  1. I agree with cobcob. Take it back and ask that they fix it right. Sounds like it cant get any worse.
  2. I installed the dist. and carb off the ea71 onto the "new" ea81 so as to simplify the vac and elec. hookup. Im thinking you can use any distributor from any EA engine to work with your ea71. But yeah, I have the intake too. Come and get it, Man.
  3. I live in Yelm. Off old mckenna rd. Do you really want it? Your a ways away. I took this pic just minutes ago. Shes waitin' for ya. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/freeforyou.jpg
  4. Dont ever try to tune your engine with a quater tank of 3 yr old gas. Man, I limped her down to Chevron, filled her up and by the time I got home, she was my daily driver. Fresh Gas Rocks. This car runs Great.
  5. Its yours, free. Come get it. Its even got a s/r 4 speed attached to it. It needs a head gasket at the very least.
  6. Well, I figured it out. Actually there wasn't really anything to figure out. I just needed to finish hooking up the altenator. There is a white, two prong plug coming from the harness that needs to be pushed into the back of the altenator. I seen it earlier, but disregarded it. It fixed alot of things. Now that I have it idleing, it really runs kinda crappy. I probably have a few vac leaks.
  7. I jumperd the fuel pump straight from the battery again with everything hooked up and started the car and drove her for about 3 miles.. Runs great and as far as I can tell the d/r 4 speed works fine. I need to figure out the fuel pump issue. It has something to do with the charging system for sure. My battery lite on my dash board is on and I havent checked but I bet the alt is not charging.
  8. BTW, The fuel pump is mounted on the firewall, drivers side, under the wiper motor.Thanks.
  9. I actually got the engine to run, but only by pouring fuel into the carb. For some reason the fuel pump isnt delivering any fuel. I Jumpered it from a ground and the pos. side of the battery and it sputterd to life. I checked the wires coming from the harness into the pump and can find no power. I jumpered it whilethe fuel line was connected to the carb and started the car and it ran at hight idle for a few seconds then died. Like it flooded. Im wondering if the fuel pump runs all the time or is there a regulator that turns it on only when needed? Any ideas???Thanks,Mark
  10. I missed this somehow. And yes, it looks like the hitachi from the ea71 will bolt right onto it and then I can mount it all onto my ea81. Or, maybe the carb thats on there now will be more compatible than the carter/weber. I have read a few threads about removing emissions equipment and keeping the stock hitachi carb. Seems its very doable. For the most part, remove or plug everything except vac. advance, brake booster vac and heater ducts vac.
  11. I pretty much have everything installed except the intake manifold. I thought i might be able to, in order to solve some of my connecto problems, use the old ea71 intake and carb on the new ea81 motor, but as most of you know, that aint gonna work. So, my next thought was to just switch carbs, but they mount up diffrently. I'm kinda stuck. Can i eliminate some of this emissons stuff? The first pic is of the original ea71 carb. The second one is of the ea81 carb. Says carter/weber on it. The last two pics are of things connected to my engine that I would really like to get rid of. Any ideas appreciated...Thanks. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/ea71.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/ea81.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/em1.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/em2.jpg
  12. Thanks man...Ill call around and see about resurfaceing...Man that original clutch is small.
  13. Aaahh...Another snag. I just went to install the clutch kit and it's way too big. Meaning the Diameter of the disk is about an inch too much. I orderd the clutch for the 4wd ea81, but my transplant engine is a ea81 out of a '84 2wd. Can I take the flywheel from my '84 4wd donar car and attach it to my 2wd motor? I'm worried about balance issues...Any advice appreciated,Thanks.
  14. Thanks for thinking about me. I'm thinkin I'm going to have some issues hooking up the electrical. Mostly ign. stuff over by the coil. I can see that the connecto plugs dont quite match up. I'll put the motor in tomorrow morning. Everything else is going well. I hope to be test driving her tomorrow night.. I gotta tell ya. I have been looking at subaru wagons for days and days now and I also think mine is a very nice looking one. It sat for a couple years under a tree down in Lewis county. Needs a serious cleaning inside and out but that can wait.
