  1. I found this lil gem, i patted it , gave it a few fries, and it followed me home!! Lol
  2. Do some reading. EA82T's tend to go poof, even in stock trim. If you wanna build a performance car, from an XT, a swap is in order. Visit us over at www.subaruxt.com for more info than you can digest on the wonder wedge!
  3. In my work as a robotics technician, I deal with DeviceNet technology. This allows a robot cell to control multiple robots, and hundreds of sensors with one (admittedly bulky) PLC (programmable logic controller) I mention this only as ready made alternative, which uses simple cabling, and off the shelf components for most if not all sensors youd need on an engine. Ladder logic programming is easily understood by novices as well.
  4. Premium gas at $3.75...$80/wk for a 28mi one way drive to work $367/yr for insurance $46/yr registration All in all my XT6 is pretty cheap to own, and operate.
  5. I'll check the ground asap. Yes a restart fixes it. (is the trans powered by microsoft? lol) Level is spot on No foam Pan isnt dented No cel on Power light flashes after a reboot No known critters in the car
  6. Every once in awhile, my trusty XT6 pitches a subie fit. When i start it, the trans defaults to "limp home" mode. (center diff locked, trans in 3rd) There is no power light on the dash, or any other telltale. Im thinking its a heat related issue, because it started this last summer, then didnt do it all winter. Now that its getting hot out, its getting worse. My questions are: Has anyone else had this problem with thier early 4eat, and am I gonna have to replace my TCU before it strands me.
  7. Ingredients for an all subie 5spd rwd setup: Impreza 5spd, welder, disassembled front axles. Open up the trans, weld the center diff solid. Take the outer axle stubs, and install into the knuckles, rinse repeat with the inners. Be prepared for off throttle understeer, and snap oversteer on throttle. I converted the 2nd 4eat to rwd on my svx. It didnt handle scary, or funky. But it did transition to oversteer in a hurry, with little notice.
  8. My 2cents is on the ignitor. I had an xt do that to me. I nearly pulled my hair out trying to figure that out. I also had one get dirt inside the distributor. Being an optical doo-dad the lenes can get dirty. Some contact cleaner, and a soft cloth made things clear again. In both cases, the car had spark, and checked good with a timing light.
  9. Call me crazy, but i've had good luck using masonry bits on hardened bolts. Go slow, and use just enough pressure to make chips. Yes, masonry bits for drilling concrete lol
  10. Turbo hood goodness.... I'm working on using the scoop for cold air induction. The rest of the hood is under primer, awaiting a decent day to paint it Step 1 in my plans for total world domination. MUAH HA HA HA! Nah, just the driveaway lmao
  11. I'd be wary of a worm clamp on an axle. I'd think you'd end up with balance issues that would drastically shorten the live of the CV's
  12. To get a zip tie REALLY tight, grab the small end with some needle nose pliers. Roll it around them, until you think its gonna break. It takes some practice to find the breaking point, but without buying a zip tie tool (yes, they make those lol) its about as tight as youre gonna get it with one person.
  13. An old mechanics trick for holding a motor still... Get a length of nylon rope that just fits thru the spark plug hole. Make sure the cylinder you choose is coming up on the compression stroke. Hold your thumb over it, and you will feel it build pressure. Feed rope in until you cant, or until yu have a few inches left sticking out. For god's sake, dont feed it all in, or you'll be fishing it out lol
  14. We've noticed our BRAT has been getting bad mileage (like low 20's). We also noticed a strong fuel smell. We checked for obvious leaks, its not losing it. It's definately running mega-rich. We dont believe it timing related, as it runs very strong, starts, dies, and idles nearly perfect. It has a fresh tuneup, and filters in it also. What steps can we take, other than changing the stock carb?
  15. With a little know-how, and a few wrenches, you can do timing belts along side the road in a few minutes. EA82's are that simple.
  16. Just take him down a dirt road, show him what loyale taillights look like lol I have a buddy at work with a built honda crx. He wants to run me so bad. I told him we would go 60ft in the dry, or 1/4mi, in the rain lol. The difference is, him, and i have a good natured rivalry, and I have a MUCH more rare car (XT6) I know he would smoke me in the dry. I really dont care, i know I'll be driving my subie, long after he has rebuilt, and destroyed his honda lol
  17. Yeah zukiru, thoughts like that are what inspired me. The er27 has the same bore as the ea82, at higher compression.
  18. I've seen that before lol. It would be old school with a blower thru the hood lol
  19. I want a vintage feel on this build. I have a turbo hood, and plans for true cold air induction. I'm also hunting for an RX bodykit, and vintage Recaros. For wheels, I'm hoping to find some vintage BBS, or Gotti style wheels. I have a spare er27, that I plan on warming up with your basic hot-rodding techniques. You know, cams, headers, a nice port/polish job, and shaved heads for about 11:1 compression. I'll back that up with a 5spd/diff lock trans, and lsd I have. I have the concept in mind, i just have to get it in focus.
  20. I dont think much of that was available in 1988 lol. Besides, im keeping the er27. I like the reliability of a n/a subie 6 Of course that doesnt mean i wont "warm it up a bit" hehehe
  21. Ya know, STi opened its doors in 1988. What if its first road car had been an XT6? What would they have done with FHI's flagship coupe? Those are the questions I intend to answer with my beloved silver XT6, I call Audrey (as in Hepburn). I have quite a bit of work ahead of me, but im starting with an absurdly clean car. She has a few dents from being a target for non-drivers, but nothing too horrible. That said, not one dent was recieved while she was moving lol. This is her, as she is at this moment

  23. If i were doing the lower control arm mod, id probably make some plates, to weld to the xmember. I'm kinda strange in that i would rather add weight, and overbuild things on the suspension
