  1. Sounds like the piston is just stuck from rust, does he drive this car everyday or has it sat in the yard for a while? Cause even with rust the piston should still be able to move a little (Hydraulics have a lot of pressure ya know) and even if the slider pins rusted and the caliper was stuck to them, the piston should push out enough to still hit the pads. Another idea is, does it have a hand brake? If so that would be manuel cable type (Not hydraulic) so thats one way to see if fluid is getting to the rear or not. If it grabs then you know somethings fishy with the brake lines. -Tom
  2. Very true, and there are also people who say the EA82 is a bad engine. In my experience, this EA82 has never let me down ever and I've never had to spend much to keep it going. Just do preventive maintenance and the engine will keep going. Same goes for the EA82T. Turbone is proof of this.
  3. The reason why so many hate the EA82T (Turbo) is due to the fact the heads will crack between the valves (Which is not a big deal) but they also tend to warp. Also the Cooling system on the EA82T is a little "ify" As for needing more HP for larger tires, non-sence! The 90hp 1781cc EA82 SPFI engine with a 5spd will turn over 30" tires easily, even my 3AT can turn over larger tires at interstate speeds and I can get up to about 85mph at around 4100rpm. So power is not the issue. If you are looking for a great wheeler, then the EA81 Hatch is the way to go in most ways, lighter and shorter - but wagons are just badass.
  4. Nice looking Jeepster! Been a while since I've seen one of those. As for a Good Subaru with a 5spd and D/R and being Fuel Injected, look for a 1987-89 GL wagon. Those will have the EA82 SPFI. As for a Turbo EA82, there are pros and cons to them and I would just stick with a EA82 Non-turbo. With the EA82 engine you will have two timing belts (One per cam) if you don't care about Fuel Injection look into getting a 1980-'84 GL wagon, that would have the EA81 engine (Internal timing gears, no belts) the EA81 is a more bulletproof engine and a lot of people like this engine more. Either engine are very reliable and get decent gas millage. And yes, any 80s Subaru with an Auto will not have D/R as they are push button 4WD. Hope some of this helps you and good hunting! -Tom
  5. I like that! It looks Factory or a damn nice replica. Hella's are a nice adition too!
  6. See your Lift Kits are making there way to the Mid-West! I heard Jon out in Watertown, WI bought a 2" kit from ya (Or will be)

    Cheers!

  7. You know I'll be there to help ya, we could get all that stuff done in one day. Whats going on with the Trans crossmember? Were you able to find a MT crossmember? Engine crossmember doesn't change. And there should be no reason anyone would hack it to work. I'm also down will going out there on the 14th. Keep me posted if you need help.
  8. The torque specs of any Subaru Castle Nut is about 150 ft.lbs (Just get a breaker bar and a 3ft bar for an extension and just stand on it) make sure the cotter pin hole lines up with one of the holes on the axle shaft end. And do use a cotter pin to keep the castle nut from undoing its self :)

  9. I guess you haven't road in my EA82 then, Its loud inside (I don't know an old Subaru that isn't) I enjoying hearing the vehicle, even on long trips at interstate speeds. funny thing is even if I have a headache the sound of the car kinda relaxes it. "Soothing sounds of the FLAT-4" I'm gonna make a sound therapy CD for the masses!
  10. At carpet machine would suck all that dust out (With water) try to suck up as much dust with the vac before you clean it with a carpet machine (It'll clog up other wise) Or just rip the carpeting out and paint the floor with hurculiner!
  11. Thanks man, your Forester looks nice and low (But in a good way!)
  12. Waukesha Co. Muddin' hy18 (Wales Area)
  13. Just pointing out that this thread has had well over 50,000 (56,019) views to date! More then any other thread on USMB. and is close to 1300 posts - Is that something or what! -Tom
  14. Tamiya Clear Red paint works! What ya'll think?
  15. Cool alright, yeah whenever works for me - I never have an planed things going on for the most part, unless I'm doing something for Fox. Yeah Rockauto has one from Beck/Arnley for about $303. How much did you pay may I ask? Cheers!
  16. You can get it on Rockauto last time I checked. Jon, I might convoy out to the yard with you instead of riding shotgun. I figure if Mike sees my car he'll know who I am. Other wise he might just be an rump roast. You gonna take hy18 to hy12? I know you can take 94 there, but it seems like a PITA cause then you'd have to come down and whatnot. Other way is pretty much a straight shot.
  17. This is gonna be my last post about this in this thread - so we don't clutter it up. But my thought on it is, lets say I got this AWD Legacy stuck in deep deep snow or on a slippery mud hill or something where the AWD just can't adjust to it. I would turn the switch on to get out/unstuck then turn it off. That would only be the times I'd use it. But really, its gonna take pretty much to get this thing stuck with 27" grabbers and the amount of torque the EJ puts out (145 ft.lbs) Thats just my take on it. Sorry for chatting up your thread Mark. -Tom
  18. I will totally check those threads out, and thanks for the info on the diff. Thanks! Gary, I can understand that thanks for clearing that up. Yeah I don't forget nor abuse things like that and would only use it in mud, snow etc. and then turn it off. Basically I look at this mod for being a helper off-road rather then relying on the AWD system its self. I will post in those threads if I have any more questions after reading them, thank you -Tom
  19. Alright sounds good, You will have to get an alignment afterwards since you can't go with (The clean threads on the tie-rod) since everything is gonna be new. New BJs are a must, I'm running MOOG in mine and wow what a difference. Either way any brand will feel good. Yeah I'll roll with you out to Cambridge this weekend.
  20. I did some searching and found that doing this might end up burning up the solenoid if used to much. So just let me get this straight, switching this solenoid would allow for 50/50 Torque split like the older 4WD systems onto an AWD trans which is like 35/65? Not trying to change the topic at hand (Sorry) -Tom
  21. Some more pictures of the GL. I took these Firday when I met Jon. Hope you don't mind if i post these..? -Tom
