  1. EA82 Loyale and GL Vehicles When we are talking about 25 spline Vs. 23 spline and Turbo Vs. Non-Turbo are we Only talking about inner DOJ? The tranny end of the axle? Is the outer/hub end spline count on all the front CV's for All the different EA82 vehicles the same?
  2. Go to the off road forum here on this board and see the sticky labeled "OffRoo'd FAQ" Everything you need to know is in that thread. Also, you could post a ad in the Wanted forum and maybe someone will sell a LSD to you.
  3. I used a 3" nylon ratchet strap to pull a subi up onto a tilting flatbed trailer. I didn't have a come-along handy. I got it just almost to that point at which the trailer wanted to level out but, I couldn't "ratchet" anymore. So, of course, I got a good grip on the strap with both hands and pulled sideways as Hard as I could. Then the strap broke. When I woke up, flat on my back, looking at the pretty blue sky, I wondered very much where the subi might have gone. Luckily, it came to rest against a curb about 50 feet away. Now, I use my ratchet straps to secure loose items in place. Thats pretty much it.
  4. I like it. I went over there the other day. They had the attachment for the floor jack, which I have never liked, but they didn't have that. I could use my 1/2" air impact with it and, do the work alone. Nice!
  5. Way easier than bench pressing the tranny. Still takes two people, thou. And, the person running the hoist, from above, needs to determine the accent of the mating surfaces in relation to each other. From underneath the vehicle, on your back, it's impossible. I was Way off.
  6. You guys have pretty much cleared it all up for me. I have a good handle on it now. Thread pitch and bolt dia. I can figure out on my own. Thanks again.
  7. The crank snout is the front end of the crank shaft. It's in your first pic, where #17, "woodruff key" fits into. I'd say by the looks of the diagrams, the crank snout is damaged. But, like GD said. Weld it and grind it. Maybe search the subject on the board here. "Crank Snout Repair"
  8. Absolutely! Are you kidding me? I fully intend to take my EJ22 to a half million miles and beyond. You already have the hard part out of the way. The plastic and crank pully. Pull the rest of the timing components off and see whats up. I can't remember off the top of my head what's beyond that chewed up cog. I think its another key way. The one that actually ruins the crank if it loosens and is allowed to wiggle around. I bet that cog will slide right off the crank snout and be easily replaced.
  9. What a minute. Is that actually the crank or just a cog? Are you sure your crank is ruined? I know the EJ has issues with the crank snout key way eating it's self, but I think it's deeper than that cog I'm looking at in your pic.
  10. Your best bet is to stay with a motor out of a '90-'94 legacy. They are plentiful and cheap. Around here, anyway. The "upgrades" of the newer model ej22 motor are not really upgrades. Added EGR system and it became a interference engine, too. Maybe other stuff that you don't want or need.
  11. Sounds like the choke system isn't working. Look in the "for sale" forum. They're is a guy selling a Weber carb. His price is fair for a like new one. Get that thing! But, you'll need a adapter plate to fit your GL. Easily bought all over the internet.
  12. Thanks for the reply....I'm gonna pull the single range out of this Loyale tonight. I'll probably find some dowels there. If I had the ej motor handy, I could probably figure it out easily enough. Mostly, I just want to know if the fasteners are something I may have in the bolt box or, can be bought at the hardware store. (I don't wanna get hung up in the middle of the install). Sounds like I just need some correct length and pitch bolts. Thanks again.
  13. Also, shouldn't there be some locating pins in the mating surface of this bell housing? Should I get some?
  14. I picked up this EJ/EA adapter plate today in Portland. I bought it from a board member who won it as a door prize at the Stevenson, Wash. WCSS a couple years ago. It's a SJR brand plate. The plate is all I got. My concern is, shouldn't there be some bolts or some kind of off-set fasteners that go with this plate? The "pairs" of holes at 2 o'clock and 11 o'clock are threaded. Maybe I'm just suppose to simply bolt into those sets of holes? I have my d/r tranny sitting on my bench, and I even put the plate up to the bell housing, but still couldn't figure it all out. My EJ motor is still in the legacy w/ a dead auto tranny hooked to it. Any thoughts?
