LOL nice dennis -
Well sure young to a guy whose got 2500 posts lol. I remember that day because i offered to help. Driveing snow, 50mph winds, -20degree temps. Ive done that to where i tried to see what my truck could do only resulting in me walking to a buddys house to help me get it out. Yes a live and learn situation for sure. But its over and now its nice weather so lets try again on the mud run brent. Ben

Correct me if im wrong gd but i thought they changed the body style version to gen 2 in 81 but kept the gen 1 drivetrain. Thats why it was so hard to find liftkits for them.

What is with you and no doors here lately man. -
I run anco on my subaru and my wifes minivan. Kinda crap on both and ive had good luck with them. Im not sure of the brand but a friend of mine at work as a set of frameless wipers on his suburban. He swears buy them, saying he never has any streaks or problems with them breaking. There pricey though i believe.

How much you guys think it worth?
The Dude Abides replied to vincentmoy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
To be blunt, No. Im sorry i picked up my 88 for 400 in perfect running condition. The AT is really going to kill you. They are prone to failure and they really wrap up the rpms when doing atleast 65 or so. You have certain issues that you coudl probally address here. Why are you wanting to get rid of it. If you address the oil issue you could definately get more but honestly i think with the problems you have and with the AT. Your lucky to get 700. But thats my opinion. Buy the way, pics help. -

LOL were glad he made it and again it sounds like hes just used to haveing more powerful cars. Sadly these are not, but he does have a nice rust free looking GL. Yes on inclines, large ones you need to downshift. But like others said on here he needs to bond with the car. Hell figure out all the quirks and whatnot. Have him get his own screenname and join the board. We can help him along the way. I like his wheel setup it looks like mine. Ben -
What are the best front brake discs?
The Dude Abides replied to jackbombay's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I recomended the rear disk swap because it sounds like because of the steep inclines he faces daily hes useing the brakes alot. With the back brakes being drums and somewhat flawed and inferior. I suggested going with disc brake swap because he will have less wear and tear on his front brakes doing the job buy themselves when he has a good set of rear disc brakes to help along and disperse some of the work. I never feel the rear brakes on my loyale grab its always the front. -

Ok just simple things, Pop off the line going to the fuel filter. Does the gas flow good, then pop off the line after the fuel filter is it still going good. Then spark, maybe his disty is on the fritz. If hes getting good spark from the sparkplugs then the disty should be good. Buy the way we need exact info on the car. Is he looseing any oil or coolant. When have the timeing belts changed (though i dont think thats the problem.) Others will chime in as well. -
Exhaust cutout
The Dude Abides replied to Caramanos2000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
LOL if you want to do cheep for a truly rice sound take off the muffler and have them weld a pipe in its place. I have no muffler on mine and its a nice balance of good sound and not to loud. Some people on here put glasspacks or turbo mufflers but if you wanted to go cheep and uncomplicated just hack off the muffler and put a strait pipe in its place. -
91 Loyale 48Kmiles and a few ?'s from newbie
The Dude Abides replied to dtrentr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I find this kinda funny, being leary of replaceing a Japanese radiator with a chinese one. Anyways sounds like the only sucky thing about the car is the auto tranny. If you do some searches on here there poorly made and make the car really rap out in the rpms. Do a coolant system flush. Flush the heater core and all the engine, get that 18 year old coolant out of the thing. When you are doing this check for missing fins in your radiator. When its runnign do you have coolant leaking from the front of the motor as well. Oil leakes tend to be the valve cover gaskets but there are others. Its usually the valve covers first. (i find it odd i give this advice when my car pukes oil and coolant on a daily basis.) I dont know if i would bother giving the thing a tuneup. Ive got 200thousand on my distributor and its still running (kinda). -

I find i recomend the rear discs to more people which just screws me in my effort to get a setup for myself:confused: -
Better Braking plz
The Dude Abides replied to Caramanos2000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I understand what you want to do. If its what i think you waht. You want some cool looking rotors to show off to your friends, or something cool to brag about your car. I promise you you dont need it. Drilled rotors crack and slotted are unnecessary because you cant possibly build up that much heat. Make sure your calipers are taken care of and mastercylinder is top ed off. Keep your system blead and good on pressure, and swap to rear discs. Those things alone will help your car stop faster. Again im not makeing fun of you but trust me your going to impress them with your 4wd ability then anything else. -

From what i hear, Drilled rotors tend to crack. If you do go a route like this you want slotted. As far as brembo brakes go you know they are good. But im not so sure how much price difference there is between the brembros and the duralast brand. Also, because you have an ea82 i was told that the rear drum brakes arent really much use, kinda like 90-10 distribution. It you went to a rear disc conversion which would be more like a 60-40 or a 70-30 type of brakeing system you might get some stress off you front rotors a bit. Most people on here notice a difference when they switch from drums to discs in the rear. Just something to think about. -
Kinda get whats comming to you. I dont care if its any piece of garbage i have its getting out that day. And if you are in the northwest the land of subys you bet your butt someone stripped the good parts off your abandoned car. From what your first post said you werent going back for it anyways. Good luck with any new car you get. P.S. are you planning on getting the remains out of the woods, because if not tell the people on here and they will get it for you and keep it for themselves.

need info on a suby gl 10 turbo
The Dude Abides replied to mcttexan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No we dont know what youve done to your car already. LOL kidding. Lots of info on here. I can tell you off the bat (because ive got spare time). The 1.8 gl turbos are finikey. They like to be run cool. If they overheat you run into all kinds of problems. Keep your cooling system at perfection level and you shouldnt have any problems. You might have disc brakes and a LSD on your car which are very desirable and awsome to have. If you have a working digital dash your good to go. Posting what year gl10 you have helps also. What we all tend to agree with here is if you dont have pictures of your new ride its pretty much worthless to uss, we need more juju to drool over:slobber:. Tuneups, stick to alot of oem stuff for the most part, these cars like them better. NGK wires and plugs, Oem T-stats, Make sure to replace your timeing belts because they tend to fail, but its a non interface engine so if they do your engine wont be ruined. Have i covered everything fellas. -
