  1. Ok so I just undid several feet of electrical tape and here's how I powered my rig: On the main ignition relay: the two yellow wires are tied to my fused wire direct from the battery. This fused wire also goes to the ECU memory. The green wire goes to switched power from the EA harness. I tied it into the wiring from the ignition switch (couldn't see which one, but not hard to figure out). The black/white wire goes to ground. I attached mine to the frame that holds the steering column. The yellow/red wire next to the green wire goes to power the ej harness (ie- attaches to other yellow red wires). The yellow/red wire by the black/white wire also goes to power the ej harness, but also splits off to supply power to both yellow wires to the fuel pump relay. On the fuel pump relay: Large and small yellow wires tied into yellow/red from ignition relay as stated above. Also there is a small yellow wire tied in at the same place that goes up to the ecu (I couldn't see pin that it went to but could maybe dig deeper if need be). The green/black wire goes up to the smj and I dont remember where from there. The black/red wire goes to the fuel pump. Hope this helps. Daniel
  2. Oh yeah, refer to page 21/22 of numbchux ea2ej write up. This will help sort out the power to the main relay. Good luck. I tried to get into my harness to take pics but it is buried deep in my dash and covered in electrical tape. Daniel
  3. As I recall you should only have the main ignition relay and the fuel pump relay from the ej harness. If they are getting hot then you probably arent grounded properly. I believe the one on the left is the fuel pump relay because of the black red wire although on my ej harness the plug was green. There was a large yellow wire and small yellow wire, a green black wire and the black red on the fuel pump plug that goes to the relay. The main ignition relay was a brown plastic box. Not sure what year your harness is from, but IIRC that black red wire goes to the fuel pump. If youre not hearing your fuel pump come on for a second or two when you turn on the ignition then you've got a problem. I would start by making sure your fuel pump is working because that will tell you easily if the main relay is working properly. Do you get 12v anywhere on the ej harness when the ignition is on? Do you have a direct line from the battery to the ecu (fused!) and switched power from the ea ignition switch to the ej main ingition relay? I bet your problem is with the switched power to the main ignition relay, and ground wires. Daniel
  4. Hey there: I've been off subs for the last couple days dismantling a landrover. I'll check my wiring when I get home. For the CEL light I strung the wire from the ecu directly to the round plug behind the dash. I followed the lines on the printed circuit board behind the dash from the CEL bulb back to the round plug. I didnt hook up the neutral switch and dont get any codes after several thousand miles. Any yellow will be power to something on the ej harness so if something you are keeping has a yellow wire dont cut it. I'll fine the wires from my ecu to the CEL when I get home and post up what I did. You are not going to have enough dancing bananas when this thing fires up! Daniel
  5. Congrats on your brat purchase! Welcome! Daniel
  6. Nice turn out of old subs at your car show! They all look very nice! Thanks for sharing the vids! The blue brat in the second video is my favorite! Daniel
  7. Heres a link to the radiator hoses I used. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=89415&highlight=napa+radiator+hose Scroll down to the bottom posts of this page. I went to napa and found some off the shelf. I run a 4/3 lift, and a stock ea81 radiator. These were almost perfect. I think I had to trim a little off the top hose. Hope this helps. I'm currently not running a pitch stopper. It only really bugs me in reverse because my y pipe will rub a bit on the engine crossmember. With your wiring just keep going. Eventually you'll either get it, or you will spend an afternoon rereading the pin out page of numbchux's write up and going pin to pin with a multimeter trying to get each one to read properly. There's not that many and you can do it. Leave ground wires on the harness and tie them together in a few places and make sure they are grounding. OH yeah and dont cut the yellow wire to the coil pack like I did! That took a little while to find. Keep up the good work, and it will be worth it! Daniel
  8. +1 on the Time Sert. I used one in my range rover about 50k miles ago and all is good still. I paid someone to do it and iirc it was about $100 with 8 new plugs. Daniel
  9. Right on man! Can you come to california and paint mine please? That is quite the transformation. Good work. Daniel
  10. Here's an ad I would send them for the high end. Daniel http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/1296336464.html
