No cuts I could see, unless you welded it and ground it down before you blasted it. Maybe this is a defective block Why not, it would add to the quirkiness of this thing, Headlights are even weird. To many Factory add-ons were done to this car, maybe thats why its phucked up :-p
-
Perhaps I should be another face in the crowd and EJ it! Install a built EJ257! and 5spd or JDM 6spd gear box! :-p
-
No worries Tom, I will double check the Pulleys tomorrow, and if they all do line up, I will get a longer M8 bolt and use this round spacer I have. That would work fine probably. Hmm, I wonder if the 1985+ Solid lifter motors have a different casting? EA81 is a new animal to me. I'm used to EA82s and EJs.
-
I still have all the A/C stuff (Except condenser) which is going to Tom. I personally can't stand A/C in cars. It just adds so much clutter. I would takr the Power steering out of the EA81 as well if I had a manual rack.
-
Yeah, it looks like the pulleys line up. I ran the belt over all them, and it looks good. But for some reason the adjust bracket is just to far away? I don't think later EA81s have an extra casting which would bring it forward more? Here are some better pictures, with flash!
-
You can givith, and you can takith away! CEL is on again eh? But it runs ok? To much emissions crap on these cars, I swear, that is the main culprit of CELs on Subarus.
-
I thought it was weird too. Also, why is the hole on the alt for the adjustment screw threaded? That means the adjustment screw has to enter from the rear of the bracket? If I were to loosen the bracket and turn it closer to the alt, the bracket will not be straight. I feel like a dumb rump roast ha!

I really can't even comprehend how factory clean this car is! Its mind boggling for sure. Can't wait to see the build! Why is this car always wet? lol.

I like that. Scarlett. "Frankly Scarlett, I don't give a damn"

I routed all the PCV lines and connected it to the Air filter. This is the connector I make for my electro choke. It basically plugs into the black wire on the main harness. The Blue wire has 0 power going to it at all times, so WTF? The Black wire has power going to it with the key turned to "on" so that is what I want, correct? Locking Male Spade terminals, which I used, they lock into the plastic housing. The one thing I totally do not understand is this Alt bracket. It doesn't fit right. But there is no other way to mount it, that I can see. What the hell? What is wrong?

JesZek, is the color of the door card, factory? It looks "Cream" ? I agree the Brown would work better with the Yellow, vs the blue. If I had access to a 1985-86 GL, I would send you all the interior bits you need. I'm used to high-revving, I can drive about 75mph at 4300rpm, but the motor seems happy at 4000-4500rpm, it seems less stressed. I would say I average 20mph on the interstate with the 27s and roof rack.

Wow, that thing is stripped, and is coming along! It was blue when I first saw it, right? Yeah I know about going through discs and cutting wheels. I went through enough cutting discs and flapper discs from just doing all the welding and patchs on the GL. I really want to do a pro job on the GL when I repaint it, perhaps it comes from watch "Chop cut rebuild" maybe thats just too extream for this car, but I just want to do a real quality job, to prove to my self, that I can do it! I think I am going to paint the door jams matt black once I repaint the whole car, it'll kinda bring the interior out more when the doors are open and I think it would look cool. Just I can use a rattle can for that, since its a small era.

Update, the trip is going to be postponed for the time being for reasons. Absolutly not a huge deal, take care of what you have to take care of man. Maybe I can get the Ski wagon running this weekend, if I get my electrical connectors tomorrow! I would really love to hear that thing roar to life again.

Its probably a redrill. I have a write up about it in the USRM. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=132536 And yes, the Hardtops are awesome! I like them more then the Fun-top versions.

Oh balls. I hate body work on hot days! At least the VW isn't the largest car in the world, but still. I give you credit for doing it in this heat! Although, I am the same way and would probably do it too. Got any updated pics of it?
-
Ah, he does. Maybe I can grab one before they all sell out. Because we all know there is a run on swapping $300 steering wheels into 1980s Subarus :-p So, I went to O'Reilys and got a molded hose for the bypass. Part number is Gates ECR 28467 about $10. I also routed the Valve cover vent hoses, I just need to get another molded elbow so I can then tie the PCV to them and run it all to one port on the Air cleaner (Hence the 2nd black T connector.) I also picked up a set of '93 Impreza hubcaps for $15 for laughs. They don't seem to clip into the Wagon wheels very well? Kinda a PITA to get them popped on. These are just temp until I get the 16" trailer wheels. I was thinking of repainting the caps white (Looks like Golf balls Ha!) but I may repaint the wagon wheels as well. I also have a different set of hubcaps coming from Skylar, they are 1985, what you would find on an XT (Solid with lines) Its been flippin' hot all week 100+ with 70% Humidity, so I haven't done much, that and having no money haha.

Loaded up for the trip later tonight. The adventure begins...

Lol, there should be some type of "Like" button on this board, instead of replaying with a "+1, or right on"

Nip, I know! You couldn't resist the temptation of gaining the power of Safariwagon, you just had to touch it.. :-p Gary, yes, you can mix the Gear oil with the Motor oil. I just didn't have anything to put it in once time (Oil container was full up as I didn't take it to get it dumped) Dunno about burning/steaming the Antifreeze in a fire. I'm not sure if the steam is bad or not. But the idea would indeed work, the smell of hot, sweat substance would probably become unbearable after a while lol. Yeah I hate waiting in a room until my vehicle is done. My folks never took the whole car anywhere, so thats where I picked it up on. Plus, sometimes it costs less since you don't need to occupy a service bay. As for polluting the water supply around here, well, up north has it pretty much covered with the Paper mills and shiz dumping crap into the Fox River, which travels most of WI and down to IL. Its pretty horrible just thinking about what a corporation is dumping into our water. I'm not a tree hugger, but I have a decent respect for the earth and nature, I try not to be a total pig. But sometimes you are forced to do somethings you're not too keen on doing, because proper facilities are to far away or are few and far between.

Must be nice to stroll into a junkyard and find all these goodies! Arg, I'm envious
-
Lol, no worries man. As for alignment, I've been getting pretty lucky adjusting the tie rods my self until it drives straight. I guess the only thing I have done at a shop, is tire mounting and everything that goes with that. but I never take the car there, just the wheels. Nobody touches my car.

Shawn, I suppose I could recycle it the correct way. I don't know where in Waukesha County would take it. I'm not gonna drive 60min RT to Milwaukee, Dane County is way up north ect. I can do a google search for areas around Waukesha, and I agree, Good is the shiz for searching! As for befriending Auto shops ect, no, I have not befriended any auto shops, as I never take car car to any of them. I do recycle my used oil and such, I've only poured gear oil down the drain maybe twice, as I had nothing to put it in and just wanted to be done. Waukesha does indeed have a bushel of oil recycling facilities.

Canadian spec eh. Thats weird lol. Yeah I figured all 1985-86 EA82s had the Flush mount signals. Also, weren't the '85-'86 bumpers shorter (Did not stick out as far as '87+ ?) Unless that was only for the 3-doors? Wonder what else Canada got as an option, that we didn't?

They are the Cal-Masters They aren't to hard to find on the West-coast. nice Brat btw! Is that a Hilux in the background?
