  1. Need a drivers side window for the XT, some hooligans smashed it out. Help?!? Oh...and I"M BACK B*****S!!! Now with ER27 pWr!!! (long live the RX/II *sniffles*)
  2. What happened to the XT6 website?? Can't find it anymore
  3. I went back to check on my still non-running 88 RX today, and....she's gone. Apparently between Christmas Day and now the apartment complex she was parked in had her towed. As she wasn't yet titled or registered, it'll be a nutroll trying to find where she went, let alone pay for the impound fees. So the old-school Subie chapter of my life is now over. Drat...and I had a new engine lined up from Attarco for her. I'll just get an SVX instead
  4. from my '88 RX:::: Front speaker system: standard, 'modern' wiring Rear speakers: common ground i just ran new wiring under all of the trim and carpet and rear seats to the speakers i put in the back.
  5. i did the same when i swapped a KA24DE throttle body from a 240SX onto the CA20E engine currently squatting in my '87 Nissan 200SX. i simply ran the inlet and outlet hoses together, bypassing the TB altogether (had no choice; though i live where it gets cold and wintery, the damn outlet elbow on the KA TB faced to the rear and couldn't be turned....). has caused no problems through a year and half.
  6. That was the issue I remembered: the rear LSD. Which yes, the RX has. So I should be fine being towed all 4 on the floor then. Good! Thanks guys.
  7. Is there anything to fear in towing my '88 RX to a new 'resting spot' so I can work on her using the "buddy with a truck and a tow strap" method? She'll be moving no more than 4 miles; the center diff will be unlocked (solenoid is blown, can't lock it up anyhoo), and the high/low lever will be in neutral. I'm just worried because I seem to remember someone saying it would burn up the front and rear diffs if it gets towed, but I don't feel like paying a tow company with a flat hauler $100 to do so.
  8. Anyone know the dry weight of the EA82/EA82T engine, minus tranny?
  9. Does the ATF trick work for worn synchro's too (those that often buzz or grind as you shift into gear)? On my Nissan 200SX, getting past the 2nd gear synchro and into gear is sometimes a nightmare, depending on what rpm and how quick you try to shift, 3rd gear synchro is starting to develop same problem, and on the Subie 3rd is also starting to protest being shifted into on occasion. Keep in mind, they all do get into gear, it's just that they grind first.
  10. lol, that would be hilarious with the appropriate amount of tasty beverage involved. if you need help get ahold of me, I love tearing into engines...only way to learn. I think I may just go with a full re-ring kit on mine to be sure it's properly fixed for the winter. they're only about $230 or so from what I've found so far.
  11. nor was it i, as i'm also down in the Springs....and my RX has acute-coolant-in-cylinder disease at the moment. j2coe: you mean there's actually more than one down here?!? the one i picked up was the first i'd ever seen around.
  12. You have to be leery of anything through the dealer. Parts, labor, even something as silly as a hat or tshirt..........they are the most expensive people I've ever seen for anything. I always recommend the dealerships as your very last resort-only go to them if you absolutely can't get something somewhere else.
  13. Removed the one remaining sparkie, pulled coil wire (and ign/fuel/ECC fuse to be safe) and bump-cranked her a few times....of course, coolant went about six feet into the air everywhere out the drivers side haha, all over my 200SX (..silly, should've thought of that and parked further before cranking). But can't seem to get ALL the coolant out of poor #4 cylinder in that manner. At least doesn't look like it, it's damn hard to get a light down in there with all the accessories still in. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Conclusions? Voodoo spells? Oh, with the plugs out she did spin the crank quite easily with no odd sounds, so I suspect no damage to the valve train or rotating mass. I'm a pessimist so it's hard for me to believe that it's as simple as the intake gasket.
  14. Well Mike, I have no idea what they're worth on the market, or more importantly to you....send me a PM then. If it's many Ducats, I may be obliged to wait awhile as I need to get the RX running again first before Old Man Winter stomps on us.
  15. ...would really like to get ahold of one in PDF.... *sigh*
  16. well, there went that.....the n/a XT with Spider has been crushed and disposed of by the yard since my last visit. now i must start all over searching for one. damned procrastination!!!! :-\
  17. Since I'll be having to remove my intake mani to do the gaskets anyhow, I may finish pulling the Spider Intake from the XT down in the pick'n'pull. Before I do that though, I'd like to know what kind of improvement does the Spider supposedly give an EA82T? If there really is no noticeable improvement (power, response, etc) I don't think it would be worth the work to pull and install.
  18. How is that engine from CCR working for you? Not that I've ever heard a single bad thing about them, I'm just a curious type and would like user opinions...they're less than an hour from me and I may lay on a rebuild from them.
