  1. Ok so this post did not render much response in the "shop talk" forum, so I figure it will generate more here. I am trying to do some legitimate evaluation/research on Jackmans. In particular 14in flat spoke. But also Jackmans as a whole. I am going to add one more question to the original four as well. Thanks for all your help in advance Just doing a little personal research, for my own personal knowledge. Below is the original post, save for the "5 part question" it originally said "4 part question" This is going to be a 5 part question. Who here owns Jackmans? Who here owns a set of Jackmans? Who here owns 13inch Jackmans? Who here owns a set of 14inch Jackmans? What is the estimated value of a set of good condition 14inch Jackmans? Set = 4
  2. I think you did the right thing on both accounts. You did what you had to do, to get you down the road, and you also fixed the problem properly when you finally had the chance. Next time take it to a quality welding shop and have it TIG'd on. MIG would be ok, but for a part like that I would definitely TIG'd it...it would be better then OEM then.
  3. Yep, found it that way. On page two second picture/s down on the left. I was using "lifted subaru" Bummer he sold it. I hope it went to someone worthy, and not some punk that wants to feel cool about himself by driving a car like that. And is just going to go and out and trash it, and not appreciate it for what it is. Just out of curiosity how much was he selling it for on CL?
  4. I thought it was funny how it said "Toyota boxer" on the intake cover. But what really pisses me off, is they (both SOA and TRD) make a cool looking car and then stick the "dinky" motor in it. They could have at least put in the Turbo motor. But I am sure they are testing the consumer market, and then will offer a GT or something like that with the 2.5T motor and other go fast goodies in it.
  5. I'm gonna print these off and give them to my old boss. He owns an independent Honda shop (yes I work/ed there) And to one of the techs...he is all Honda all the time..like we are with our subies...I always used to get crap for being the only suby guy in the shop...but hey, it was (and still is once in a while) a job.
  6. I googled and couldn't find it...where did you find it?
  7. Dude you found my car. Where did you see it. I sold it to a guy that was on this forum goes by the name of RSTI I believe. He lives/ed in Salem Ore. I built it about 3 years ago, and sold it two years ago...with the intent on building a different project...still waiting on that project to happen. I sure miss her, but man its great to see it on the road. I never heard from the guy I sold it to, so thank you for making my night, and probably the rest of next week. The quick and dirty run down is: 85 GL Wagon 5 spd D/R 6in BOSS lift EJ22 conversion Rear Disc conversion Power steering conversion and of course lots of custom work to make it all come together for what you guys see. Here is the BUILD THREAD on it. Here is some "final" pics just before I sold her. Man I sure miss her...maybe I'll build another one again.
  8. On my 86 BRAT R & R both front cv axles with NEW not re-built ones. R & R new front rotors. R & R new front pads. Test drove, now my hands don't shake/wobble on the free way, and my teeth don't chatter when I stop Finally figured out a center cap for my 14in Jackmans...will post when I'm done with them.
  9. Did a Weber conversion on it. Blocked off the EGR, took out all the evap/vacuum line crap, took off those stinking exhaust riser things, and re fabbed my exhaust to clear the cross member again. All that's left on the engine is vacuum for the brake booster, the distributor advance, and one for the heater controls. Also re-did the pcv system, but be careful on this one, because if you screw it up, you screw you engine up.

Then set my timing and tuned the carb in, re-checked timing. Drove a couple hundred miles for break in, and then re-checked my timing and re-tweak the carb a wee bit.

    Hope this helps

  10. carquest stuff is pretty good, especially if you go with their world pack line...its OEM stuff with out the suby badge on it. What I do is order most of my stuff from here its all NSK, NTN, & GMB which is all suby stuff...once in a while I get a crappy belt, (as in no marks, or poor quality) and will toss it, and buy a suby belt. Some times the belt marks will be a tooth off in one direction or another, so then I have to do the whole tooth count thing, but it still works. I buy their engine re-seal kits as well, but ditch the head gaskets and buy OEM ones. Still the price of all the other stuff including the 100 bucks or so for OEM gaskets is still no where what it cost to buy it all from the dealership. Also try these: Timing belt pro Import Experts hope this helps
  11. Yep they are 14's which is why I jumped on them as soon as they were offered to me, I wouldn't have picked them up if they were only 13's. I saw the "J" in the spoke, and the tire size and made a deal. Especially because they have BRAND new tires on them. I'll Post some pics later when I go out in the shop to work for a bit.
  12. Well maybe I don't have flat Jackmans...I am not very savy with the Jackman line. But I can tell you that the tires on them are 195/70/14 and they look like this so what ever those are, is what I have. Thanks for the link and I will look around some more. I think I have some old center caps from my Superior winter rims, that are larger in diameter because they mount from the back side of the rim. They may fit that way as well on the Jackmans. I was really hoping to get the suby center caps...to keep the "original" look, to the BRAT. But oh well.
  13. So I just picked up a set of 14in white flat spoke Jackmans (came with only one month old tires on them too) for my 86 BRAT and I am looking for some center caps. I know there are some original ones out there. But what are you guys using if you can't find any...is there any aftermarket ones available. And Yes I did a search on here first before posting. Thanks Mugs
  14. Have you ever used one that is "3 times as much" Trust me it is like the Snap-on logo says "There is a difference." Especially if your welding for long periods of time, or doing alot of TIG work. Given the nature and amount of welding your brother does I would recommend THIS HELMET Grantid I am partial to Miller and use them for 99% of the time for all my welding needs. And currently A-L Gas (I think they have one in Kenewick too) are have a huge sale on helmets. If you really want to treat him to a killer helmet, pool in with some other family members and get him THIS ONE. it is the cadillac of helmets. Unless you bump into industrial...but that is a bit over kill. Have fun shopping.
  15. Ignition relay...IIRC its on the left hand side, above the fuse panel. Its a PIA to get to...they should be mounted on a bracket. One is fuel (green) and the other is ignition relay (black) replace that and report back.
  16. domesticgaskets is really good as well. And I think their prices are less. I actually use domestic gaskets 9 out of 10 ten times, great stuff...I do ditch the HG gaskets when I buy an engine kit, and buy OEM ones, but it is still saving a ton of cash compared to if I was buying it all from the dealership. I also use OEM water pump gasket instead as well. Just my .02
  17. He is not a very technical driver to say the least. Seems like he just loves to power through everything, instead of trying to pick a line and drive through it.
  18. I'm in Spokane, and I'm a "suby tech" as well. I tried Pm'ing you but couldn't. PM me you contact info and we can go from there.
  19. OEM suby gaskets only...save yourself the head ache...Sometimes saving a buck isn't really saving a buck after all. And make sure your using brown seals and not black... Brown ones will be marked NTN, NSK....blacks are generic, and will leak right out the gate sometimes.
  20. 1986 BRAT HLA EA81 Weber DGAV 32/32 EA81 5spd D/R EGR ports blocked off All (and I mean all) emission crap gone. Straight exhaust going to a cherry bomb in the back (sound nice and rumbly) Highway 29.6mpg at an avg of 70 mph In town about 24ish mpg
  21. Yes it is. I was being a dumb a** and thought I could skurt around it, and then I slipped right in and it was all over. Slambed it into 4lo and made it half way through before I got stuck all the way. Two toyota trucks with drivers saw me do it. Just sat there and stared at me. I get out ask for a hand and they both give me excuses of why not. 1. My throw out bearing is shot and I don't want to risk it. 2. My hitch is real loose and would rip out. Then they both get in and drive away leaving me there to freeze. Montaru had to drop what he was doing and come pull me out with his big ol dodge cummins.
