Do you have a radiator flush kit? The kind that you splice inline into one of the heater core hoses? I would be for flushing the engine cooling system and radiator and stuff. You don't want or need that chemweld stuff in your engine. Sounds like your doing some good work.

I just might hit you up. I have two.Need a couple more. This guy was willing to sell the whole car to me for scrap weight. But I didn't have my trailer and I wasn't going back. Besides,it was a runner with a knock. I probably would have kept the thing and tried to fix it. I'm glad I didn't go down that lonely road.

I thought about that on my long drive back. Thanks for confiming that, thou,Jeff. I'm sure I'll run into the situation again.

'87 Turbo wagon 5 Speed question.
markjw replied to markjw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks. Fixed it. And thanks for the other info,GD. Saves me a bit of a drive. -
Thanks guys..I knew I'd get some genuine sympathy here. I guess the worst of it is over now. I know where a peugeot sedan "yard ornament" is right here in Olympia. Been there for years. I stopped and asked about it once. I kinda got brushed off. I'm going to give that another shot. Maybe this time he'll call the cops.

Hopefully it is just a hose. Yeah, some pics would be helpful.

Did you guys know that you can't fit 13" steel Subaru wheels onto a Peugeot car? I didn't. But,I learned the hard way. Long story short, after a few emails, setting up a time and date, coming up with a set of subi steelies with tires on um, and driving a million miles, I had to walk away from a pristine set of eight spoke alloys with near new 205/60r15's. A CL deal gone bad. I had the sedan up on a jack, one wheel off and the friggin subi wheel wasn't going on. For one,the brake caliper was way too big. And,it looked like even with the caliper removed, the brake rotor was going to be too big. I think I could have mounted the subi wheels backwards, but the guy wasn't having it. That part kinda sucked 'cause in the beginning he just didn't want the car to not be able to roll. I think I could have got it done. But,I didn't get the chance. Anyway. I just wanted to pass that info on in case someone else was gonna go rescue a set of pugs from the crusher. Don't take Subaru wheels and think your just gonna do a simple wheel swap. In the end,the car went to the crusher.

If you put some kind of block sealer in there and it worked ( I use the word worked very loosly here) than I would think its gotta be a small leak. I guess that stuff would seal up a cracked, external water line, but I would think its prolly something else. Cracked head? Did you have the heads pressure tested when you did the head gasket job? How did the valve adjustment go? Sounds like your at least driving it now.

I'm wondering what kind of 5 speed came in the GL 4WD Turbo wagon in 1987? Is it the standard Hi/Lo 3.9? Will it have the 4WD shifting lever like in the other non-turbo wagons of that era? Or,is it a push button single range 4WD? Thanks.

Yeah. A wood burning stove raised up about 4 feet off the deck so you dont have to break your back to load it up. Weld on some angle or pipe. Whatever it takes.

Engine exhaust port and hose so you can run your car inside. Cinder block structure Outside and up against the bldg. for the air compressor. Less noise inside. One bay with tall roll up doors on both ends so you can pull in and pull out with your boat. You'll never have to back out.

Don't forget the cam tower o rings. One per side. I get um at the dealership. About $3 apiece.

No..The "0" is TDC. The B is for BTDC, Before Top Dead Center... -

Yeah, well, in that case,I'd start with a complete valve/rocker adjustment and I wouldn't start the engine again until that is done. Search the proceedure. You need feeler guages and a 10mm wrench. And the 22mm socket I mentioned. Plus,a spark plug socket. Its tedious work, but absolutely needs to be done and is most likely your problem. Or,at least part of. Man,there's people on this board who are alot better at this than I am,but they ain't around at 2am. Sounds like your in a bit of a jam right now so I'm trying to help you. If you can wait awhile, you'd get alot better advice from a certain few others. The seach button is your best friend right now. But,trust me on the valve adjustment. It needs to be done. -

Is it a hydro-lifter motor,or a solid lifter motor? Did the guy adjust the rockers after he put the valve train back on? The push rods will be loose. Some of them anyway. Others not so much. Which ones are loose and not loose depends on the position of the valve train as it does its job opening and closing valves. -
+1 ^

Do a search on it. It's been explained in great detail here. You will need a spark plug socket, 22mm socket,a breaker bar or ratchet and a 10mm wrench. -

Never mind. You don't have cam towers. I was thinking ea82. -

Did you install a new O-Ring between the cam tower and top of the head? -
Good luck,GD. It sounds like a solid enough plan. I'd like to be able to do something like that, but with kids and all,I gotta stay here. If I threw caution to the wind, left a steady job and failed miserably, that'd be one thing. To take those same chances with kids in tow, that's unexceptable. At least thats how I see it. I have never been layed off so I have to be careful about thinking/sounding cocky when it comes to being out of work. I've never had to deal with it and I know how ignorance can breed arrogance. But, if I was forced into the job market or given the opportunity to strike out on my own, thru lay off or whatever,I think I could make a good go of it. I like the idea that you plan to use this opportunity to prosper rather than survive. Attitude is Everything.

You mean the 36mm castle nut on the end of the axle? I stand on um with a breaker bar and I'm over 200lbs. So,basically,as tight as I can get um. That works for me.

Try the tap alone first. Maybe there's enough at the end of the hole to allow a temp. fix. Find a little longer bolt (10x1.25) than you actually need. After you run the tap in a couple times, see if the bolt will grab any threads at the end of the hole. If it will, just add a couple lock washers on the bolt and use it. I just did this very exact thing a couple weeks ago. It still needs repaired, but it bought me some time and I'm not ruining my new gaskests with a exhust leak. I didn't have a tap, thou. I ground a couple flutes into a used head bolt to chase the threads with. The Kit at the auto parts store was $30:eek: -
Hey Rob, I think thats the sweetest ea81 car I've ever seen. A Rare Gem,for sure.
