  1. Thanks grossgary and everyone else for the good advice! I was able to pick these up today in Bremerton. Same color and year, so its the best I could ask for! I got to try and figure out some way to pop the door open without destroying the trim panel.
  2. So, here is a picture of the B pillar. It looks pretty darn unscathed to me. The fact that the doors opened before is promising too. I am leaning towards keeping it and trying my best to get the door to work enough by pushing the dent out. However, I can't get the front one to open again. The lock seems to be jammed. Any ideas how to jimmy it open? Thanks!
  3. I'll take a picture of the B pillar when I get home, but I didn't see any damage to it. I wonder if I should take the money and sell it. Do you think there would be much interest here, whats it worth? I would keep it if I had a garage to do these things. I bought this primarily with plans to do an epic road trip in a couple months and be headache free, oh well!
  4. here are pics of the damage and the car. Its really not that bad, no frame damage just mashed up doors. The rear still opens, the front did once then the lock mechanism jammed, so I haven't forced it out of fear of not being able to close it again. Does that change any of your opinions?
  5. Hi everyone. I'm looking for general advice here: Here is my sad story. I bought a 1999 Subaru Impreza OBS with 182k miles 1 week before a college kid decided to t-bone it in the parking lot of my gym. I was super pumped to get a nice, clean 1 owner vehicle with all the regular maintenance and records and no accident history. Both passenger side doors are dented in, so with the estimated repairs they have deemed it a total loss. In WA state the insurance agency is required by law to report it as a totalled vehicle which will brand the title if I choose to keep the car and take the settlement. They have offered $5321 to me if I give them the vehicle or $4344.58 if I keep it. Any suggestions? I'm basically unsure if I should keep it or bank on finding a nice replacement. Thanks, Chris
  6. Here is an Autocheck: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B6rKTJS5gHbkNmxxdHFLUXVJX2M cheers!
  7. Is the special valve tool a 5 mm /12 mm combination? I've seen in other posts that it may be a 6 mm. Which is it? Here is the tool I am referring to: http://www.handsontools.com/Schley-89700-Subaru-12mm-Valve-Adjustment-Wrench_p_6518.html It would be nice to get one of these if its the right size.
  8. Apparently, Autozone has been out of stock for these or the vendor has stopped supplying them. I just ordered one at this site: http://www.autopn.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=8662 It doesn't say that the brand is CGK but the SKU matches so I think its the same axel. I'll let you know when I get it if it works out alright. Also, anyone live around the Wallingford/Seattle area that is knowledgeable in changing front axels and willing to give me a hand?
  9. What are the lift and rims/tires on that badass 82 hatch?
  10. I just bought a 83 GL D/R hatch and I want to find out more about lifting. Can you guys post some pics to show off some of your lifted hatches? Also, if anyone is in the Seattle area and wouldn't mind showing me your ride sometime let me know. Thanks!
  11. Yeah, sorry. I am looking at an 84 brat turbo. The ad said that it had an ea82 engine and I had asked if he did any engine work or modifications and he said no. So, I am thinking that he just got the number wrong. From the pics the car looks like it is good shape, but I am concerned that as a turbo it will be hard to maintain or have overheating problems. Any thoughts on turbo EA81s in general? In the long run, if I bought this Brat I would like to replace the 3at with a D/R manual. Is it a simple bolt in for the comparable 4sp D/R of the same years? I know theres more involved, but I have read that a 5sp D/R is the way to go and I am wondering why this is if it requires some serious modifications. Does my question make more sense now? I appreciate the help
  12. These are supposed to have the EA81T, but they have an automatic single range transmission. Does anyone know if its an easy swap to put in a D/R tranny? Also, any thoughts on the turbo engines? I hear they overheat easily, but if thats the case has anyone heard of an EA82t in a brat? -- Just found a thread that explains the tranny swap: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67990&highlight=ea81t+ea81
  13. I got in touch with the guy and I'm probably going to check it out this weekend. I'll get in touch with you when I have figured out when exactly... Anyone else spotted other Brats for sale?
  14. Frank, that would be really cool. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Thanks!
