Old gas - what really happens?
The Dude Abides replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not exactly 12 years but i would leave my 73 monte carlo in the back yard during the cold months to keep it out of the way. It had a half tank of gas every time. Every spring the thing would fire up with no problem. Ok say ive got a couple of lawn mowers that might be like this. Is there a way i could just clean up the carbs or do i need to have them rebuilt. Ben -
im getting ready to order some brakes for my 88 dl 4wd. Im curious if theres an easier way to explain to the parts counter on what i want. Let me explain. When i was looking for plugs and wires for my car someone told me to say i had a 1994 subaru loyale 4wd. They told me that it gave the people at the parts counter less confusion. I dont want to end up with ea81 parts when the whole thing has been tore down already. Any help would be great in the next 30 minutes. Ben

Congrats and good luck. We just celebrated my daughters 3rd birthday on the 16th this month. Were doing the potty training nightmare. My 2 littlest are 8 months old now, man they grown up fast but the cuteness doesnt wear out. -

what is the size of these 15 buy 6 or 16 buy 7 Just curious if the wheels jut out. IM not so concerned with the tires because i would be running low profile tires on mine, but im curious if you didnt have the big wheels on it would the rims stick out from the car. Ben

where the pin stripes are. paint the upper half red and leave the bottom white. I think it would be a good contrast. Ben

Just sumptin real quick. Was driveing home this morning and started hearing this whumping sound. I pull into the driveway and its replaced buy a huge howel and smoke. I was like nooooo. Pop the hood and i can touch cuz its hot. Cuz its a subaru ya know. Anyways the smoke clears and the belt for the ac snaped off phew (hush mick). So i didnt notice anything but the ac pully and a tensioner running off this belt. Is it ok to leave it off or is there something i havent noticed in the midnight air. Ben

The Dude Abides replied to Keiji22's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yea i thought thats what they would be you nee to take a hose and hose off all that crap on the bottom then run your engine and im sorry to say that when you are checking out the engine check around the heads on both sides. Im sorry to say but the turbo engine is brone to head gaskets im affraid. Clean the bottom if you see nothing at first check out the heads. Ben -

You might be hard pressed on finding answers today with it being the 4th and all. If your absolutely positive its these lines and not the head gasked then keep searchin till you can pull them off. Are they just rubber lines or are they compression lines. Ben -

The Dude Abides replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
See connie your like me. As long as ive got it apart i might as well replace it and save me some time and trouble latter. Sure the old one works kinda but i want new so i dont half to rip this thing apart. Thats why when i do brakes i do all 4 corners pads, rotors, and whatever kit. Ben -
Rear speakers in a Loyale Wagon?
The Dude Abides replied to McDave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dave Since you have a later model gl i believe the speakers go to the rear doors but there hardly base makeing material. only bout the 6 1/2 at the biggest. lotts of people put in a sub box but its exposed to anyone who walks buy and sees it. You might be able to custom make a box and fit it into the rear tool box area. I havent seen people put speakers in most of the places your talking about. the previous owner of mine had some installed in the rear hatch. It didnt weigh them down to much. Im fixing my interior so i havent gotten around to reinstalling the speakers but im sure itll sound great. Ben -
WCSS10 Location and Date Set!

I had thought about trying to attend this at some point but with gas the way it is i dont think i might ever make it out there. Thats quite a drive for me. And i dont think the ole girl would make it. It would be an interesting trip though. If i had some buddies to tag along with it might not seem so booring. Ben -

The Dude Abides replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Also connie just remember if you get stuck, this is not your daily driver and your not up u know what creek. Plenty of people on here and willing to make the journey to help you. Since youve got it out why not do a whole reseal job but again thats just me. I noticed alitle oil on your valve covers. Woudlnt be a bad time to do some maintence on the old girl with the heart out. Be patient itll be fine. Ben -
EA81 Head gaskets..again?
The Dude Abides replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i understand keeping it stock but (not to be mean) this car isnt going to fetch the same bucks as an all original 57 Chevy. I say upgrade the cooling system. Maybe go 2inch rad if u can squeeze it in there, new water pump. Keep the engine nice and cool and it will be happy and less worrysome on your part. Nice cooling temps for lots of crusin. But thats just me. Ben
