  1. I have already read many threads on how to do the valve adjustment job, but I have not seen any write-ups of how to do the valve adjustment job using the new tool part #498187200. That is all I am asking about. Sorry if I'm being rude.
  2. I am about to do a valve adjustment on my 1997 Outback 2.5L and a few other Outbacks 2.5L of friends at my work. I have not decided to get the shim replacer tool part number 498187200 but if it makes the job go much easier I might get it, this tool replaced the old one (498187100). On a "The End Wrench" document it showed how to use the old tool (498187100) and it was straight forward on how to use it. It appears to me that this new tool (498187200) is to big, there is very little room in between the cam, the head and the valve to get this tool in there. Maybe I'm just having a brain fart on this one, so does anybody have pictures of this tool in use or know of some pictures on-line of it being used. Thanks
  3. Ok, I'll give that a try. Thanks

  4. I don't have that special tool that you are looking for unfortunately. However in that instance on the ej25 dohc I usually just remove the cam off of the exhaust or intake side depending on what you are working on and put in the next size shim. Then put in the cam again and check tolerance again with a feeler gauge. Thanks, jerry

  5. Hello Jerry,

My name is Dave and I live in the Denver Area and I don't know if you remember but I bought a turbo "Y" pipe for a 1990 Loyale from you about six months ago, but this “Y” pipe is not why I’m writing you. I am in the process of finishing up some valve work on my 1997 Outback 2.5L and I am to the point of where I need to set the valve clearances (bucket shims). I can not seem to be able to depress the buckets without the special tool to get the shims out like so many guys on the site say to do it. So my questions is, do you have or have access to one of these special valve depressing tools, I do believe the tool number is ST49818700 or the new one 498187200? If you do, is it possible if I could rent this tool from you for a few hours, I would really appreciate it? Thanks

    Dave

  6. Does anybody know the part numbers for the head gasket, intake manifold gasket and exhaust manifold gasket for a 1997 Outback 2.5L? Thanks
  7. I found what I was looking for, thank you for telling me about that site.
  8. I know this might be a long shot, but does anyone out there have a Shop Manual on their computer for a 1997 Outback that they could e-mail to me? Thanks
  9. I have a 1997 Outback that has low compression (25lbs) in the fourth cylinder. I have not tore into the engine yet so I’m not sure what the problem is nor do I know how much it would cost to rebuild one head. I came across a set of heads for sale ($150), they are off of a 1998 Outback. I’m going to pull the head off of my car and at least figure out what the problem is before I would buy these other heads. But what I really need to know is will the heads off of a 1998 Outback engine fit on a 1997 Outback engine? Thanks in advance for any info to this question.
