half a$$ed heater core replacement

i did gut the car for weight, maybe i'll put one of my spare ej radiators behind the seats with the dual fans! thats the thing moosens. i always put alot of work into something, and just when i think im done, bam! more nightmare work. goes real fast but it sure is cold! just so you get an idea of all the crap i have already done 1. installed mpfi ea82 2. ran fuel injection harness 3. discovered i cant make efi work doh! 4. take out motor, put in spfi block with weber 5. weber float sticks fills motor with fuel 6. do another oil change, and put on hitachi 7. start with hitachi, get wet feet 8. pulled back into garage and scuffed the door DOH! i just wanna drive it! has anyone ever just found the hoses broke? or the heater valve thing? does the heater core get a hole in it? or do the welds break or something? the last time i did a heater core it was in a s-10 and i just cut a hole in the firewall with a cutoff wheel, and pulled it out through the engine bay. im sure i'll do SOMETHING sunday. -
what if i ran one normal car sized battery, linked up to a smaller motorcycle gel battery. i can get them easy, and cheap. they have about 250 cca on average. if they are both 12 volt, and i hooked them together, wouldnt it be like having a bigger battery? or would the smaller one hinder the bigger one?

HELP! Engine cuts out/sputters on corners
archemitis replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
and if you get a hitachi going good again, it could be alot less headaches. my weber was not just a bolt on and go thing. i never got it working right, and now have a de-emissioned hicachi, thats working great. a hitachi off a lower mileage engine might be a great option too. -
i just put alot of work into this hatch, and the first time i got it up to temp, the floorboard filled up with green stuff. im not taking out the dash. i was thinking i could just stick some small heater core in front of the blower motor, and build a box around it, and then i could blow hot air through my crappy heater core. its about to get down to 0 and below for the next few days, so im gonna get inventive. i'll take pics.

racing seats for the ea81 hatch?
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if i was going to use stock seats, i would use my xt6 seats. they are so nice compared to ea81 seats, but they weigh so much, and will require some welding for me to fit them in. i sat in one of those dodge neon srt4 turbos, and they have racing seats from the factory. not fullon riced out ones, but very nice, thats what got me thinking. AXE seats are cheap as hell. -
for the few of you that have them, how are they for comfort? do they weigh less than the stock ones? are they adjustable? what kind? im looking at all the ones at the top page of ebay, and 200-3 and you can get 2 nice ones, shipped.

i had a 9.5:1 compression isuzu turbo with 10lbs, and it didnt blow up from pre ignition. 7.7 is way too low, unless you have a hole in your turbo the size of your fist. i think the mitsubishis ran more than 7.7 but 8.5 should be great for a stock sized turbo, and stock boost. rage it!
-
ALSO! you can stick a t-birt turbo on there. they came with 2or3 different ones. the biggest one is the one you want, i think its even an upgrade for the lecacies. the t-birds were something like 3.0s i think? so its bigger. you just pull the exhaust housing off and swap them. there might be a tiny bit of plumbing differences, butnow is a time for an intercooler anyway. if you have a bigger turbo, and boost the same amount of lbs you will make more hp. more reliable, cooler boost too. and it will spool up the same, because it uses the same exhaust housing.

you just need to measure that belt and get one at napa or anywhere you can make the parts guys do what you say. mine works with just an alternator and water pump. ditch that carbon canister. theres alot of weight there. all the skid plates should go. if it has any. did you get rid of the ac stuff in the cab too?

desperate no fire on drivers side
archemitis replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks for the help guys. i did forget something. i forgot that my weber float stuck, and filled my lower end with gasoline. that made the engine hard to start, and only ran on one side. and when i say filled, i mean like twice the fluid that should be in the crank case. guess its all clean in there now! thats the working theory anyway. -
Oil In the Air Cleaner Housing
archemitis replied to 4FOR4's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
YAH, whenever i highass my oil cap, and forget to put it back on, my carb model does that reel bad. -
yah, but chevy turned their v8s into diesels, and they worked. i didnt say they wroked good, but they worked. several companies have converted their casoline engines to diesel. especially in the 80s.

something tells me a whole lot of compression and some 80s vw parts and a subaru diesel would be pretty easy. ea81 all the way.
