Subruise's Head-gasket Surface Gouge (EA82)
TheLoyale replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I wonder what a machine shop would charge to resurface and Deck both sides of the block. -
So many people don't keep their terminals clean, the corrosion robs sooo much juice its crazy. My battery is always clean Got all the brake parts painted. Put the passenger side backing plate on, but need to buy some hardware for the Caliper bracket, some of its missing thanks to USPS!
-
+1 to that! I would rather blow $170 on a new genuine part, then finding a used one. I would have bought an XT4 EA82T. But it won't make it in the driveway without ripping off the front bumper lol. Wagons it is. Gotta say, I like that color. Gotta find the JDM front markers that stick out from the fender!

Rear Calipers, before/after Changed out the battery terminals with Brass and 24k gold plated. Should be the best connectivity I can get. I did the same thing on the EA82, and all day its been way more peppy, could I have been getting lower voltage with the stock terminals? I tell you, there is a notable difference, even in this humid 80* temps, the power is there, wow!

I think you can press a new bushing into these. Granted, you need to find a bushing that fits. I want to say this was done to Monster Wedge 2 yrs ago. I rode in it before dude swapped it out, and omg the clunk from the diff hitting the underbody was bad. You're gonna have a nice car man!
-
Did you buy that new from the dealer? How much was it, I might grab one for my EA82 and EA81.
-
Crossmember shifting, That would be interesting. Although, I had my crossmember nuts loose and unthreaded almost half way down the shank once, as I forgot to tighten them up after an Axle swap. I didn't have any noises, I noticed it the next time I had the wheel off, Whoops! :-p perhaps someone needs to hang on to the underside of the car, while moving back and forth to pin point it lol... I am not gonna volunteer for that one, Scott.

I could roll out to Wads if ya want. I'm only gonna clean the EA82 tomorrow evening. You can tell the inner rods are going, if you remove your outer end from the knuckle, and push/pull on the shaft, if there is any movement, replace it. Also, they shouldn't be able to turn/rotate real easy. Think of it as a Balljoint, to easy to move, and its crap. As for your trans, I doubt it. You have no grinding going into any gear, I don't hear any bearing noise. It could possibly be a u-joint and transferring sound, but, eh. I think it would moan at speed or something, considering its traveling at 20,000mph at 65mph
-
Doesn't seem like a U-joint. I've rode in the car, and it is right around the foot well area. I don't hear any noise at speed, indicating a sloppy failing U-joint. Axles don't make any noise that I heard. Hmm, so why the pop every now and then. I'm still thinking steering related. Scott, I get a pop like yours every once in a while (Not as loud) but it is 100% the same! I wonder if this has to do with the lift? Did you car ever do it before the lift? I don't remember it popping when I rode with ya. EDIT: I wonder if the Swapbar plays a roll in this?

That was a nice thread to read! "NO SHIFT!"

Wow, yeah. That bushing is gone! Is that seal on the Output shaft for the Center driveshaft?

My first Subie, 1983 Brat GL.
TheLoyale replied to vahidisabrat's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Brats didn't have the large rubber piece that covers the fender lip like the other EA81s. So those would be the correct rear flaps -
Ha! Yeah I would like disc on the Loyale since I have 27s, stopping power is there, but not enough to lock them up on dry pavement (Poor mans ABS?) Yeah everything on the GL brake wise needs a refresh. The drums are grooved and rusted pretty good. Backing plate is gone, needs new spring kit and shoes. So why not upgrade! Needless to save, these brakes won't meet the fate of the ones currently on the car. I am going to paint the caliper and bracket, gloss Gray with Black lettering (Probably clear them after) I will redo the backing plates Semi-gloss black (If you have a better color in mind? Post it up!) I still need to buy some hard line and unions to run down to the soft caliper line.
-
Cause this thing needs full rear brakes, and I am not gonna drop money on drum parts. So disc it is! The Loyale will get a disc conversion someday.
-
Where would Subaru get these exact screws? Just some new ones would be nice! A Hardware store has to stock then, yeah? Got the rear disc setup from Subruise! AWESOME MAN!! Need to get everything painted up. Thinking Red, with White or Black for the Tokico stamping.
-
That is the stock grill, at 3-Doors/RXs had that style vs the honeycomb grill on the sedan/wagon bodies
-
I think I am going to get some new screws for the interior panels. Most of mine are cruddy. Do they make Stainless metal screws? I guess these are metal screws, They have an almost Lag thread.
-
I'm just gonna say these plugs aren't important, and put my seat in, so I'm done with the interior! I bought some Brass Bat terminals today. I installed some new colored Led ones, but one broke in half, cheap crap. These are more heavy duty.
-
Wow, those do looks good in there. Rather plush! I haven't seen a Daewoo in a while.
-
I never said you didn't take care of your car, its good you took care of the rust and all mechanicals. Most people don't. I just can't stand scratched/dirty windows, and leaky lights, pet peeve if you will lol. I am glad we don't have inspection or emissions testing in WI. I am kinda shocked you can have a lifted Subaru with inspection, since in their eyes its an unsafe homemade alteration. I heard there was some country, that it is illegal to do anything to your car, that did not come factory. Not even larger wheels/tires.

Please, don't give Scott anymore ideas before the Subaru show...
