Haven't updated this in a while. So before it snowed (December) I was able to take the coupe out for a little ride, front end has some noise, I thought it would have went away with the new bearings, Axle and non stripped Hub plate, but the noise still persists. Didn't have time to really dig into it before I parked it for the winter, but will need to figure this out (It could still be many things) So far, I have secured a rust free Fuel tank for it, I believe it is a 4WD tank from a Brat, so at least I will still have the option of swapping the car to 4WD at some point. I also purchased the window weather stripping for a '68-'69 Camero/Firebird just to see if I can make them work for the coupe, its a long shot and probably a waste of $45 lol. Right now the car is snowed in and there isn't any getting it out till spring.

Yeah, its alot of money for what I'd use it for. I'm not gonna drill out all the spot welds and peel away layers for the entire rear side of the car lol. I personally don't even know what I'm going to do with the Coupe. I dunno if I have another restoration in me, I probably should have just bought another '95 Legacy beater

I was told he'll keep the SPFI stuff for swapping it onto an EA81. If I had an extra Manifold laying around I would ship it to you asap. Only thing I had is a messed up manifold for an EA81.

Figured I should update the thread with some good news! Thanks to Turbosubarubrat I will be getting rust free doors and hatch gate for the wagon, along with the rear quarter/roll pan/crash box so I can cut out what I need to rebuild what has rotted away on mine. I wanna give him a big thanks for going these many extra miles to help out my build! Photos of the parts car which all this came from. '88 DL with SPFI. All the parts loaded up and ready to find its way to Wisconsin! Including the Fuel tank for the Coupe! Rear crash box area. 2015 should be the year of the Safariwagon, With all these parts I should be able to get all the rust gone, and never again will this car go out in the Salt. I still need to decide on a color to paint it. The Door jams will all be matt black Truck bed liner just to make it simple. I'm thinking the Rocker skin will also be matt black along with the new Wheels. Now I have to decide if the car is gonna stay some type of dark red or should I go with a more Savanna schemed color?

Yep, '83 Coupe. The rear part of the rocker should be interesting since there really isn't any body line (Just in front of the rear wheel) Rear wheel arches are another issue. At least there isn't any rust around the front or rear window seats.
-
Its really no problem. I'm not asking anyone to go out and start sending me all kinds a stuff. I was just making a point of what I have been experiencing as of late. Although, most of the people I tried getting parts from where folks I've never heard of and basically just joined the board not long after posting their sale thread. I still have major respect to everyone who has helped me get to this point, and I still remember who has done what lol. Some of these "New" members are kinda shady. No worries on the fuel tank, I figured you would have just sold it to a local person which is what I have gotten used to. Either way, I'm in no hurry, I'm not gonna pressure people and such Hahaha. No body has gotten burned, so we're all good! Jeff: If you do happen to know of some rust free rockers for something 2 door (Brat/Coupe/Hatch) that would be awesome. The coupe has so much rust it really isn't funny. It is worse than the Skiwagon (I know!) Anyway, I will compensate you the best I can. I try to do whatever I can for folks who have helped me As for the Fuel tank, no biggie. Whenever you get around to getting it boxed up is fine with me. I will have $100+ waiting for you. Anyway, the Coupe is on ice (Literally) this spring/summer, I must get this wagon finished up 100% at least Welding wise. I need to get the interior back in and have the car buttoned up. Once this is done, I will need to source 4 nice doors, two rear with nice glass and two front (Glass doesn't matter, I can swap mine in) I also need to get a new rear gate when possible. Then I can paint the car.

Lol. I wasn't putting the blame on you. It was more of trying to get that Wes dude who was parting out that GL to work with me and hold the Rockers and Tank till someone could pick them up, that was the biggest headache of it all. Now it seems that no matter how much money I offer people, they just don't want to ship. Everyone wants local pickup. I offered a dude $250+ shipping for a set of rear discs and I never got word back. Like really? I offered dude $100+ shipping for a $20 fuel tank but it was sold for $20 for a local pickup. Make any sense?

Looks like its a Multilink setup?

Mock up in solid works, Subaru R160 Locker
TheLoyale replied to Prwa101's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Agreed. Axles (More so Diff stubs) and gears are the weak point in any EA trans. EJs weren't much more durable. LSD in the front could also still be hard to drive from all the FWD LSD threads I've read on track/racing boards. -
Was gonna take the car out for its first time last weekend, go to put in gear and *POP!* Front driver brake line went, put a netal line in today, not I'm waiting on the two rubber lines and a Banjo bolt. Rust, makes life a dandy.

Too small and too typical.

Now stocking U.S Wheel Stealth Crawler 15x7 Matt black wheels! They are 6x139 with 4.25" backspacing and 7mm offset. Now to redrill my hubs and get these wrapped with 235s!

