  1. I can't stress enough how important it is for you Not to mess with that "idle adjust screw" with the white paint on it. It's not a idle adjust screw.
  2. If the follower has a flat spot worn into it already,it may cause problems. If you can't detect any wear on the follower with your finger, you should be fine.
  3. Don't even try the job without getting some of this stuff. Available at any parts store. Put a good amount on the ball pivot end of the HLV's and some on top of the valve stem. Hang all four rockers and be percise when you go to install the cam tower. Have a coupe of the tower bolts handy to get them started. Take your time. You don't want to do this part twice.
  4. Same here. POR15 was the first stuff I used of it's kind and I was impressed with the results. I did a truck frame and it came out Nice. But,it was very expensive. I can't speak on the longevity of the product because I never seem to hang on to any vehicle for very long. But,I can say that it went on very nice and it hardend up the rusty areas. Because of cost, the next frame I did,I used Rust Bullet. It didn't have as nice of a finished look as the POR15,but it seemed to do the trick on the rust. And,it cost half the price of the POR. Now,I use a product called Zero Rust. It cost about $60 a gallon, and works as well as the Rust Bullet. If I only was going to buy a pint or a quart,I would probably go with the POR. It is a good product.
  5. If you have money to spare or,your really anal about changing out parts, then replace everything on the front of the motor.Except the oil pump. You can just re seal that. About $20. If you leave the timing belt covers off,you can easily replace/maintain your motors front components when the time comes. The first thing I do to any ea82 engine I have is pull off the timing belt covers and leave them off. I go as far as pulling the cam pullys so I can get all the timing covers off.
  6. Hey! This just happend to somebody else's daughter. Check the rotor hold down screw. You might find it laying in the dizzy somewhere. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=110658&highlight=daughter
  7. If nothing else works, replace this sensor. It's a Coolant Temp. Sensor. Located under the thermostat housing. A faulty one will cause bad idle and other problems. Get a few at the wrecking yard 'cause they are kinda spendy new.
  8. Hi JesZek! Good to know your still breathin'...I think I read on here you had computer problems. Hopefully you can get another PC up and running soon. How's the "Warrior Wagon" doin?
  9. Yes...You can run around in rear wheel drive. It's not a problem. Some members say it wears out the rear diff which was not designed to be used that much.Maybe it does maybe not but a couple days sure wont hurt anything. I ran a hatch around in rwd for several months. No problem. I pulled both axles and used a sledge hammer and eye protection to seperate the axle stubs from the rest of the cv.
  10. You would be better off finding a low mile 90-94 legacy 5 speed wagon AWD. Expect to pay 2-2.5K (at least in my area) for a really cherry one. Save the rest of your money for something else.
  11. I know..I should change it. Mostly I just want to remind everybody in Seattle that the Mayor up there is firmly behind the road salt campaign in Washington State. I cringe everytime it even snows a little 'cause out come the salt trucks.

I can't imagine a world without affordable old vehicles.

  12. I know where one is in a parts car for $100. But,you gotta pull it. The good thing about that is,you get everything you need.
  13. Wait!...I thought we were talking about switching out a push button 5 speed for a D/R 5 speed.
  14. A 5 speed D/R from a '85-8? GL would be,for the most part,a direct bolt in swap.
  15. Timing belt jumped some teeth would explain the popping. And the no start.
  16. I don't know about the Forester. The ebrake system may be different on that. But,on the '83 GL,the ebrake only locks the front wheels.
  17. Rear wheels on the ground.Front wheels on the dolly.Ebrake on 'cause on that rig,the ebrake is only on the front wheels.Tranny in neutral and front diff in front wheel drive mode.
  18. It'l tow just fine on a dolly. Ebrake on and tranny in neutral.
  19. They wont ship um.I tried that. I'll see if I can find the ad.They gotta still be there.I mean, not too many people looking for that tire in Florence,I'm sure. I'll check on the ad.'

  20. It's been said that worn engine/tranny mounts wear out new axles prematurely. But,if yours look Ok,I wouldn't spend the money.Besides, they'r expensive. A good wrecking yard item.
  21. I don't think they are sold that way. At least, none of the common national chains are selling them.
  22. Get the empi's. The price is a little high, but only by a few dollars. And yeah,23 spline.
  23. Nope. Stay away from turbo axles. They are different
