People probably thought the MPFI EA82T had to many buttons and knobs in the interior as well back in the 80s. But I agree, new cars are becoming ridiculous with technology inside the cabin. The who Star-Link thing (Like On-star for GM) is just another feature that is unneeded as well as touch screen radio units that can sync with your phone and what nots. Of course with all the added tech goodies, comes an added price, but then again, pretty much all new vehicles are 30k+ for something quailty. Just seems to be the trend thats sticking around I'm just waiting for the day the drivelines out of these new Subarus are cheap and common enough to acquire to swap into the older gen stuff.

4WD bumper is mounted! I've always liked how this bumper tucks in about 1.5" more than the stock one.

86 Brat sputters when I shut if off..

Idle could be brought down a bit, 700-800rpm would be best. -

The Brake booster hose or straight down the carb. Either way it'll work its way around the intake system cleaning it out. DO NOT, stick it in the crank case. There are other options to clean deposits out of the oil system. -

Are you running the stock hitachi? If so, there should be an Anti-Dieseling solenoid on the side of it to prevent this. Dieseling is sometimes common with the Weber swap because there is no solenoid. What you can do also besides water, is rev the motor up, remove the air filter cover and pour about 1/2 can of Seafoam down the carb, and then either stall it with the Seafoam, or shut it off quick. Let it sit about 15/20min then fire it back up (May take a little bit depending how good your plugs are) it will smoke like hell for a few, but rev the hell out of it, and once it stops smoking so much, take it for a spirited drive and give it a good running to blow out the carbon. Seafoam will do the same thing as water, but is petroleum based. And personally a better solution. I've done it to ever vehicle so far, Carb or FI. Here is a good video showing you how to use it correctly. -
I would assume Grade 8 would be strong enough. Tip on pounding out studs. Put a lug you don't care about on it, so you mush the threads. Works Everytime!
-
I managed to have extra, just enough infact! O'reillys doesn't stock the studs with the right flange/head, its too small as is the shank. They have lots of 12x1.25mm lug studs, but nothing like the Subaru ones (I used to work there) If I still did I could call Dorman and find out the part number for the correct ones.

Ascending to hatchdom......and fun with little issues

Drop it off in my driveway? $1,100 is a steal for this (At least around here) -
Making two brackets to mount the '82 4WD bumper for the 2WD mount! Hoping this will turn out good. Pics to come.

Well done! Looks great man! Great info too! I will have to send you a PM with some things I am looking for

Food for thought indeed bud! Thank you Finished up the plates today, Studs in and welded! Just gotta clean them up and paint them.
-
I knew you were going to refer to Yellow ! Not sure what color the car is going to be yet, changes are it's going to be some Desert color.
-
Re-drilled the Rear Hub plates tonight! Turned out good (Thankfully I didn't mess up a unicorn part) Tomorrow I will grind the backs down and weld in some studs, some blast them and hit them with some truckbed liner and she'll be ready to rock 6-lug rear discs (As soon as the other parts come in) So we'll do a poll. What color should I paint the new Calipers? I was thinking that grayish blue (Blay) color I did on the Skiwagon, seemed to turn out good, but open to other color options! Post it up!

I had another RX grill, it was red. But I sent that to Bennie in Aus a few years ago. I'm actually working on a custom Loyale grill, once I get done with it I think it may look cool. I'm not gonna run it, but may put it up for sale once completed. I need to buy some styrene and plasti-weld though.
-
No worries on the Calipers JesZek, it would probably cost about the same to ship yours to the U.S as it would to buy a set of eBay ($105) either way, no worries Yeah these grilles are pretty cool, reminds me of the Turbo EA81 grills (Honey comb style) I have no intention of putting this on my car, I have the RX/3-Door grill on mine. This will probably just be a relic that'll hang around my home in nice condition

Just part of the rear disk swap goodness! Picked up Caliper brackets, and Hub plates today. Another member is sending me the backing plates. I just gotta acquire Slotted rear rotors, and reman genuine Calipers. Just ordered new Slide pins and will also need to get new Slide pin boots and some Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads! I blasted the Caliper brackets and then painted them with Truckbed liner. Also, here is the difference between the front and rear hub plates. This is a Front EA82 23 spline hub plate. These are the rear disk hub plates. As you can see the The hole is much smaller nor does it have a raised center. This is the reason these plates are rear specific. Also snagged this Blackish '85-'86 Grill. I have no plans for it, other than cleaning it up and hanging it on the wall!

I'll have to look. The Knuckles look the same from what I remember, good that you pointed that out first though!

Yeah man, I will see what happens. I haven't really tried to put the bumper on yet (Gotta take the fenders off and see what I can do with the mounting area) I suppose I could cut out the 2WD bumper mounting point and weld two captured nuts like on a 4WD so it'll work. If I can't make it with with the bumper mounts, I will send them back to you! Also going to try and get the front brakes from an EA82/Loyale since they are 9.5" and swap that onto this along with some new Slotted rotors! The back is just gonna get all new drums, Hardware, Shoes etc... So who has the some Loyale brake stuff? I'll take everything minus the Calipers. I'll get some new ones off eBay.

I'll be keen to see what happens to the Brat. With a full EJ drivetrain swap it'll truly be the "Flying Banana" Hope you keep us updated on this, possibly with part numbers and solid info on swaps! -Tom

Indeed, Black 2nd and 3rd gen Subies are unicorns. The Checkered interior these came with is awesome. I forgot, are these FT4WD?
-
The Beam inside of it is probably made of some type of alloy or has more holes in it to make it lighter. Maybe its filled with Helium
-
Looks like the ole EA82T did its job! Nice find man

I still can't figure out how you keep getting all this amazing stuff. I just don't get it lol. How do you find stuff in Japan, let alone have it shipped to you!? I really need a lot of this stuff I still give you mad props on this and your Sedan, you do amazing work. -Tom

Picked up the bumper last Sunday, looked just about as good as when it left me! Just needed to be re-polished and the rubber re-moisted. Now I gotta figure out how to make a 4WD bumper work on a 2WD that had the impact bumper struts (Which I removed) Anyway, got a set of KYB Gas A Justs today for the rear, installed them and its a night a day difference from the original collapsed dampers. Awesome stuff! #KG4183A Straight out of the 80s, thats for sure! The rear finally sits up just a bit, no more saggy rear end! Also repainted the rear badge since all the chrome flaked off. All Tamiya paints. Gray and Red to keep it looking 80s.
