Many of you may or may not know but my wife was in the hospital for almost a month now but she just got out today which is nice. But the story isnt there. Since was sick i decided to drive her minivan to drive the 3 kids around because hey thats what i bought it for right. Superbowl sunday i go to the local wallymart to pickup a few things while i have some free time away from the kids. It had snowed alittle but didnt look slick. So i turn on a curve going bout 10 and just kept going strait. Ramed into the curb with the wheel fully turned to the right thought i dont know if keeping it straight would of made much difference. Smacked the curb bent the rim, popped the tire and sent it up into the fender destroying the fender. Snapped the crossmember in half riped the power steering and break lines off the hub and snapped the cvshaft from what i can see. I had to wait an hour before i was towed while almost being hit several times because my car was hanging out in the road. Now i told you that story to tell you this one. It was and is time for guido to step into the sunlight. When my wife got out of the hospital i was like your learning to drive a stick cuz this is all we got. She tried and did a fairly good job but in the process of her learning the clutch gas thing she killed it several times now it is really hard to put it into any gear. I still can do it but its different then what it was before. Also something for everyone to think about. This is our only vehicle now and its not to terribly safe to drive but i realized that i could fit all 3 carseats in the back. Its tight but were a cozy famliy lol. Ben

That was great for some reason i think that that is goning to be sang at the next subaru meet. I have found that people are very cival here. They go out of there way to help you. Hell i had a member give me parts because she was worried my tire was going to fall off. Since i havent driven my car much latelyl its not a problem. Great community and although there tired of it they will answer a question you asked when its just as easy for you to do a search. I asked this question this last summer when i first joined in. In time you will see. Ben -

Rain gutter trim?
The Dude Abides replied to Crawler 65's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have been debateing this. I have an 88 dl with the rain gutter trim and its all bent up and scratched. I have been wanting to take it off but am leary of what it will look like underneath. So you say y dont you just take it off. Well the thing is i have bad carma i mean REALY bad carma. If i take it off and dont like it i wont be able to get it back on i know i wont. So just curious of someone has done this before and has some pictures of it. Just a thought Ben -

Definately swap interiors dude yours is thrashed. But and i dont know you from the next nancy of paul here but here it goes. Its probally a daily driver and you might not care but why not clean up the inside a bit. I dont see any broken windows so ive got to wonder why theres still glass on the floor. I dont know about you but if something is disorganized in my life things just dont feel right. Just my opinion though. Good luck and let us know hwo it goes. Ben -

The Dude Abides replied to Durania's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
U know funny thing i had that delema today also. 20 minutes to warm up the subaru, or 5 to warm up the minivan. Warmth prevails over cool ride any day of the week. Ben -

Maybe someone can help me with this. I have no muffler and its alittle loud. Now i tried to see about betting one at teh parts store but im not buying 40 bucks worth of muffler. I guess what would keep it fairly quiet and be cheep enough for me. Just suggestions Ben

Ive noticed lately that my car is harder and harder to put into gear. yes the clutch is all the way to the floor but even after its warmed up it takes a bit of effort to put it in there. And its a fairly new clutch. Also maybe its related maybe its not but the thing seems to be fallin on its face lately. Sometimes i half to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running till its warmed, other times i dont. Sometimes i let it warm up and can take off like usual. What ever power is suspost to be there its there. Other times it feels like its bogging down, falling on its face. I go from first and its ok then suddenly when i go to second theres no power. I have new plugs and wires (ngk). And i have cleaned the maf. Any ideas. Ben

1988 gl value
The Dude Abides replied to silverracerkh2005's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think you put into it what you want to. Lord knows people have told me not to put money into something. But the thing is that it ment something to him. What if one of your family members that was near and dear to you was dyeing. And the doctor said well there to far gone better just let them go its not worth it. The point is it is worth it to them. If i had the money and that was the car that got me through the rough times i would do exactly what he did. Thats not to say that there wouldnt be a porsche parked next to it. But i would do it up with imprezna sti gear and make it something really neat. Dont flame a guy because hes passionate about a car. Ive been hearing about the 73-77 monte carlos my whole life. Just because it means nothing to you or its not worth it doesnt mean its nothing to him. Cant we all just get along. Ben -

something loose in the front end
The Dude Abides replied to goatman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What your describeing sounds like the problem i have. The only word to describe it is sloppy. When i drive my car and hit a bump the front end seems to slop around. When i jacked up my car and took a look i could see the lower ball joint slopping around in the hub so there was my answer. Thats the only real way to check it is to jack it up and try to wiggle the wheel around to find the culpret. Ben -
na no cherry bomb. I want quiet. Schhhhhhhh i can pickup a turbo muffler for cheep and have someone weld it on. Ben