  15. Hey Caboobaroo, Worked out very well. Thanks. I had to do it twice 'cause the master cyl. rod has to be attached to the brake pedal BEFORE the cluster is attached to the firewall. Also, the clutch cable should be attached to its pedal as well. Much easier that way. I'm going to reseal the ea81 this afternoon, maybe drop it in tonight. You can barley see it in the pic, but this paint job has a really cool pin stripe inbedded in the paint. When I'm done with the swap, Im going to find someone who knows how to ride a buffer and see if they can bring it out more. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/pic2.jpg
  16. Yup. I think that will work. I had to go look and everything looks the same. The pedel cluster in the '84 is much tighter, too. Big Bonus...
  17. I'll look at that closer in the morning. That would do it if it will swap over. Thanks.
  18. The lenght of the cable is the problem. The clutch fork on the old EA71, s/r 4 speed was on the drivers side where as the (new) d/r tranny's fork is on the passenger side. So, the original cable needs to be switched for the longer cable from the '84, but the '84's cable will not connect to the '80 pedel. It will connect to the tranny 'cause it was originally connected to it.
  19. Ive got the D/R 4 speed out of my '84 donar in place in my '80 wagon. I have the axles installed and the drive shaft too. I can see that the clutch cable is not right (too short). I can simply tranplant the one from the donar into the '80 Connecting to the clutch fork is simple enough, but it will not connect to the clutch pedel in its current form. Changing clutch pedels doesnt look like it will work either. Any Ideas Appreciated.....
  20. The only extra axles I had I turned in as cores this morning over at schucks auto parts. But I will have another set soon. That is a good tip, I would have never thought of it.
  21. I got the engine and trans out of the '80. That went pretty smooth. I pulled the good engine out of the '84, fwd. I left in the trans with what looks like a very good set of drive axles,so I can roll it around. I'm now pulling the d/r trans out of the other 84. Im gonna leave the engine in that one but it wont be rolling around once I get done with it. I dont see a way to put front tires on it with the axles removed. That kinda sucks 'cause now I gotta depend on a hulk hauler service to come get it out of my yard. And its the one with the affidavid in lieu of, title.. Installalation should be a snap. The only diffrences I see are in the vac lines, fuel lines, electrical hookups, clutch cable and exhaust. Other than that its a direct bolt in. Hahahahahah. Ill deal with all that when i get to it. First i gotta pull the d/r trans. I would like to keep the parts cars but the war department wont have it. So, when Im done here in a few days im going to have a bunch of Free subaru parts laying around for anyone who wants them.
  22. Mostly just someone who didnt know what they were doing went after the harness with a pair of cutters. Mostly the area around the coil. The coil was missing so I installed a ford coil, used my other '84 as a guide and was able to get it to run. Runs good but the clutch is shot like I have never seen before. The car will barely inch foward and back then stop. And, the key has been by passed. It all works. I dont know what the wall switch does. It wont turn the car off. I had to pull a coil wire to shut it off. Im really fond of the '80. I orderd the clutch. $159 at schucks and got some gaskets too. They'll be here on the 17th. Gives me a couple days to clean stuff up and get ready. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/ign.jpg
  23. Thanks for all the info. Im going to run to the auto parts store and order a clutch kit right now. Maybe some gaskets too. I like the looks of the ea82 mounts. I know where I can get some. Im going to pull the s/r 4speed in a little while. Im anxious to get started. The '84 has title issues as well. I got an afidavid or what ever in lieu of. Also. The ignition has issues but really its in decent shape. Im happy about all the correct console stuff. Craigslist again... $250 http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/c2.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u111/shedmr/c1.jpg
  24. Ive been thinking about that pretty hard. I really like the color of the '80 and it has way less miles. Plus the third eye is the coolest thing ive ever seen on a vehicle. The scary part is that the clutch in the '84 is so bad (slipping) that I cant properly test the trans before I make the swap.
