The Dude Abides replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

This sucks (Crashed Subaru)
The Dude Abides replied to one eye's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
junk it what. 3/4 of that car is ok. I can understand you dont want to drive it on the street so dont. Deditacted trail rig. Still runs and drives. Pull out the front a bit, replace the radiator. Mount some off road lights on the front and youve got a running driveing, already beat up trail vehicle. All you need is the lift. Ben -
Better wheel
The Dude Abides replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the ones im looking at the guy is selling them for 50 bucks with tires but they dont look like stock wheels. They are chrome. Ben -
So im in the market for a wheel upgrade and ive got a couple local choices. Which would be better for my non offroaded car. Lower profile tires would be put on them Toyota 16x7 wheels tacoma or Mazda 14x6 wheels b2000

i guess it depends if its more of a low profile street tire keep them in. But if there mud or heavy traction tires keep them out For me it relly depends on how much sidewall there is. For example. on a 255-60-15 tire id keep them out but on a 215-55-16 keep them in. No point in having ity bitty white letters showing when you can have big honkin letters lol Ben

The Dude Abides replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i looked at the back at it was the rear drum setup -
so im going to the bank today and i spot this subaru ea82 sedan. I wasnt intrugued until i saw the gl10 badge on the trunk. I was like score, this thing is beat up i coudl use the lsd rear and the rear disc parts. I scoot over to it and its beat up, rusty dents and whatnot. But i look inside no 4wd button or dual range shifter. Then i look under the back, no rear dif. I was like what the hell:eek: . I thought all gl10s were 4wds. Am i wrong on this Ben p.s. i cant be sure on the year though but it was an ea82 sedan with manual tranny with the gl10 badge on the trunk

lowering my EA82 FAQ
The Dude Abides replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You need to change your thing from ej addict to suspension master:) Yea im going for more cosmetic then actual use. That is why i wanted to keep as close to stock components as possible. I might just try to swap the top hats over and see what that does. Have you played with the ford tempo, honda accord spring thing floating around here. Ben -

I think ive found the culpret. Now ive read in here about when you do a waterpump its pretty involved so if im gonna do it im gonna do it all 1st Where can i get the waterpump cheeply 2nd Im not going to change the timeing belts because they were changed about 10thousand miles ago or so. 3rd Does anyone have a spare set of timeing belt covers they want to give away. Mine have holes in them. 4th I should also do the crank case gasket, oil pump gaskets, and i might as well flush the whole system while im tearing stuff apart right. 5th Ask McBrat my engine looks like the exon valdiez so are there any other gaskets fairly close to that area i should replace as well while the whole front of the motor is tore out. Any other tips or suggestions will be apreciated. This will be my first time really diging into this car so i would like any help i could get. Thanks Ben

Coolant Leak
The Dude Abides replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that stinks man. its to bad you werent close to connie she had an xt6 she was just parting out with a good motor. I had my oil changed a couple days ago and i said look for coolant and they found none. Im sill leaking a bit but im not sure where its from. I think mines a waterpump gasket but i cant be sure. If i tear it off ive got to tear off a bunch of other stuff which means i might as well do a bunch of other stuff and so on and so on. Ben -
hella are not street legal sir:) your not going to see down the road you would like to if you get the pencil thin ones, might i recoment sylvania silverstars and having a set of hellas as your alternative lights. sylvania silverstars are much much brighter then most stock units without changing over electrical things for hid. I have them on my car and there brighter then my stock brights. And they give off a hid look. Very bright white. Ben

Coolant Leak
The Dude Abides replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok what do i need to be checking if its a manifold gasket or a head gasket. I dont have any smoke and the only indication that theres even a problem is this coolant leak. I know ive got an oil leak but i dont know if theres oil in the coolant. I need to change the oil or check the dipstick. Ben p.s. ea82 fuelinjected -

Coolant Leak
The Dude Abides replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok i just went out to check everything out and i cant find anything. There is coolant leaking im pretty sure of it because my overflow bottle was empty and the radiator was 1/4 low but beyond that i dont know where its leaking. I let it warm up for 10 minutes, didnt see anything coming out of the block, I squeezed the hoses and nothing leaked. When it was warm i didnt see anything coming out of the radiator, i was pretty sure i was looking at the waterpump and i didnt see anything leaking there either. Any suggestions. Ben