  11. Hey Bosco: I would recommend that you consider settling the property damage seperately from any bodily injury stuff. That way you can really make sure you're ok and you can hold that over them while they decide how much to offer you for the brat. When our volvo got destroyed I printed out about 50 craigslist ads for similar vehicles and flooded them with info. Obviously the brat will be a different story. I would also ask what the insurance limits are for the person who hit you. Thats always good info to have. I would also consider writing a "letter of demand" to describe the story of your brat and how unique it was, and state how much you would settle the property damage claim for. Your work on that thing is pretty well documented and this can be used to your advantage. Sorry to throw all this stuff at you, I hope it helps. Daniel
  12. I drove through Provo last month twice! Its really beuatiful in that area. I went to Colorado to pick up a non-sube project vehicle. In cal they test my brat as a 93 legacy. They put a tamper proof sticker under the hood with all the info about what emissions stuff is supposed to be there. The smog referee has to see this stuff and feel comfortable that they are working properly before he will pass the swap as smog legal. The guy wanted to see both cats from the legacy, and wanted to see my check engine light functioning properly and then lastly they did a smog test which included the new evap system test where they blow smoke into the evap system and look for leaks. I passed on everything except my gas cap, but the guy let me slide on that because when he took it off before the test you could here the pressure in the tank release. Daniel
  13. Heres mine. Made from a large piece of steel tubing. Bent with BFH. Warn 6000# winch. Still need to protect the stock blinkers. Daniel
  14. Oh youre in Utah. I thought you were in Happy Valley Ca. I dont know about utah laws. Sorry. Daniel
  15. Excellent! You're going to be so psyched when that ej fires up for the first time! I still get psyched getting on my freeway entrance. The ej brat is the best. I think now that sko's frankenbrat got smashed mine is the only other ej brat in Cal. Have you talked at all with your smog ref about your swap? If you have any questions about it I got my smog sticker back in May and everything went smoothly. Good work. Daniel
  16. Hey S'ko After my wifes accident they went to the er and then after we got back to California ( it happened in the middle of the desert in Nev and I had to go get her and the kid) I took my kid to his doctor and took my wife to an Orthopedic specialist to go through her neck, back, shoulder and arm. The airbag deployment hit her pretty hard. Its helpful if you have health insurance. Accidents suck. D
  17. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Bosco that sucks! I cant believe it! Fight for what that thing was worth! What a bummer! Get yourself checked out again. My wife felt fine after her crash a few years ago, but a few days later was a mess. Sorry this happened. Daniel
  18. I'm also a land rover freak and recently found a set of jackman wheels for the landrovers. I was so psyched! Aparently lrover folks hate them, but as a subie nut I obviously have a different opinion! I'll post a pic when I get the chance. Daniel
  19. Good work! Hope all goes well for you! I love my ej brat. Getting on the frwy is always so much fun now. Going up hill accelerating in 5th gear is a blast. Good luck and keep the pics coming! I'm thinking of starting another ej swap project too. We'll see... Cheers, Daniel
  20. I'd say definately get the whole car. I went that route and sold enough off the parts car to pay for most of the swap. Plus it was fun chopping up the carcass with my kid and a sawsall. My box of misc nuts and bolts got restocked too. good luck Daniel
  21. Alrighty then, if I see a deal on a donor candidate I'll let you know. I got my donor car right up by you for $350. I sold off enough stuff to pay for most of the swap. D
  22. There are a couple of other ej swaps that are smog legal here in Cal., plus all the vw ej swaps out there. It can be pretty time consuming, but there is so much good info on the usmb that anyone who has the time and mechanical skills can pull this off. Good luck to you. Daniel
  23. Hey there: I used a 93 legacy engine in my brat. My brat is often in Berkeley if you want to check it out send me a pm. Its alot of work, so I wouldn't call it a breeze, but I did pass the smog ref. I would recommend you get an entire car as a donor and keep everything from the engine bay and the exhaust system. Good luck. Daniel
  24. Hey Brian: I suggest you buy yourself a bellhousing adapter. Hang it up in the garage and stare at it for a while. If you decide not to do the swap then sell it and get your money back, and otherwise, you can say you've started your swap and then we'll all chime in and motivate you to get it done. You have to spend some money, but if you get lucky and buy a whole car for the swap you can sell enough to pay for much of what you need. GO FOR IT. Ok, get a job first I guess... but then go for it! Daniel