  15. Actually, the '88 GL 4WD 5 speed should also have the Hi Lo tranny. Not only that, it should have Fuel injection. The best two yrs for this model of wagon was the '88 and '89, so long as they are the GL's. The DL's had the push button tranny, but were also FI. All my info apply's to the wagon. Maybe the sedans were different. If it is a '88 and it is a GL with a push button tranny, I'd say it's an auto tranny wagon. In which case, I'd completely avoid.
  16. Have you read the "Stereo Tips and Tricks" forum on the board here? It's in the Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual.
  17. The black wire is probably a ground wire, but that's just a guess. You should not use any of the factory wiring to connect your speakers. You should run your own, new wiring, from the back of the stereo harness to each speaker.
  18. If it were me, I'd get this harness plug. http://cgi.ebay.com/110643202968 You can plug this into the factory harness in the dash, and just tap into the power and ign. leads off of it, to your stereo. Run new speaker wires from your speakers directly into the harness coming off the back of your stereo.
  19. Well, this is the route I'm going. I have the rear end in now. I'll put in the Rx tranny tomorrow. Along with the sub-frame and entire front suspension from the Rx. In case anybody was wondering, the ENTIRE rear-end form a Rx will bolt directly into a Loyale. Thanks for the help, guys.
  20. Thanks for the info, Gary. Actually, when I said the Legacy is a bit worn, I meant that the body and interior is worn. The engine is Solid and the tranny is Solid as well. I read pro and con threads about the FTAWD Rx tranny with the diff lock lever. I'm beginning to think that, for what we would do with this wagon, it would be just fine. I know the Rx axles will physically slide onto the legacy AWD tranny stubs being they are both 25 spline, what I'm wondering is, will they install correctly into a loyale wagon with a legacy AWD tranny swap? The legacy AWD tranny seems much wider than any EA tranny. I'm worried any axle, EA or EJ, will be too long and I will be in a situation where I need some kind of hybrid axle.
  21. I took Numbchux's advice on searching the sticky about who's done EJ swaps, find a combination that I like, and follow the threads about it. I found several builds that included the Rx tranny but none that used the leg. AWD tranny in a EA body. Here's my two options... Option 1 1991 Loyale EJ22 Rx FTAWD w/Diff lock 3.7 LSD 3.7 Rx hubs, knuckles and towers, front and rear Option 2 1991 Loyale EJ22 Early legacy AWD 5 speed 4.11 LSD converted to 4.11 Rx hubs, knuckles and towers, front and rear Sorry about all this craziness. I just don't want to go down the wrong path, especially since I have Everything I need to go either direction. I guess I only have one question now. Which combination is best?
  22. Well, I figured out a couple search words to find info on the RX tranny. Since, "RX" is too short of a word for the search function, it makes it difficult. Anyway, seems the RX FTAWD 5 speed is a bad idea. And, the early legacy AWD 5 speed is a way better choice. I have a '91 legacy AWD 5 speed car that runs perfect, but, is a bit worn. I'd definitely consider using it's powertrain in this loyale. What I'm wondering is, where does this LSD that I have fit in? Should I do the 4.11 conversion on that? Is it that simple? What would be the end result? Would it be street friendly? Also, if I install the front suspension from the RX, meaning 25 spline hubs, can I simply use the turbo CV's from the RX? Will that work with the legacy AWD tranny?
  23. Something else I don't understand. Whenever a conversion is done on a Loyale or GL that requires 25 spline axles, the first recommendation is to do a 5 lug swap. Since I'm installing the RX tranny, can't I just use all the suspension parts, front and rear, from the RX?
  24. This is the complete back end of a '89 RX. I would like to install the whole thing into the back of a Loyale. It looks like it should be a direct fit. Can anyone confirm or deny that? Also, what about the sway bar? Should I leave that on there? Will that still work with the 4" lift, or is it just extra weight? I know all this has been discussed, and I've read up on Some of it, but it's so spread out. Hard to find any specific info. Thanks for any advice.
  25. I work the last two weeks of every month and have the first two weeks of every month off. So, if this event happens to happen in the first two weeks of the month, I'm in. The month doesn't matter to me.
