  1. Car: '97 Legacy LSi Engine/trans: EJ25/4EAT Mileage: 136,000 Symptoms: When in park, idling, the temp guage pegs out within 30 sec. It does NOT do it in drive. (IE at a red light) If I shut the engine down, and let it sit for a minute or two the guage returns to normal. (1/2 guage scale) Coolant level is normal, overflow bottle is clean inside. When driving, the car acts totally normal. I do have a CEL for a knock sensor. Possibilities?: Could my guage sending unit be bad, or could a wire be shorted somewhere? Thanks in advance.
  2. A lot of owners have had luck by just rapping on the ABS relay with a screwdriver handle, or smacking it with thier hand. Not a permanent fix, but it'll get you through until you can find a new relay.
  3. I do all my own work, so I can't really say what it'd cost at a shop. I'd say 2-3 hours labor, and maybe $40 for the part. I'm sure one of the other people here can chime in to give you better estimates on cost.
  4. IF the boot is torn, and you can afford the cost, and downtime. It's not a bad idea to fix it now. If you can't afford to do it right now, it will go a fairly long time with a tear. Just be aware, that eventually, you will have to replace this boot. With it torn, there is dust, and dirt getting inside it. This dust will wear on the seals, eventually causing a power steering leak. This can take months, or years to get that far though. Hope this eases your mind.
  5. Actually my rear wheels are on forwards I have to swap the fronts back soon, before it rains.
  6. This may be out of place in the older gen section, but my new to me '96 SVX has 242k/mi on it's original engine & trans.
  7. It's home. I called about glas & got a 350+tax quote. Pics of my new Subie are forthcoming.
  8. They multiply! I'm going tomorrow to pick up my new (to me) SVX. It's a brilliant red '96 LSi. LOTS of miles on this car, and it's original engine/trans (200,000+). It's got a few issues, blown airbags, broken windshield, faded paint, but nothing keeping it from being a daily for me. I love SVXi. I've lusted after them since they were introduced in '92. I'll post pics as soon as I get it home.
  9. Somehow subies just look SOOOOOO natural in the snow!
  10. '97 Legacy LSi Wagon '95 Olds Cutlass '74 Ford Pinto Soon to be a '96 SVX LSi in the driveway:clap: YAY ME! *schoolgirl giggles*
  11. Nipper is right, that drag increases to the cube of velocity. That drag can be mechanical, rotational, & aerodynamic. It's all mathematics, I don't know the formulas, but you can get a loose top speed estimate based on aero, gear ratio, & HP. Mind you this will be a LOOSE estimate.
  12. Thanks for the correction, that's why I'm here, to learn. I know that there's a "reed switch" inside the strut that tells it where it's at. If the strut's off a car with a different pre-set ride height, that'd definately be a problem.
  13. Sounds like the strut is flat, and the opposite side is supporting it. It could be the strut, or the solenoid valve. The self leveling setup wil do it's best to compensate for a bad strut. Ask around in the old gen section. The XT, and XT6 owners will have more clues for you
  14. Automotive design is a long process. The final production sketches for the '08 Impreza were finished probably 4 years ago. Guess what was the big seller then? The Mazda Protege 5. Designers are younger now than ever before, thus they haven't been given time to develop thier own style. That means they're dependent on outside influences. Just my 2cents
  15. Excellent writeup! This can be used on a variety of cars, not just Subies. The vast majority of TPS are 4-wire potentiometers. I've never seen the 2-contact TPS, but it sounds like a PITA to deal with.
  16. Track time is just SOOOOO much fun! Add to that, there's no substitute for "seat time" to improve your at the limit skills.
  17. I learned this the hard way myself Turbone. You can run rich all day, but lean only once.
  18. Most speedos are "optimistic" EA series Subies are definately in that category. If you have the digidash it's capable of displaying 199mph, the XT digidash is capable of displaying 299mph. Talk about optimistic! I doubt any EA series car has ever seen 200mph, much less 300mph. Well outside of a dedicated race car anyway. I disagree, speed rated tires are rated for SUSTAINED speeds at thier rating. If they come apart at or below thier rating & have never exceeded it, it's a manufaturer's defect. That said, I'd buy tires that are speed rated well beyond my car's abilities.
  19. I doubt a N/A Loyale could get 130mph. My N/A 3AT 86 XT coupe could only manage 99mph. Xt's are a little lighter & a LOT more aerodynamic. This was a car with 65,000mi on it.
  20. 14"s clear the diameter of my 97 LSi front brake rotors, but depending on the source of the wheels they may not clear the width. 14" Chrysler steelies will fit the back, but not the front.
  21. Not being a GM fan, when a buddy of mine bought a new Cobalt LS & took me for a ride in it, I was suprised at the quality of the piece. It's smooth, quiet, and suprisingly solid feeling. Will that solidity last the term of the payments is yet to be seen though.
