  1. Yeah I did that a once, oops! Has anyone ever left there hood popped (Safety latch holding it) while you drive 75mph down the freeway and are watching it bobbing up and down, lol not the best thing to watch.
  2. Jon, that turned out Great and looks awesome! Those tires look pretty grippy and a hard compound. I like the idea of the center cap templet, and I think it would work just fine, I see no real issue with it.
  3. I inspected the wires in the engine bay, they all look factory from 1983. I can't really see anything linking both sets of bulbs together, as the wires for both sts of lights run right into the main harness and is covered with that plastic protector, tape even looks tight and factory. So I dunno? Here is what I did today, I put a battery charger on the batt (12v 6amp) I then turned the head lights on, all four are on, if I turn the brights on, all four are on, but the outers become dim, and the inners become brighter. SO, I unplugged the inners, and turned the high beams on again, the outers still become dim, even with no extra draw on them, WTF? I found the High-beam relay, it is the one labled "White" on the passenger side tower. It clicks, so I assume it is working correctly. I don't know what to make of the dimming situation? Why would low-beams become dim when you turn the high-beams on, if the high-beams are not connected, there shouldn't be any extra draw...? I think if it were a short, the fuse would have blown, unless I'm not pushing enough amps into the system. Perhaps I'll wait till I get it running again, so I have the alt to charge the system. The alt on these are what, 50amp? Ben, thanks for the Sylvania part numbers.
  4. Inners are indeed Highbeams, but why are they on with the other headlights? If I use the Highbeam switch, the Highbeams get brighter. IDK.
  5. Gotta love that Camry. I bet that thing is just pure smooth power, like all the Toyotas now days. Rock on!
  6. I've used the Green tape as well, yes way better than the Blue. Does not get stuck to the car. But the tape off line isn't sharp, I'll have to ask a automotive painter, what tape they use. So, whats the deal with this? This EA81 only has the outer lights lit, when I turn the headlights on, in my GL, all 4 come on? Is that right? If all four are supposed to illuminate at all times, I want to rewire them, so the inner lights are only for High-beams. As I am going to run HIDs for my Headlights, and will run 100w bulbs for my Highbeams. Scott, I'm gonna call upon you again, perhaps you can help me wire this up, the same time I convert the corner lights to blinkers.
  7. Looks bigger with the Intake, Alt and PS pump on it But it is indeed a wider engine then any EA series.
  8. If you are looking for some cheap 15" steelies, look at any local pickN pull. Any wheel with a 5x100 bolt pattern will work on your car, Auto Al's in franklin has a good supply of steel wheels, and Alloys if you want. They have a few Subarus there now and then, they usually have a steady supply of '90-'99 Legacy/Impreza/Outbacks. If you want to class up your interior, I have a set of the wood grain bezels for the window switches and center console trim fyi.
  9. Don Miller indeed still does Subaru meets. They just did the 6th annual show on June 10th, was pretty cool and sh*t. I heard ya on money this month, I only have $130 until the 6th Boo! I will keep ya up to date about meets and shows, after Subaru city's show, it'll be down to the Impreza/NASIOC guys for meets. There might still be another Subaru show up in Sheboygan or something, I'll check it out. If anything, maybe we can get a little meet going one of these weekends, Keaton, you, maybe the dude from Lake Geneva, and I'll even swing out for some shiz and gigs, talk Subarus and what not. As for tires, There isn't a whole lot for Off-road tires in 14" (Unless you want to through on some ATV tires for trails) 27" Maxxis Bighorns are pretty knobby, which is what I'm running on my Loyale, but they don't wear the best on the high-way, they seem a little softer compound then my BFG KM2 Mud-Terrains on the Landcruiser. Be about $700ish for 4 Maxxis Bighorns.
