yours. i would suggest forgetting about swaping the whole harness, headlights, and all that. but maybe use the engine harness, and the center part, under the dash, with the fuse block. then you can use the same fuses and relays as stock. i only have the engine harness, and i will have less un used wires, but a little more soldering.
  20. http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=conversions;action=display;num=1070470133 those guys are the best help, when i ask this question a hundred times i never get any response. i think all the guys that have actualy done it, dont hang out here anymore. im going to try it agiain this weekend. hopefully i will get to post how i got it running, on monday. as far as i can tell, you shouldnt reely have to touch your harness.
  21. thats some farm truck action! wonder how the unibody liked that? did it look crashed?
