a good person to look up conversion is numbcuxx or something along those lines. He has done lots of trial and error stuff on his GL wagon. I believe he did alot of engine and suspension conversion along the lines of what you want. I believe he made his awd as well. He is in the retrofitting forum alot. Ben

want some help, im kinda bored over here. -
I say do whatever you want to your car reguardless if makes sence or not. I would do 5 speed only because its more fun to drive. Ive had my eye:rolleyes: on this legacy tubo ive been wanting to swap the whole drivetrain into my loyale. But thats a while off. I say do some more searching and see what you come up with.

First off, welcome to the USMB. 2nd this guestion probally would better be suited in the new gen section. 3rd. Any free car is a deal. If you could score a gas tank from a junkyard and install it youself you would have a decent running car. There are lots of upgrades you can do to the imprezas which you can find out about in the new gen section. Around here guys take newer gen stuff and gut them out for there ea82 off road rigs. Ben

Id think you would need to take it apart to know the extent. Does it run and drive as it sits.

Lights on stock bumper?
The Dude Abides replied to Caramanos2000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
anyone ever try putting them on the bottom side of the bumper. I know the 6 inch round ones woudl work but how about some 4x6 lights. Ben -
most people who get these vehicls and find out about them either want to lift them, or lower them.

so what are you. You an up guy, or a down guy.

Welcome to the Board You can always do a SPFI engine conversion. If you dont want to wait for that other engine, you could always find another one. They can be had for dirt cheep. Ive seen 2 in the parts section go for 150bucks or less. And depending on where you are in the country, you might just get your choice if you visit the local wrecking yard. As long as its not a turbo the lower end of these motors is the same. Just the induction system was changed in 88 to FI for the ea82 stuff.

How do these do in an offroad situation with the lift and big tires. I only ask because i know the ea71 is very (lacking) in power. Andi think it should be heading to wcss11. Hint Hint -

Ok so someone offered to give me a vehicle. Now you say, take it. Well i had a truck sitting around here for a while and it just sat because i didnt have time for it so i sold it. This vehicle needs work. It does run and drive just badly. Its a 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. 4wd High and Low. Now its not practical to drive this because it sucks gas. I mean i think normally it gets 10mpg i think. Now it gets 2. I have worked on this before so i know what it needs. I dont know how trust worthy i am of these goofy 4wd engagement levers, seem to want to jam up or break in my hand. I guess what im asking is that do these make decent wheelers. I can get some larger wheels and tires for it for free and im pretty sure i can fix what is wrong with it. I guess is it worth it to even take this thing and make a wheeler out of it, or should i have the guy just take it to the scrap yard.

a sad day 01/03/09....
The Dude Abides replied to ()__1337_CRAYOLA__()>'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im sorry for your loss. It seems like the car absorbed the impact well enough but at those speeds when its 70 vs 0 you cant really compensate for that. Best wishes to your friend and his family. I to dont drink much because ive seen what a tole it has on peoples lives. -

No House For the Suby
The Dude Abides replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Kinda hard to pass up with what the house actually is. No contract is signed, or an offer is even made. But the wife and i really like it. Just the no garage thing sucks. Ive lived without one for a few years now and to be honest i really dont want to do that again but in this market, at my pricerange. It seems like the houses with garages have major problems inside the house. This house is remodled but no garage. I guess pick and choose your battles. After all guys lets face it. When it comes down to it your gonna spend more time in the house than in the garage. Atleast i will i have little kids. -
Kinda bummed, the house i was wanting to build a garage for had mold in the basement. So we found another one which is awsome. Nice Floors, granet countertops, totally remodled. No garage, no room for one. Not even a shed. Everyone else seems to get what they want but me.
