The Plugs are new NGK, I've gone over this entire engine through the build. PCV is new and working, There is no EGR tube on the head (Aren't you thinking about the EJ motors?) This is an EA82 EGR, so it bolts to the intake, and a 5/32" hose runs off that to the carb. And the EGR is working properly. All cylinders are firing accordingly, it runs ok, idle is a little off, and it bucks with the throttle pedal pressed slightly when cruising. Put your foot into it a little more where it starts to pull and there is no more bucking. Maybe you have to drive this car like the Harley drivers do, Feed the gas hard, let off, feed it hard, let off lol... The Vac caps are good, no cracks. I have not tried capping off the HVAC yet. Perhaps I'll give that a whirl. Kinda starting to run out of options. Throttle return spring is just perfect with resistance. Feels good and shut the throttle all the way (I adjusted the throttle hold screw up just so it'll idle about 600-700) But now it idles lower and rough for no apparent reason. My header may have a slight leak, could this be the cause? Still not enough back pressure?

Well, the Bucking is back. How is that possible? Ran great earlier today, no bucking, good power, felt great and thought it was fixed! Now it runs like it always has, bucking, runs like crap when you first start it, sometimes it'll revs up and stalled when trying to warm up. Almost like the choke isn't closing (Will check that out) and that the step-up isn't working. Sadly this car is really pissing me off. Time for

Well I'll be damned. Thats all the problem was! I really didn't think it would matter where it was hooked up, but I did notice the port on the carb has less section than the port straight off the intake, so I can see how that can be a major problem. Problem finally solved! Thank you all! Mick, thank you for the illustrations.

Mick, that is now the way I have it hooked up (Swapped it around last night to see what happens) So the Vac Advance is now running off that port in front of the carb. And yes the other port on the carb is being used for EGR. So the result, it still runs the same.

Few other things. Is fuel suppose to come out of the "Vac Advance port" on the front of the carb? I removed the cap I had on it since I am not using that port, and I found fuel in the cap! Also, how does Back pressure effect these Carbed motors? Even after I repaired the exhaust I have, it still leaks in a spot or two.

I am running an EA82 EGR. So all the vac lines I have are: HVAC (Runs to Intake port) Vac Advance (Run to Intake Port) Brake Booster EGR (Runs to port off front carb) I have one fuel line running to the carb, No Emissions canister and everything else is capped off.

The only options I am left with, with me thinking is either a casting defect somewhere in the carb, or electrical. I may buy a new coil, since they are cheap, and see what that yields. Idles good, drives good with your foot ON the gas. Bucks when your foot is just barely on the gas (Doesn't matter what speed or RPM) It drove like this with the original carb, could this be a compression issue across the cylinders?

I just did this, Same deal. I figured it wasn't a vac leak since everything is new, Good to double check though.

I am puzzled with this bucking. Timing and Carb are not a factor anymore that I can tell, but this bucking is really bugging me. I am wondering, can the coil be faulty? Perhaps giving sporadic spark? There is no bucking if you romp on it (Drive it like you stole it) But just trying to drive like normal folk is very annoying, take offs aren't always smooth, driving thru parking lots sounding like I'm gonna stall. I smell raw fuel while driving, I may lean the carb by a fraction and see if anything changes that way. But other ideas? What else plagues the EA81?

I didn't think about Escort seats, I heard you swapped them in, I might check the local yards and see if I can find a pair in good shape and color. I like how the Outback seats feel, and that they have a hight adjustable frame. Yeah I just emailed you asking how I could Paypal ya the money. I should have some extra money this weekend, just a heads up. I just have addiction with cars lol, I like too many, but can't really support anymore. 3 is pushing it. But I want an Outback again, either a '95-99 or '01-04. How does Jay Leno pull it off...?

What do you mean about the Running lights? Any parking or head lights will not work unless the key is turned to "ON" the only override for the parking lights is right on top of the steering column, that switch is always hot 12v.

Must have been damn near empty eh? What grade do you run in it? I run 93 in the EA82 other wise it pings. So When I need to fill it from being 3/4 tank low, it hurts ha!

I think the Sedan body will work. The fender flares/lips will probably be the same at least. I'll look at some pics.

Good to know about the seats. Oh man... REEALLLYYY....! Coreless is the shiz, I was gonna try and buy a coreless angle grinder, and ship it to you to use (Obviously haven't bought one yet) Well, if you do peep out an EA81 sometime, that'll be the shilt! I am gonna buy an RX grill from James soon, so if you are still looking for one, I will have one for ya.

I have heated Outback seats, I need to build custom brackets for them so I can use the original GL rails. I dunno if the Outback seats are gonna end up being too wide.

That was a typeo. "Doesn't" have the dead spot anymore. I am thinking the carb tune is pretty dead on, I want to see how it starts when the motor is cold. Yeah, my dad was telling me to cap the advance. He's always done that on V8s. learned my lesson. I set the timing while idling about 700rpm, at operating temp. OK, now how does one gain more footwell space? Chop, Cut, Rebuild :-p

So I just checked the timing with a light, and I did disconnect the Advance and plug it. The timing marks showed up once I disconnected the advance. So I set the timing to 10* - it seems happy there, smooth and sounds good. Does really have a delay when the secondary opens like it used to. The true test will be driving it. If it still has bucking, then idk. Clutch is the only thing left that I didn't change.

The other thing is, I am running out of time to get the rear quarter panels I need. I really do not want to make the fender lips from scratch. If anyone knows of a clean EA81 Wagon/Sedan, can they please cut some stuff out for me?

The 5spd would be one of the last things on my list. My Loyale drives just fine right now, don't fix what isn't broke. A larger lift would be awesome though! I would be willing to trade the 2" SJR kit I have plus some money if someone has a complete 4" kit, just a feeler. PM me if anyone is interested in this.

Nope, I thought it may not be needed as TomR mentioned. I did some fine adjustment on it tonight, the carb is now only at 3 turns out and the timing sounds pretty close, it sounds/revs better. I haven't driven it. Maybe tomorrow I will check the timing with a light while the vac advance is plugged, so what that yields.

What are the chances I could sell the GL for $2,000? It runs and drives, will need a clutch sooner or later, still needs the rear quarters welded in. I'm running out of steam for this car, and I'm not fond on how cramped it really is. Anyone interested?

So here are some future plans I've been thinking about. 1. 4" Lift. 2. New KYB struts all around. 3. LightForce lights for front bumper. 4. 5spd D/R swap. 5. Making the rear SJR bumper, better. 6. JDM Corner Lights. 7. Reinforce Aluminum Roof Rack with Steel. These are not in any order, nor due I have a time expectancy as to when I can do any of them. I know one thing, I want to go bigger with the lift.

Alright, I'm giving up on trying to time this motor. I set the motor to 8* BTDC, put disty back in, warmed up and check timing with a light. The timing marks are no where to be found unless I advance the hell out of the gun (30*+) If I set the gun to 8* I see no timing marks. The car runs ok, still bucks like always. So I'm lost. Coil or Clutch issue perhaps? My hips are killing me from driving the GL all Friday night.
