  1. all good advice, will go over a lot of this with the shop next week i agree emily, not overly fond of az even though i live here, but this heat is hell on the cars and it does not help that my older mother is not good about taking car of cars, does not know much about them and does only short city trips with it, taking a toll on the car have a lot of stuff to go over on it with subi worx next week, anyone ever used that shop? it has good google reviews....
  2. i agree, dont use autozone for anything the car is 2 hours away from me, so hard to do much with it i plan to go with the car monday to get the timing belt replaced and discuss all this with the shop, no reason they cannot check charging system etc will fill everyone in on what fixes the problem
  3. just saw my mother and she said the sometimes the car is fine and then sometimes she drives it somewhere in the summer, parks it for an hour or two and then comes back out and the battery is dead somtimes it will jump and sometimes it is so dead they have to take it to autozone and charge it for a few hours it has doen this with two different batteries it seems to be an intermittent high/fast drain what could be getting stuck and drining a battery that fast? coil??
  4. yes on the battery and knowing my mother she probably bought a cheap one lol interesting about the jump starting having more amps etc will see what the shop comes up with, just wanted to have some ideas or if it was something easy and cheap i could change out myself may not be quite hot enough here for it to mess up, but wont be long
  5. lol, unless the starter is on the top of the motor somewhere, very easy to see etc my mother is not going to whack it with anything she is not at all mechanically inclined i considered the starter issues also but does seem weird she says as soon as it is jumped it starts if i had it i would just start throwing parts at it, but she is not like that hopefully subiworx will be able to replicate the problem and figure it out i will reply back with the solution once it starts acting up and they see it, wont be long, getting hot here
  6. interesting on the wrx, i will ask the subiworx when i have it in the shop next week about that on this year and model
  7. great, thank you will tell her to have the shop check the bearings at each oil change
  8. unfortunately i am not driving it so hard to get really detailed info my understanding is it acts like the battery is dead but then will start fine whne jumped battery is only a year old and supposedly they checked the wires/connections etc last summer when it was doing this where is the solenoid located? and interesting thoughts about the coil pack too
  9. any thoughts on this would be great gave this 1999 legacy 2.2 to my mom a few years ago she lives in phoenix, az this past summer she said as long as she parks it in the shade it starts fine if she parks it in the sun it will not start , has to be jumped and then will start and run fine swears if she parks it in the shade it has no problems.... it has zero problems in the winter, starts fine every time wondering if there is a relay, etc close to the top of the motor that might be affected more by the heat build up... the car will go to subiworx in phoenix as soon as it acts up again , but thought i might see if there were any suggestions here thank you
  10. lol, ok so from the little bit i read sounds like a pita job and a little pricey to have done even at an indie, right?
  11. curious what schedule the wheel bearings have to be repacked on/adjusted or is this even something that can be done on a subaru? or are they run until they go bad and replaced? doing searches brings up lots of threads for replacement but i am not finding any on repacking/maintenance
  12. reposting this under a different topic title needing the maintenance sched for 99 legacy 2.2 air filter, fuel filter, trans filter/fluid, brake fluid, power steering, diffs and things like repacking/adjusting the wheel bearings etc etc i have the 60,000 mile timing belt so getting that done this week any help would be great, thanks
  13. ccr built this motor for me 7-8 years ago i checked with them and evidently i have the 60,000 mile timing belt so it is definitely due, my mother does not drive the car much so that is good, but sure it has hit 60,000 by now i did all fluid changes on it 3 years ago and am guessing she has put 25,000-30,000 on it since then took it to subi works in phoenix for fluid changes and they did some of them, for some reason did not do others... but it will go back this week for the timing belt and will have them do the other fluids need the recommended change intervals for all fluids spark plugs/wires, repacking bearings, any other adjustments etc i have been running all diesels now for a while and i dont even remember everything she needs to be doing to this car, totally forgot the timing belt until last night
  14. i gave my mother this car a few years back and want to make sure she is keeping up with the maintenance, does anyone have anywhere to download the owners manual in a pdf? and does the owners manual list the recommeneded mileage on changing filters/fluids/packing bearings etc? or did this come in a different pamphlet? also what is general costs at an indie to have the timing belt repalced on this car? think it is probably due thank you
  15. after how many miles does the timing belt and water pump need to be replaced on these, i am hoping it has not had a lot of miles put on it while it was down there
  16. sorry, no issues that i know of car has been in alabama with a friend driving it for 2-3 years, getting ready to drive it back to arizona and want to make sure everything is in good shape just prefer to work with someone who only does subes if possible
  17. i just took my 99 legacy to my mom in alabama, eli here in tucson practically built that car from the ground up for me, it has everything on it and i want a sube person to work on it it has 2 in scorpion lift springs, kyb outback struts, large tranny cooler, running synthetic in trans, bigger tires, new custom built non intereference motor from ccr, steel braided brake lines , hawk brake pads, etc i want this car taken care of by someone who knows what they are doing with subes if anyone has some suggestions for a mechanic it woul be appreciated thanks
  18. i have a 99 legacy and i put kyb ob struts on it and just added 2 inch scorpion lift springs, also have the tallest tires that would fit the front tires are now sitting wider at the top and narrow at the bottom and the car does not seem to be driving quite right, do the kyb struts have any adjustment to them? i was thinking this was a pretty straight mod and it was ok to do these 2 things without anything but it looks like it may be a bit much for the rest of the legacy suspension, can others that have done this fill me in on how theirs went
  19. did the ob come with either 15 or 16 inch wheels or only 16 and will 16 in wheels from an outback fit right onto my 99 leg? thanks
  20. i have a 99 leg--not outback that i want to put bigger rotors on , i does not brake well, when i bought rotors and pads this past time we had a very hard time finding the right ones for the car, all the part places pulled the wrong ones it was weird, has anyone else had that problem? anyway can i put outback rotors on this 99 and do i have to swap my 15 in wheels if i do? thanks!
  21. hey i do not like the brakes on this 99 leg, i think somethng is not quite right with them, i have the kyb ouback struts and the biggest tires i can get on here plus i am trying to get the 2 inch lift scorpion springs, my boyfirned think the bigger tires without bigger rotors are part of the problem too anyway i am looking to put some decent upgraded bigger rotors and stuff on here, what does everyone suggest? or are the outback rotors bigger but would fit? thanks for any suggestions and help!
  22. i am not having very good luck with renick motorpsorts , is there anywhere else to buy the 2 inch lift springs by scorpion? or are there some other lift springs i can buy? thanks
