Good news, the sedamn idled across the yard lastnight, roughly a slow walking speed. All I had was a kill switch walking next to it. Started it in gear, lowest range. I need to plump up coolant lines, electrical, clutch and throttle and choke. Im going to use the hood release as the choke cable. Ill have to pin the hood as there is no hood latch anymore.

32's ST1100 engine swap still under way. 5" lift from Bill. Other stuff.

Look what Santa left next to the dumpster!!!! I went in and asked if I could have it and the shop owner said Merry Christmass its yours. Its even all aluminum. I strapped it to the top of the rodeo with a couple of shirts and some jumper cables. Motor mount finally done, looks like something out of Mad Max for sure. And a few pics of why I havent done anything to the car...

Blizzard of the Century

Its just cold, cold, cold, here, about 0-10. Sucks. -
So would you say a welded diff is worth breaking a axle for the added traction. Im still torn as to what I want to do with the sedamn. I have a welded diff sitting in the garage but not sure if i want to swap it. If swapping it means im going to break a 100 dollar axle everytime I wheel that would get old i would think. Yup still torn. I also have to factor in the terrain. There is not a lot of mud out here mainly rocks. Well maybe ill just have to swap it and see.

Bad News, no progress other than a few bends in the front motor mount. 10" of snow on the car didnt help either. But I did get my house addition prepped for hardwood floor:banana:

Man, you guys are quick! No slack around here! Ok, im back from the honeymoon and tomorrow im going to build the last (front) motor mount. I think im going to have to hook up the oil tank, top off the oil and coolant and take her for an idle. With no power brakes, clutch will be under the hood and no throttle cable what could go wrong. Im shooting for a video by the end of this weekend.

Is that a Bed Frame? I spy bed frame ends. Dont worry I use bed frames for a lot of stuff. They are cheap if not free.

Thanks for the feedback. R2D2 is pretty darn close. Its very tempting to fill up the float bowles and idle around the yard to see how well it works.

Made some great progress this weekend. I still need to finish up the front mount for the engine. Wasn’t really to sure on what the plan was but this is what I ended up with. It should be very strong and I won’t have to worry about it. The exhaust is going to be fun. That’s the next major fab step. I need to buy some metal and some exhaust tubing. Since im getting married the 7th it will be a few weeks till I get to that part.

Cool, i digg it. Talk about spinning on a dime!!!!!

Here is the latest. Ive got the motor mocked in place, most of the front end removed and the ST1100 to subaru adaper plate built and coupling shaft. You can see the large pulley on the adapter plate, im going to run another alternator on the car cause the ST alternator is 200 bucks new and it doesnt put out many amps. Im sure your thinking how is he going to change the belts? See here, should be fun to test out and see how well this setup will work.....http://www.marineengine.com/products/accessory.php?in=18-5948 The air cleaner is going to stick out the hood at least 2", should look even more Mad Max like.. Enough talk here are the pics.

Yes it is! Wedding planning and being sick slowed things up a bit. Its going to be nice here tomorrow and ill get some welding and grinding in. Ill have some pics for tomorrow for sure!

Justy Motor to Loyale D/R Transmission
bigo1966 replied to Little Bandit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Put a motorcycle engine on it. -
Here is the plan. Ridgedly(is that a woard??) mount transmission to engine and have engine sit on another set of stock engine mounts. From what ive gathered the trans to frame and engine to frame have to be the same material, engine to trans ridged. Thanks everyone.
-
Cool. I really cant wait to see how this works out.
-
How are the vibrations in the car?
-
So im in the process of hooking up the ST engine to the EA-82 transmission. Im trying to figure out if I should ridigly mount the trans and engine or have them on rubber motor mounts.. i.e. rebuild the trans mount so they are solid and the new motor mounts so they are solid. Or use some existing motor mounts that I have in the garage to isolate the engine from frame/car and ridigly fix the ST engine to the trans. Keep in mind that its baslically a divorced setup but my adaper shaft does not have any u-joints. Splines from ST output shaft basically welded to the splined shaft in the center of the subaru clutch. I hope you can follow that and i really need some input. Orion

I like the subarus cause they are different. I dont really care for off the shelf stuff and bolt it on. The sedamn looks sick with 32, its not another sami or jeep. Im guessing that the splines on a VW CV dont match up to the splines on a EA-82? Or what about 930 CV's? I might be beating a dead horse but its my turn to beat it!!! Good news is i started to put the ST1100 motor in the subaru. Im having to cut most of the front end off then ill rebuild it like the buggyroos or something.
-
Well once I go through my 2 rear diffs and all the rear axles I have stocked up I might do what SJR is doing with his solid rear axle. What about the datsun diff and axles with u-joints? Arent those axles stronger? Is there a swap for us to that rear end and those axles?
-
Bring up an old post. What part of the axles break the most? What about the stub shafts on the rear diff. Im trying to get an idea of a 90:1 low ranged subaru and welded rear end what im going to break the most. This way i can plan for the next upgrade.
