98 legacy outback dohc. this is the answer I got from exedy. I really don't want to spend 200 on a new subaru flywheel. any other brand recommendations? Matthew, Thank you for your interest in Exedy products. Unfortunately we do not offer a flywheel for your application. The FWSBL01 is for the 2.2L non-turbo. *** Sincerely, Evan Cline Technical Coordinator-Aftermarket http://www.exedyusa.com 800-346-6091 ex633 734-397-6633 direct

if it was the speed sensor the check engine light would eventually come on and you could pull the code confirming it. might have to pull the instrument panel apart and take a look but it's pretty straight forward, just look for all the screws on top and bottom. i've personally never heard of just the odometer stopping. heard plenty of cases, including my own, of both going out w/ cruise control as well. good luck.

grandpa's triumph tr6 was close to $7000.00 for a proper paintjob. almost 10 years later it's still brand new looking though. (just told this included body work and sourcing a few panels but still a lot of freaking money)

So I am looking for an entire Exedy clutch kit with flywheel. I have found a few vendors online that have both for under 300 dollars yet they don't specifically list a 98 legacy outback as a compatible vehicle. From what I am guessing many of the 2.5 liter engines and trannys used the same clutch and flywheel. Can anyone confirm this for me? The Subaru part number for the flywheel is the same for a 98 2.5rs and the 98 outback as well. If anyone has any recommended vendors that would be helpful as well. I was thinking this one: http://gripforce.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20_38_224_225&products_id=427 The product description is wrong but I called and the part numbers are correct. (oh, and the vendor didn't even know the answer to my question) My flywheel has been resurfaced twice and from what I've read it's time for a new one now. Thanks for your help.

i have a 98 and i feel the same way. it could be due to the fact my struts are so old but ive looked at the rallitek sway bars as well. ive changed the two struts that have blown with used ones so im thinking it could be that some new struts will tighten things up but ill probably end up buying the sway bars if that doesn't completely remedy the problem. my commute everyday is on long windy country roads so i know your pain.

amen to that. ive had a 98 2.5L legacy for 7 years and it hasn't been perfect but overall it's been a great car and ive had some huge hurdles to jump with it but doing one thing at a time and prioritizing your repairs keeps everything manageable. ive had to put a new engine in and reseal the beast but it did get done and today i enjoy every drive with it, hydraulic clutch and all! the only car that hasn't given me ************ is my 93 legacy.... knock on wood. man i still wish they made cars as bulletproof as those things.

questions about subaru 1600
afterbang replied to afterbang's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well in the past you firmly talked me out of the 84 gl turbo wagon idea and your comments on this one seem like this is a bit safer of an idea. like you were saying, i just want this to have for myself and weird obsession for older subarus. thanks again for your input and ill take some pictures of it the next time i get a chance. -
questions about subaru 1600

it is a 1980 DL. -
i have a family friend that has a subaru 1600 4wd wagon. the car is in absolutely beautiful condition cosmetically and i went out on a limb and asked if they would ever be interested in selling it. they said probably within the next year they would be willing to let it go and would let me know so i had first grabs on it. the oldest subaru ive ever owned was a loyale when i first got my license and ive only had 2.2 and 2.5 liter legacys since then so i know nothing about these cars other than that it looks awesome. is it impossible to find parts for these 1.6L subarus? would it ever be possible to put an ea81 in this if i ever needed a new engine? anything i should be concerned about with these older subarus? the car runs great and has been taken care of its whole life so i don't want to pass up a chance to buy an older subaru that i can just adore and drive every once in a while. any help and insight would be greatly appreciated!

just replaced the shifter bushing on my 98 legacy outback. put everything back together and i didn't notice how that spring went back in there. on one end the hook of the spring is longer. does that matter what side it goes back on? on the loop hole that is connected to the stay rod, does the spring hook go through the inside or outside of the hole? does any of this even matter? i got the spring back in there (pain in the rump roast) but wanted to make sure that the spring didn't need to specifically be put in a certain way. it's obvious how it goes onto the plate because there is a groove but i can't tell for the other side, its kinda tight in there. thanks guys!

abs light or parking brake light? my legacy's parking brake light was doing something very similar when it was about time to change the brake pads. light turned off completely when i got around to doing it. i added brake fluid at first and that turned the light off for a bit but eventually it came back on.

I don't know if it is worth the time and effort to do this but you should file a lawsuit in small claims court. curious to know if the driver was cited/arrested for DUI. surprised you are in such good spirits through all of this. i would be so ridiculously pissed off if i were in your situation. i don't have full coverage on my outback but it sure makes me wanna look into uninsured driver coverage! or even better, try to get onto the people's court or something and then you would be guaranteed payment.

that thing is epic. congrats on the purchase, i am more than jealous. -
in your rs2.5 post you ask the question about if the knocking would only be present if you were to give it some gas. when my rod bearing went out on my dohc 2.5, the knocking was present even at idle and got louder and faster with higher rpms like you are experiencing in your first video. ive heard only my outback and a friends subaru have rod bearing failure and both sounded an awful lot like what i heard from your engine. i am not an expert by any means but that is just my 2 cents concerning your issue. i wish you all the best and that is a total bummer if that is your situation as ive been there and know the feeling. if worse comes to worst, you can always find a donor block and get that car up and running again.

hey everyone. i just replaced the right rear strut assembly on my 98 outback with a complete assembly from a 97 outback. was a pretty straight forward process, bled the one caliper and everything feels pretty good. i am getting conflicting information from searching the threads about having to get an alignment now. is it really necessary to get an alignment when you replace the entire assembly out with a used complete? i have some good money in my tires that i just got for some gt rims so i dont want to ruin them. if i need an alignment should i first put a few miles on the car before i take the car in? can you get an alignment for just one wheel? thanks for any and all advice.
