A couple summers ago I bought a cheap spray gun ($20, harbor fright) a quart of rustoleum hammer tone green ($10) and a can of acetone ($4). I read the autobody forums for an hour or so,headed out into the garage and just went for it. Yeah,it isn't winning any ribbons, but I couldn't have been happier with the results. I actually just painted outside when the wind wasn't blowing. Away from the other cars. No paint booth or anything.

EA81t front sway bar diameter
markjw replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
0.89 hundredths on the turbo one. 0.79 hundredths on the regular one. I took this measurement off the bar I shipped to you,Steve. By the way,I sent it "standard mail" USPS,days ago. It should be there at your place this week. -
steering wheel
markjw replied to ()__1337_CRAYOLA__()>'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Theres two small diameter holes on the back side of the steering wheel. One on either side of the wheel. You need to put a small screwdriver into the hole and collaps the fastener which will allow you to pull one side away then do the other side. After that, lift the bottom of the pad and unhinge the fastener at the top of the pad. Disconnect your battery first. Otherwise your horn, well you know. -

I'm still not able to log on to the new server with my desktop. The Treo is logging on,but it doesn't "search" very well. I have Rooinator coming down tomorrow to salvage the rear axles from my turbo wagon. Just wanna make sure these will work for him.

Are the rear axles,cv's on my '83 turbo wagon the same as a non turbo? I'm thinking they are,but need to be sure. Thanks.

I had one other 1980 wagon besides the one I sold to ProjectRX. It had the same passing lite on it. Personally,I think out of all the years the passing lite was available, the '80 model had the nicest looking one.Heavy duty lookin' chrome piece with a nice factory blue inlay. Its much more substantial than the one on my '82 wagon which is just a plastic door with a subaru badge glued on. Still very cool.

What the heck? Cars don't last long there. I went back for some parts off a turbo wagon that had only been there a week. It was gone too. Maybe someone bought the whole thing. The engine and 4sd were "like new" clean. Door panels and interior were as nice. You would have had to sawzall the front clip off to get the engine out.

Was over there yesterday. Found one of the cleanest Hatchbacks I've ever seen. Red with tan interior.130k, 4x4,'87, ea81....Looked like someone ran into an elk with it,thou. Smashed from the grill to the firewall. I managed to get the nippon dizzy out, but the shaft was bent. The interior was near flawless.

I think your confusing Rislone engine treatment with Redline shockproof. This thread, at least this part of it, is discussing a cheap alternative to the Scotty's Cocktail.

BUMP noise in rear...What is it?
markjw replied to Born_a_Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had a similar "popping" noise coming from the same area in my ea wagon. Turns out it was the set screw in the torsion bar tube. Here's a link to the thread. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85034&highlight=set+screw -

Hi Turbone, Mark down here in Yelm...I just wanted to say I've watched this whole thing with Connie and her dream car play out for a couple/three months now and it's been a hoot. I'm kinda bummed its over. But thats not what I wanted to say. Um, mostly I just wanted to say even thou I have never met you, I can tell that your a fantastic person and you and several others up your way deserve a huge round of applause from everybody involved with the USMB for pulling this whole thing off. You guys rock! -
Is that just surface rust on the fender, or is it something a little deeper?

clunking/clicking in front after new axles
markjw replied to akloyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I use to believe "if they didn't work, they wouldn't be able to sell them." Well, sorry to say, that just aint so. Buy re-mans if you have nothing but time to switch them out till you finally get one that will last more than 200 miles. My favorite part is when you return the reman'd axle to the parts store counter, and the clerk refunds your money as if he was tying his shoes. Like he's done it a million friggin times. -
Yeah, thats kinda what I was thinking.

I found the Thule one's on CL. Crossbars and all for $40.

Loud clunk *that can't be good*....NOW WITH PICS!!!
markjw replied to pyro926's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had a similar clunking coming from the rear of my ea81 wagon. Turns out it was the torsion bar pivoting in its housing 'cause of loose set screws. I dragged a car trailer clear over to Yakima to buy your wagon when that other guy had it for sale. I gotta tell ya, it was very obvious the thing had seen some vicious air born landings. I seen several bolts tore from the body up forward. So,i'd be suspicious of the rear torsion bar. I'm curios about the steering column. Did you repair it,or does it still flop up and down? That guy tried to tell me it was a loose bolt. I'm sure it had more to do with the hard landings. -
opinion on best 27" tires for 15" rims
markjw replied to True2Blue's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I went to Walmart and bought the Liberators. I absolutly love um. And, there cheap. There hard as rocks and will probably last forever. They are challenging on a Rain Soaked Freeway, maybe even Dangerous over say 55mph. But thats only during the worst kinda rain we get. And only until the water clears a bit. For regular rain and dry pavement, there good. I paid about $270 for four of them, mounted and balanced. The only problem I had is they wouldn't give me the warranty 'cause they are Way out of spec for OEM on an older soob. I wasn't too concerned 'cause there plenty cheap. As far as off-raodability. Alls I can say is they work fine for what I do. Logging roads mostly, occasionally rip thru some mud. I avoid rocks, aways have. -
I ususlly pour about a third of a bottle right into the carb as the engine is running. Slowly so as not to stall the engine. Then at the last I purposely pour alot into the carb to stall the engine. Let her sit for about ten minuts, start her up and go for a really interesting ride around the block. The other two thirds of the bottle goes into the gas tank. This works really good for me. I love the stuff.