  19. Thanks guys, actually makes sense now. I'm leaning towards intake mani gasket. To answer a few other questions, a) she ran up until i shut her off that first time; rpms were dodgy in neutral, but ran. shut her off quick. when i tried to start her again, it was only for a second-had white steaminess everywhere in the split second. b)did not try to viciously restart her when i discovered she wouldn't turn over. as soon as it wouldn't, i stopped....one thing, my RX is a brute and would start IMMEADIATELY everytime, one turn of the key. so common sense said don't push it. c)no telling about 'original'. i just got her a few months back and haven't driven her that much (no tags). i do know the simple stuff like valve cover gaskets and such were redone, as well as new t-belts, but overall it looks as if the engine needs pulled and a reseal done-TO MY STANDARD. looks very backyard meknik ATM, and i hate that. i'll keep everyone updated; if anything at least it'll provide me the fun and more learning opportunity as i pull it apart. good thing i have other cars. and still waiting on a call back from CCR Engines, i may get a rebuild as a backup anyhow. but i think now i will keep the RX, despite it's problems.
  20. took some time today to go over to the RX and start investigating it's catstrophic (?perhaps) failure yesterday (was too late in the day for it yesterday). here's what i've got, and what i think. opinions of "those who know" appreciated..... 1)timing belts intact, tight, were replaced only 150 miles ago. check. 2)after sitting over night, still no sign of coolant mixing with oil on the dipstick, or in the radiator/surge tank. check. 3)inspecting underside, no noticeable cracks or leaking coolant on heads and block, except a few drops on left side exhaust mani bolts. check. 4)get to left side rear spark plug and *voila* cylinder is full of coolant. ergo, why smoke shot out of exhaust, and why it will no longer crank over (water does not compress). so, does it sound like i'm relatively saved, and will only have to do a full reseal job, the head gasket failing being the obvious thing; or does anyone think the heads are scrap? remember, at no point ACCORDING TO THE TEMP GAUGE did she actually over heat. and she stopped spewing coolant-laced smoke within a minute of her being shut off yesterday. i just find it kind of odd to have a head gasket completely fail so quickly, with no warning signs prior such as a few days of smelling coolant or seeing white smoke in the exhaust.
  21. Well, I think my RX has bit the bullet. I checked her over and then took her out today, she was running great. Got in a little highway time too, still zero problems. As I'm backing her into her parking spot for the night, I notice some white smoke coming from under the hood. Kill the engine, pop the hood, can't really figure where it's coming from but seems it could be near the turbo. Smells of coolant, but don't see any drippage. Check the temperature again, she's not anywhere near to overheating, odd.....Go to fire her back up and that lasted, oh, less than three seconds; she SHOT white smokiness straight out all over the engine compartment, AND out the exhaust. Crazy noises accompanied for that brief moment. Head gasket? Or something far worse? Opinions welcome. Now, after that, there is a little bit of puddling of coolant, either side of the block but worse on the turbo side.
  22. Just went over yesterday and checked on my '88 RX (it's been parked for about two months) and ran her for awhile and such. She is now ticking badly! I am wondering if this truly spells *DOOM* or if I can just change the oil and use a bit Lucas in the mix to quiet it back down? I'm assuming it's the HLA's making the tick, my old Nissan did the same when it got cold out, but can't be sure without tearing into the engine. Also, what's the weight of oil that would be recommended for an EA82T w/145k miles on it, at 6000+ ft altitude and temps dropping down from the high 80's?
  23. wholly wow, batman.....i think that i'll go the Rustoleum route on my Rx! that turned out very very nice, it looks (in the pics at any rate) as good as some certain big-name auto manufacturers factory jobs. for roughly $50, i'd say it's well worth it. my question about it though, is: how is it over non-metallic bits? i would consider doing this also to my Nissan 200SX, but the front and rear bumper-covers are plastic and i'd worry about flex cracking.
  24. There's a meet on the 29th? Hmm, seem to have missed the posting, have to look for it. A/C is definitely preferred on those days when Mr. Blazing Orb has been cooking the interior and you go to get in~especially when your system still has a full charge of R12 in it like mine That's really about the only time I use mine actually, I just don't like to run all day with it on for some reason. But it's still very nice to have to get rid of the oven that the car turns into after sitting out in the sun for any length of time.
  25. Yes, I realized my error on the hp figure afterwards. I was thinking that the most feasible idea would be to make a custom manifold and make it single turbo. Hmmm....now to find the $$$$$ eventually. But first, let's blow up the EA muah-haha-ha!
