http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/car/494681866.html I know the duel range, shift lever trans is the better set up. The thing is, this one has everything else I'm looking for. How crappy is the push button 4wd anyways? Assuming its everything the owner says it is,do you think its worth considering? Thanks for any advice. I forgot to mention that I know its the push button type 4wd 'cause I emaild him and asked.

General parts buying question...
markjw replied to NV Zeno's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I replaced both calipers on my '80 wagon. I found reman'd ones at rockauto on clearance for $49 per side, loaded. My original calipers were fine. But so was the Hitachi carb that got replaced with a Weber. -
Your only a few miles away. Run over there and offer him $20 for the 32/36 DGEV. Get that front bumper too. I'm tellin ya. He wants it gone. What ever you do,DON'T take it for a test drive.
-
That is without a doubt the same wagon. The air horn is still there.
-
Thats just there for the pic. When I saw it today it was where it's suppose to be. Yea, that would raise some eyebrows around here, too. especilly if it had some gear in it...
-
You mean the lift? I see um going down the road looking like that often. I think our cops are subaru guys.
-
He wants $100 for five allied wheels. (when I first got there) I asked him if he intended to de-mount the rubber in order to sell the wheels seperate. He said yes 'cause he can use the swampers on his YJ.
-
I'm curios who owned this wagon before this fellow got it in a trade. It has USMB stickers on it. Someone here knows something.
-
I had the same thought..But, he was pissed at me for the timing belt thing. The car has other issues. I'm not sure if hashing it out here is appropriate while he has it for sale. Maybe it is.

I'm not bad mouthing the guy but he thought they were Kubota tractor wheels...He's no subaru guy. He got it in a trade..I see he put the add back up. Maybe I should have put this post in the CL/Ebay section. http://yakima.craigslist.org/car/445620528.html

I went to Yakima to buy this today and came home empty handed. Six hour drive. It was all going real well until about four minutes into the test drive. I'm accelerating down a slight hill and she just dies. I mean like the coil wire fell off. I coast to a stop, try to crank for a bit and get out start walking back. (bad idea going on a test drive without the owner)I ask a guy in his front yard if I can use his phone to call my cell that i left in my truck, anyway he gives me a ride back owner says she ran out of gas I say I dont think so we go tow it back....crank crank crank...starting fluid crank some more. a gallon of lawn mower gas into the tank, crank crank crank. pull the dis. cap crank crank rotor isnt turning. Broken timing belt. He gets really pissed ,slams the hood and I'm loosing interest in the whole deal. The reason I'm telling you all this is because the last thing he said as I told hime I was going to pass is "I'm going to part it out" Five allied rims with 90% 29" swampers, looks like allied bumpers front and rear, allied lift, allied front skid plate, weber with a snorkel and the roof rack. I really wanted to make an offer on some parts but like I said he was really pissed at me for some reason so, I left...He was a nice guy up until that point and I checked my email a mon ago and he actually apologised for the situation. Some one needs to buy thes parts...He was asking $1200 for the whole mess. I was going to give it to him. But, I didnt.

Slipping (new) Clutch, Solved...
markjw replied to markjw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The first couple times I was taking everything off the engine. Now, I pretty much pull it whole. -
I've been barking up the wrong tree on this one. After taking back the original slipping new clutch, installing another slipping new clutch, I finally ordered a remaned flywheel and received it today.I could tell the second I took it out of the box that the step was WAY shallower. The machinest who turned my flywheel assured me it was to specks. But, it wasn't. The step is ,just eyeballing it with a straight edge and ruler, at least 1/8th maybe closer to 3/16th of an inch deeper on the botched, resurfaced flywheel than on the new, remaned flywheel. With so much practice, I can now pull the engine out of my wagon in about thirty minutes. Thanks Machinest Man...I want my $30 back.

I just received two Beck/Arnley, loaded calipers from them on the close out deal...Great looking items at less then half the cost locally.
-
yup,stamped steel and blue,also. So,its a OHV then. Thanks....
-
I'm not sure which of the two 4wd flywheels is right for me. (OHV or OHC ???)Maybe someone can take a look at the link and let me know. I have a EA81, D/R 4 speed in a '80 wagon. Thanks. I'm posting from a palm. I hope it works. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=267&ptset=A&searchfor=Flywheel+%2f+Flexplate

Thanks for the Quick response. I'm interested to see what seal they have for me. Suppose to come in today.
-
On my '80 4wd wagon, are the inner and outer, front, wheels seals the same? I bought everything to do one wheel, yesterday, except the inner seal from autozone. (The inner seal had to be orderd, picking it up today). I just removed the two seals and bearings and the seals look identical. Any ideas?

Rear wheel bearing price?
markjw replied to paulpicard's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oops. I guess the fwd has the inner and outer. Here's a link to what you may need. http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=SKF&MfrPartNumber=GRW142&PartType=186&PTSet=A -
Rear wheel bearing price?
markjw replied to paulpicard's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Partsamerica.com is usually really cheap. They want $105 for a set of inner and outer bearings and a few dollars for the seals. -
Whats the deal w/these Catalytic Converters?
markjw replied to markjw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yea, I thought it was something like that. Seems I saw something on the news about them being valuable to certain people. This county is not a smog/deq county. No emissions test so they shouldn't be that important. So long as they dont touch the one on my project car, everybody will stay healthy. -
Well, I tried to move the aluminum fan over in place of the black fan, but its too wide for that spot. It hits the crank pully. I guess I'll go with the black fan right where it is. Is the black fan adaquite for cooling? It just doesn't seem as hardy as the primary aluminum one.
