I'm looking at the 07' Impreza Wagon, and trying to decide, wether the WRX or 2.5i are the best for me. I drove both and like the power of the WRX, but the suspension beat me up. I have muscle damage from a chemical exposure injuy that damaged my muscles and Everything else. The 2.5i was easier on my bod, but maybe a little more power would be nice, though not driving a stick in 25yrs, and not familiar with the car, I probably could have chosen gears better in the 2.5i.
I am not averse to modding things in the future, and I might not see the need even with the 2.5i with my physical limits, since my reaction times are slower, but would like something that would be easy to mod IF I decided to.
If I got a WRX, I'd be wanting to Soften the suspension, and I Don't like the hood scoop. I don't like the look, and it affects my view. I don't like anything, even odd noises interfering with driving. I would want a FMIC if I had a turbo.
Been trying to find out the difference between the 2 motors, and was only finding compression ratios. Then I found 2 Dune Buggy sites that use the motors, and they were saying the open deck block can be taken to 300HP adding a turbo, as long as boost is kept under 10psi, and Seems to say with the Stock pistons. One fills the space between the sleeves and outer block, and makes it a closed or semi closed deck, able to take even higher power.
Was reading about head gasket leaks in Stock motors. Subaru is said to fix it with stop leak, but there is one type of leak that is external, and one internal. Late models are said to have an external leak. One guy claimed air in the cooling systen can cause hot spots and warp the heads, causing the leak.
It sounds like except for the closed deck, and lower compression, the WRX had the same strength pistons, rods, and crank as the 2.5i. Subaru won't tell me. Would be nice to have the closed deck even in the stock 2.5i. Might avoid head gasket leaks, unless air and hot spots are the cause, but even so.
Don't want to buy something it would be harder to mod later, or more expensive, but not knowing what I may want in the future, and like I said. I'd be wanting to change a WRX, softening the susp., and moving the IC, makes it difficult.