This isn't a half bad idea, infact, I've seen someone stick a 5.7 350 in a first gen Legacy with rear wheel drive. It seemed to work out and was drivable. I have also seen someone stick a 3.8 L36 (GM) into an EA82 body. The motor sat up too high from the photos, but it was also made into a RWD vehicle. Only thing I would say is, remember, you are adding a 450lbs motor vs a 250lbs motor, I'm not sure how well it will corner if you are thinking "Track car" but then again, their have been A LOT of front heavy vehicles that have won Le Mans and 1000 Lakes! I support your idea, as this amount of work really hasn't been put into a Subaru on here. Swapping in another Flat-4 or possibly Flat-6 has been done, V8 swaps, eh, never (At least on here) Good luck and I will be watching!

My '92 Landcruiser: Safariwagon-II
TheLoyale replied to TheLoyale's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Oh! Thats a good piece of advice. I didn't know you could still use the A440F with the 4BT. I will actually have to find a swap writeup on ih8mud and see what the details are, I was told the 4BT is pretty much mechanical, so there really isn't any wiring harness to deal with. Anyway, yeah the MPG is always fun when standing at the pump, and since I need to run premium to keep it from pinging so much, it sometimes get spendy. I took the Loyale to the gas station a couple days ago, and $17 filled it, with premium. Our Low grade 87 is under $3 right now, so Premium is under $4! -
Just finishing up my headlights. Still need to purchase new High-Beam lamps but the rest is complete and all bolted together with Stainless. I would also like to find new adjusting springs, I cleaned up and repainted the old ones, but I would like to find new, possibly stainless Extension springs. Thanks again to Bratman for sending me non rotted out headlight buckets. They cleaned up and repainted very nicely. I will be bolting the headlights back in tomorrow and then I will take the car for a little spin for the first time since I bought it! Hope non of these rotted Brake or gas lines give way just yet!

Yeah the Factory E-lockers are nice. Those only came as an option '93-97 FJ80s. 1991/92 did not have lockers as an option in America. But then again, the 3F-E was available as a motor in these over seas, most were Diesel or the 4.5 Turbo. America got the 4.5 Straight-6 (1FZ-FE) in '93-'97 but were prone for HG failure. The 3F-E seems to be a pretty solid bullet proof engine and is indeed better without all the Emissions gunk on it. The big thing people do is swap in the Cummins 4BT in place of either the 3F-E or 1FZ-FE. I'm told some GM transmission will need to be used with this conversion, but I wouldn't mind the 4BT in mine. More power and more torque. Again, back to Lockers. Yes I really want locking axles for mine. But it is pretty spendy to get locking axles unless you can buy a Locked truck on the cheap and rebuild the axles. The axle cases in the'91-'92 are actually a little different were the Pinion is and lockers can not be swapped into them. Non locked axles from a '93 can have locking diffs swapped in as the case is already designed for it. So thats my understanding on everything Lol -
1988 subaru turbo GL, EJ22 and 4" lift, plus 6lug swap build!
TheLoyale replied to Prwa101's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
This is a nice ongoing project! I'm egger to see what happens with the tranny hybrid idea. Oh yeah, you also get 10,000 Fuji points for having rear disc on there! -
Probably go with 29s. I measured my Bighorns (Which are at half life) and they came out to 25" so I think 29s (235s) will be able to fit without any more cutting, especially since the wheels I bought have 4.50" for backspacing, I've heard running wheels with less backspace will increase clearance issues, plus I don't want the car to look like its on a dolly haha. As for creaking, mine is pretty quiet inside, and should be even more quiet with all the sound deadening I'm adding. I also haven't done a lot of offroading with this rig yet, little bit hear and there, but nothing serious. I did take the Landcruiser on a serious offroad trip a few weeks ago, did really well with open diffs, 33x10.5" tires and locked T-case. At some point that truck is getting 35x12.5" with Factory E-locking diffs, then it will be unstoppable with 3x locked! I agree with welding up seams, I did that on the Skiwagon and plan to do that on this too. I scrapped most of that rubber seam sealer out and weld them closed. Yeah the Snorkel did get some attention, no one else had a Snorkel. One guy has a PVC snorkel on his Legacy GT, but you can't beat a Factory fit snorkel
-
That was unexpected. What years? This sounds like an intriguing idea non the less!

I took a quick measurement with the tires on, but from Drum to Drum (Outer side of drums) it was about 95-1/2" wide. This weekend I will try to get something more accurate and possibly a picture (We ALL like pictures!) If I remember, a Yota mini-truck axle can fit under the EA82 and will be pretty close to the same width (But then you need to figure out Leafs or possible Coil spring locations along with Link bars and track bar)