  10. You also have the advantage of the 5spd, the 4spd EA81 is loads quicker then my 3AT Loyale.
  11. I was thinking about doing the top center pillar cover black, while leaving the bottom gray, dunno. There is no going back once I do something, and it has to be soothing to the eye. I need The checkered seats out of an RX now! I am also working on a getting something that was not available to the American market
  12. 0-70mph in 16sec? LMAO! An EA82? Try more like 25sec to 70mph for the 3.900 3AT  My 4.11 4EAT EJ22 Legacy gets up to 60mph in about 14sec lol... I would like to see a video of a take-off with the Loyale, Perhaps yours is faster then mine
  13. Earl is correct. The guy has a build thread about it, it is turning out awesome! Even has WRX interior. EDIT: Build thread. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=131473
  14. Here is a '96 Legacy with Outback struts and 16" WRX wheels with 215/65/16 BFG All-Terrains Here is an Aussie Legacy, Probably has suspension from HiRiseSubaru Backyard Boys or the like.
  15. 6yrs! Right on, Thats how long I've had my Loyale. With the Lift, 26.6" is pretty large, you can indeed fit a bit taller tire in there, as there is enough space from the tire to the spring perch, where as with the stock struts, the spring perch is lower, and will limit you to a just under 26" tire. So you can totally go a little bigger then 26.6", but the width is the thing you have to watch, other wise you will rub on the strut body. Unless you run some type of wheel spacer, but then you are putting more stress on the wheel bearings, and no good comes from that. As for the Meet, it is at Subaru City in Greenfield (27th and Layton) it will be from 10am-2pm this Saturday. Gonna have trophies, food, DJ, Monster truck action and such. Its a good time for all Plus then I can unload all my Subaru knowledge on yo rump roast Lol! Funny your name is Tom as well, 2 Toms don't make a right? PS, with your currant lift, you won't really need to trim the fenders, these cars have a large enough wheel well, that it'll clear pretty well even at full lock and compression. Adding the 1/2" spacers should be fun, I had to stand on my knuckles to get the Outback struts with Forester springs in there, Another 1/2" would have been insane lol. But, if you start to unbolt your crossmembers to lower then a little, it will allow for more drop and will be easier to install the spacers. Then just tighten the crossmembers back up when you're done.
  16. Thanks for the confirmation eman! Also, to add to the questions below. Once I prime everything, do I need to lightly sand the primer before I add the Sealer coat? Scotch-brite pad? And then would I just apply paint over the sealer coat? I have the idea of using a Black sealer, to maybe give the white a different depth/tint.
  17. That turned out outstanding, I'm drooling for sure. Where did you get the new hardware? I cannot find Metric Stainless with that style head.
  18. Ok, lets get down to some serious talk about Painting. When the time comes to repaint this car, I am going to repaint it the Factory Porcelain White. I am going to repaint the car in my garage, I am going to remove the Doors so I can get the jams. What I need to know is some good products to use. Should I use a brush un stripper to take it down to bare metal? After I prime it, should I use a Sealer? What type of primer should I use? I don't want it to start flaking off a few months later, I guess Acid etching is the way to go, but is this what the pros use? Should I do a two stage or single stage paint (Aka Clear or no Clear) Where can I get those large sheets of paper to mask things off? Using Newspaper is for the birds. Also what type of masking tape do pros use to get a crisp clean line, with no seepage? 3M doesn't seem to work very well, it has a rough line. I've been watching "Chop, Cut, Rebuild" which is giving me a lot of ideas on body work and painting, but I dunno how far is to far, this is not a Show car, but I want to do a great job on it, so it looks factory or better then factory. Who here has done serious professional repainting? I'm not talking about rattle cans lol. Also, can you wet sand with 2000grit before you apply clear? I want to do this right the first time, and have a nice end result, without wasting money.
  19. I should also mention, the largest tire you will be able to run on the Legacy will be a 26.6" Overall with a 9" Section Width. I ran 225/60/16 Potenzas on Outback Alloys, and I had about 1/4" of space between the strut body and Sidewall, and about 7/8" from the top of the tire to the bottom of the spring perch.
