Simple EA82 water pump questions
TheLoyale replied to 81EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
These are cool: Just make sure you always use lock-washers on the new Bolts if you go that route. http://www.roadraceengineering.com/parts/tial/46mm_hardware_kit.jpg -
Simple EA82 water pump questions

Instead of transferring studs into that spindle, I would just use bolts. Would be the same either way. -

Yes, that is the correct pump. It is just upside down in that photo. That gasket will do just fine, I would apply some Blue/Black RTV to both sides of the gasket during install to help it even more, this is what I did 3 years ago, and no leaks. As for the studs, that is kinda odd. Mine had Studs. Check ebay maybe, might pay less as well. You might also want to replace the small hose that is on top of the Waterpump, they get over looked and cause leaking. You will need to remove the Alt bracket to get at it. -
EA81 powersteering rack rebuild
TheLoyale replied to Idasho's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
For others looking for a seal kit for their EA82 power steering rack, here: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=79592 As for re-building yours, I can't imagine needing any special tools. Its a Subaru. It should be fairly straight forward, I want to say I've seen someone rebuild one on here a while ago, but don't know what thread. -
The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread

Woah, this guy is a hard rump roast... I'm scared sh*tless. -
Now I am debating on swapping, mainly just to remove un-needed stuff from the motor and to clean up the engine bay (I like clean and organized engine bays) Which is why I would also like to swap to a Weber 32/36 DGEV. I can eliminate a lot of the vacuum lines and the Emissions system lines/canister. Plus, I think my Hitachi needs a rebuild, but I can not find a such a kit. And are there no adjustment screws on the DCP306-21? I can not find anything else except the idle adjust screw.

That is what I was kinda thinking fan wise. I don't thing they had this style of fan blades back in the 80s. As for the PS, How much difference does it drive with the Manual steering? Its a light car. In some ways, I would mind eliminating the Power steering pump/rack on this car, one less belt, and more space!

Hitachi DCP306-21 (Rebuild Kit)

34 people don't have a clue either.. -
Anyone love how cracked the V-belts are? Wow!

So, obviously I need a new lower rad support. Here is the new Rad! $140 from Parts-hut. Want to get a metal threaded plug for the port in the side vs the plastic one they give you which doesn't seat flush. Old Rad. Easy to work on now! Some stampings? New WIX! The Power steering pump is kinda in the way for a lot of things. Are both of these Genuine? Why is the 2nd one held together with Zip-ties? Air cleaner all painted.
-
Indeed they do, it also have a picture, but I have no clue what they look like. $65 for a Heater core! I would expect $130+, maybe thats only GMs

I'm not real familiar with the motor from this car, but if it has a Timing belt, I would ask the seller if he ever serviced that. If he has no idea, then I would see about checking it out before logging a lot of miles on it. Post some pictures and info if you buy it!

That post actually made me laugh out loud! And is down to a tee.

Replacing a rear transfer clutch in a 4EAT isn't too hard, but replacing the reverse clutch is. Which is why I just dropped in a lower milage $400 trans.
-
Hmm, I've said this about almost everything on my wagon... Welcome to the elite owners club!
-
Ah, I've heard many stories of failed rear transfer clutches during continuous off-roading/extremes. The 4EAT is a pretty bullet proof transmission, mine had 225,000 on it when the reverse clutch pack went (Why the reverse clutch pack out of the three?) Although, mine still has the original Duty-C and Clutch pack (Amazing!)

I found this on ebay. The guy lists it for the DCP306-11 to 16 but not the 21. Will this still be the correct rebuild kit for my '83 DCP306-21? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Carburetor-Kit-For-Hitachi-Carbs-Model-DCP306-11-12-13-14-15-16-/221010465795?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3375401403&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_951

Ah, I forgot you did a Weber install on that motor. I think is the route I'm gonna go on mine. I can't find a rebuild kit for it.
