no claim to masterdom here, but... every motor i get with hydrolic lifters, ends up ticking on me. im not sure how it goes, but i think they got hydrolics after 84?(sorry if im wrong)or during, and they also got bigger valves around this point. so i think usually solid lifters means you prolly got smaller valves? and the hydro motors, mostly had the bigger valves. the hydros adjust them selves, so you never have to adjust valves. i want a solid lifter motor with the bigger valves and a brat cam.

Rumors of Huge Soobie meet..
archemitis replied to Syrinx's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
i would love a subaru meet closer than 2k miles away. -
its a 92 legacy turbo wagon. i think its a 4eat, im new to this newer generation stuff, its an auto 4speed. theres no reverse till the tranny actually gets warm, then it will go in and work. could this be a linkage issue? its only got 122k on it. and a guy is about to give it to me because he thinks the tranny is fried.

the carb mounting part is smaller on the ea81 for sure. so that alone is better, also looking at mine, the ea82 is larger than the ea81. so i would say yes. it will flow better but you gotta run the ea82 carb too.

how do you define an addiction?
archemitis replied to elcaminokurt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
an addiction means you gotta have it every day! my boss made me drive a dodge pickup around, to try and sell it for him. not driving a subaru feels wierd. and wastefull -

MAN, i have bought every ea81 subaru i have seen parked. and if i see them going down the street i try and follow them and ask if its for sale. perty rare in minnesota, and im in a big city. -
this is a pretty funny topic. the silicone is what im taliking about. it was orange stuff from napa. split down the middle as i sliped it on a nipple, then i cut the end off and tried again. dunno what happened. maybe it was a bad batch, or it was cured too fast or someting
-
ug, on that, the only hose i have ever split in cold weather is silicone. i know its supposed to be bad a$$ and all that, but i had the vac hose split wide open in 0 degreee weather, as i slid it on the vac advance on my disty.

hey slacker partsman. get back to work and reading those napa books. NOTICE skip says always use distilled h20 thats because its got no minerals and chemicals like tap water. only minerals will hurt your cooling system, not water.
-
i gotta tell napa my hatchbacks are brats, just so i can get the right parts, so i dont put much stock in what napa says. something tells me fuel line, especially efi fuel line, would stand up to heat and 14lbs. just saying, its not that complicated, as long as its black it will last at least 2 years. nothing against partsguy, just napa.

4lo is totaly different in an rx i say 2 hi. wheels will spin faster which gives faster donuts, and you'll break less stuff in hi

EA82 Engine at school

build a bad rump roast gocart. then drive it to freedom! -
oh man, better listen to napa for everything. anything will work. prolly even clear fishtank line, stretched over it with hose clamps.

Carter-Webber rebuild kits....
archemitis replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not sure on rebuild kits, i would look for one with lower mileage, or a hitachi! they rule! have you tried choking the hell out of it with our hand over the carb opening? rev it up to like 2 grand and gradually put your hand over the opening. it will die a few times, till you figure it out, but you want to get it to rev to about 3 grand with your hand almost completely choking off the air flow. it creates massive vaccum on yourjets, and will suck out any crap clogging them up, or clog them more. guess its a toss up. but it made mine work a little better. -
Cluch install Q (about axles)
archemitis replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you dont need no stinkin picker, this is a subaru, take off the fans and the radiator, and you can just slide the motor forward, all you reely need is a floor jack and a stand, and a buddy my cousin did the brat without taking tranny out all the way, and left the axles in. just slid the tranny back half a foot, and left it hangin on the cross member. worked pretty good. -
EA81 Performance Mods--Best Bang for the Buck?
archemitis replied to Dante's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i didnt see this mentioned. brat cams are supposed to be better low end torque, and i know my brat pulled a hlell of alot harder than my 2x hatch. and on the exhaust thing. you can use an ea82 manifold, and they dont have the provisions for the air suction valves. and the header pipes go up further than the ea81s, so you would have to ditch the little spacers for the air suction valves. then your ea81 engine compartment would be cleaner. ea82 is pleanty bigger, and the welds around the flanges arent so intrusive to flow. and make sure you use an ea82 intake manifold, bigger runners(slightly) and, the weber thing, i agree, dont buy the kit, unless you are lazy:D i have had the tall air filter on both my ea81s and ea82s and the hood clears on both of them. it may touch, the hood, but it doesnt smash the filter. -
any one see the 360 on ebay!!!
archemitis replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
its pretty funny how they are always in pawn shops. like some dude stole it from his grandma, and traded it weight for weight for some subs, and an amp. -
over heating problem,.....
archemitis replied to konrad/soo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if your stock fan is working, it wont come on till your dangerously close to the red(in my opinion past half is close). and if you are off road, you are prolly going slow sometimes. once it gets hot, its harder to cool down. i would leave that mechanical fan off, and just wire your fan to a switch. either have it on whenever the engine is runing, or keep an eye on the guage, and regulate it yourself, at low speeds. works great, unless somebody other than you drives the car. -
i think it would be just as much work to make it work in the loyale as the brat. if the loyale dies, throw that brat motor in there, and use the mpfi in the brat.

except there is no diff between the na and turbo computers, just a wire you ground or power i for get
