  1. Eww, Valiant! Its like a Dart but worse! 3 on the tree is cool, We had a '78 Chevy C10 pickup with 3 on the tree (The young testing station guys didn't even know how to drive it, my dad had to for them LOL!) I like my 3AT for now, I'll prove to everyone on here that these Autos will make it to high milage!
  2. I have yet to drive standard - but I'm sure I could grasp fairly quickly.
  3. Yeah I just got this thing a few months ago, I got it at Harbor freight and its awesome! Was only $50 - and yes its corded. I love this thing (A must have) I used hand tools during the entire strut swap though, I only used this for the spring compressors. Thanks Mark.
  4. I understand where you coming from mentaly, In some ways thats true - but for most of these rigs with no more then 29-30" tires they sure go along way, look at Jeff and all the WA cats, they wheel the hell out of them and do get into places the Jeep guys couldn't. Yes breaking axle stubs is not not fun from what I can picture, but thats mainly only from wheel spin then landing on it. The thing is, I'm not gonna tell you to not get a K5 - they are good trucks, That K10 sure was along with the '87 GMC 3/4ton we had. But like GD said, you will be dealing with a different crowed in the Jeep or GM guys. Some of them are cool, but a lot are not. They frown apon our Subarus which they have ignorance of and are unwilling to open their eyes to it. Subaru has proved Jeep wrong many atime and will continue to do so as long as the right guy is behind the wheel. At least your looking into a pretty good truck. Old GMs are miles better then any of them built in the 90s till now.
  5. Nice! Its ok, my axle boots were and still are only held on by Zip-ties, and one of my tie-rod end boots has a nice big rip in it. Who ever owned this car before wasa douch. My Loyale is older and nothings ripped on it for god sake!
  6. Ben, how can your EA82 be such a dog being a 5-spd? Mines a 3AT as we all know with a 2" lift and 26-27" tires and it turns over pretty well on the interstate, gets up to 75-80 somewhat easy on a flat suface at about 4000rpm or less. But really, I've started out in 350s with 4bbr carbs and they aren't that much easier to work on. My parents used to have a '79 K10 Blazer 350 4-bbr. Decent truck but u-joints and BJs are a PITA. I hate upper and lower BJs. You have to remember the year of the truck your getting into and how people have treated it since then. What are you gonna be replacing in the soon futrue? For the more part I say the EA82 car is as easy if not more easy to work on then a full size Blazer. Either way your gonna have 50/50 torque split :-p
  7. Thanks Kyle, it was fun - my hands ache like no other though (Joints are sore and have cuts) Its what makes you a man General Grabber AT2s will be coming sometime, whenever I come into more money.
  8. Its Truck bed liner (Huculiner) but I painted over it Lol! You'd be amazed on what these Subarus can do...
  9. Continuation...! Axle reassebled and Car on ground, after drivnig. Before: After: For Sale: Strut Guards, Will fit any Front or Rear struts on EJ models. $25 Shipped/$20 Local pickup. Strut shaft boots, These are for Rear struts but would work on the Fronts too (Bump-Stops hold boots in place) $9 Shipped/$5 Pickup. -Tom
  10. You'd want '98-01 Forester springs for your Outback. And yes it will lift it 3/4" more about, and you can change the top hats to Forester ones aswell since they are thicker.
  11. I have done this....! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=939905#post939905
  12. Continued...! Clearances: Clearance from Spring perch: Before Clearance from Spring Perch: After The Tools: Next up is my passenger side axle... Sometime ago this axle was rebuilt by the P.O, seeing how this guy used Zip-ties for boot clamps and failed to install the snap-ring on the axle shaft (DOJ side) my axle shaft popped out due to not having a Snap-ring to hold it. Oh yes I found the snap-ring, it was bent and laying in the cup of the DOJ. I have now taken the DOJ appart and have a new snap-ring. I'll assemble the axle tomorrow along with installing it into the car. Pictures... New Snap-ring. Continuing.... Another Day!
  13. Long Awaited pictures are here! Rear: Forester Rears Vs Legacy Rears: Outback Rears Vs Legacy Rears: Assembled: Dropped rear crossmember for much need movment: Other side: Front: Out: Forester Fronts Vs Legacy Fronts: Outback Fronts Vs Legacy Fronts: Assembled: Read Next Post For More...!
  14. GD, just to give you a stright answer to the Gen-3 heads. No, the gen 3 heads were also on Loyales (Wagons, Sedans) MilesFox has a set of Gen-3 EA82 heads in his garage that he showed me. -Tom
  15. I think the white/chrome grille would look pretty spiffy. Kinda stands out to much in black. If you don't like that grille, you can always put one in from a Legacy L '95 to I think '98 had the more sleek grille.
  16. Perfect timing! Yep leftover parts are indeed handy. I'll have to check out the legacy next. I have more orange paint if ya need it.
  17. Lol. Yep I found out today that these are longer then the stockers! I just got done with the rears today and wow its nice. Sits a lot higher! Gonna look good when I get the front done - will attemp tomorrow. The old rear struts (208,000) the driver sides piston won't even stay up on its own without the spring on it (Amazing!) the tire used to hop off the ground like a basketball. The other side wasn't much better, but would stay up on its own, but didn't have the power to push its self back up. No more cadillac ride with the new struts :-p
  18. I wouldn't worrie about replacing the engine, The EA82 is a pretty roboust engine and will stand the test of time, Sure the EA82T has issues with Heads cracking due to the boost pressures - but if you keep the boost low and keep your eye on the temp it'll be a hapy engine. Possibilities why its not firing: Coil failed, doubt that. Cap and Rotor failed, Possible. IGN Fuse blew, Maybe. Driver Side Timing belt broke, Since the Driver side timing belt also runs the Distributor - if that belt broke you'd have no ignition spark. And that could be a very possiable cause to not starting. Hope some of this helps -Tom
  19. Just turn your wheels around and mount them backwards (Rear of rim facing outwards) That'll give you some extra width for sure
  20. Got the struts today. Are these right for true Outback struts? I ordered for a '97 Outback. Rears are 29" long and Fronts are 25" long (Total) Forester Springs: Lost...
  21. I HAVE been PM'd, maybe with the 4eat EJ22 it'll only take 3hrs.
