Too big without MAJOR surgery, period, sorry. Even with a 4" lift, and trimming fenders, it's still gonna hit the floorboards when turning. Prolly no power steering - so that's a wrestling match you might lose. Your 1982, unless it's been changed, will have the smaller flywheel and clutch, and with large tires will be smoked quickly. Most will agree 26-27" is best to still have some drivability, and 28" is a stretch. Sorry to be so blunt, but 30" is just gonzo for a Sube, and that 73 hp will not cope... except enough to break axles before spinning large tires.

Hello All, I have a 92 Loyale 4WD, 3AT. There is a button that I have to press to get the shifter out of park most every time. See photo. What is its true purpose? (anti-theft for the keyFOB impaired?) thanx in advance, r/ PK.

I've only had my 01 H6 LLBean for three months, but I tell you the motor is so smooth you would think it's rotary, and so very quiet. It hauls rump roast when it needs to (or when I feel the need for...), and my combined city and hwy averages 23 mpg, with a couple trips at 25mpg. Timing chain supposedly maintenance free for life of vehicle. The only maintenance done was the external pulleys replaced. Not having to worry about head gaskets or piston slap far outweighs the trouble of changing plugs every 60k or so... or the 6 quart oil changes . The opposed 6 cyl is probably the most perfectly balanced motor design. I love it. r/PK

You can lift an auto trans Brat. Uses the same kit, but should probably have four (4) more lift blocks for the auto trans crossmember. (been so long I cant remember) Talk to Scott at SJR, great guy, he'll hook you up. You may want the 4 or 5 speed later on anyway. Quite a lot more to it though > You will need a flywheel ($90) make sure you get the larger 8 7/8 diam version, clutch kit ($180), manual pedal assembly, manual driveshaft, and 3.90 rear diff.

Hi Chris, sorry no more kit building...
However, I have a few incomplete kits leftover that I will finish and have for sale in about two months -
I will advertise in classifieds here when available. thanks, Patrick.

I don't care who ya are, now that's funny right dere. Glad to re-aquaint, brother Tim. R/ Patrick -
Too late for me. While I had four online dealer quotes (which I would call good if they put $3000 cash in the glove box), I ended up scoring a mint '01 H6 LL Bean Outback that stole my heart, and saved my wallet. Still, thanks out to the lucky owners who answered and we can keep this thread for those with similar yearnings for the new Forester. r/ PK

Yes, routine lift -2" strut tops, 2" crossmember spacer, etc. - but only spaced the diff hangar in the rear an inch, and cranked the torsion bar a few turns for the best stance with minimal rake. All my axle angles are stock and will love you long time. My A-bar (short style) looks to bolt to the tow hooks, no prob w/lift - so you must have the long style A-bar which has better protection, but conflicts with lift. I don't have an immediate solution, sorry. On another note, to take care of the pesky cracked dash syndrom, I got this DL dash cover on ebay, fits great - made to order any color - $28 delivered within 5 days. I ordered charcoal, which was lighter than I thought, (I didn't want black and I didn't want gray) but turns out it matches the Sube gray interior almost perfectly. -

Thanks guys. She's only ugly if next to Brians... she looks good in the photos, but you can see freckles up close... but I still wouldn't kick either of them out of my, er garage. Ed, glad the Ins Co had some heuvos to capitulate. Brats are a niche collectible, and as more people restore them, they will gain pricing status. Thank you, ebay. Mine is a daily driver, and unfortunately to have original wheels and tires means taching 10,000 rpm on the freeway, lol. So it is not prudent for me to restore, but installing a small lift and proper tires (to cruise at 75) really makes this one drive wonderful (82 has close ratio 4-speed). r/PK -
Hello All, Brian's latest Brat is a gem, and I have its ugly twin sister. So here are my latest pics as promised - sorry for the low quality. I have installed a 2" lift and 25" tires on Pugs. Brian, I have square lights on roll bar vs round - maybe you can try photoshopping yours with square lights to see how it would look to eliminate the Mickey Mouse ears look? r/ PK

New Camera = New Brat Pix!
P K replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh Brian.... we are so on the same page. I just lifted mine 2 inches only. I have those 14" Pug alloys you sold me last year (or two ago), now with Kuhmo 25" tires. (I completely stripped the Pugs and repainted). I have a black roll bar and white (soon to be black) OEM A-bar. Drives nice - this will be an excellent daily driver (except for no A/C ). I will get some pics this weekend to share. R/ PK -
Hey Shawn, I agree, a Forester XT would be a slam dunk - except I just can't fathom to add another $4K to get it. (that's enough to buy another Legacy SS, for which I now regret selling my 93 - to quote Napolean Dynamite: "IDIOT!"). As we push the $30K limit now, visions of a Toyota FJ takeover. (Oh, did I type that out loud?) Still though, I would like to hear comments for any version 2009 Forester. thanks, PK.

WOW, Brian! That is amazingly beautiful... no other words. I think I have your twin (DL), and yours is something to aspire to now: I have had this sitting for nary 3 years, but it's running good and time to finish. I bought a full set of black decals from Poop almost two years ago - I hope they still stick, LOL. r/ PK -
EJ Swap - Different approach - Need your expertise
P K replied to P K's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
S'ko - no hurries - just vetting ideas, thanks! 'Tis a 1992 Loyale... but now me thinks (after talking with 'junkie, thanks Brian, lol) that an EJ in the Brat would be more fun. -
Hello All, Anyone ever put a bench seat in? Just for those needing to carry two passengers... no, inside, not in the rear jump seats, lol. I had a bench seat in my old Toyota pickup and it was convenient. The Brat is narrower, so it would be tight. The shifter is well forward, and I could fab the 4wd lever or go with push button. Can't think of any seat that would fit... maybe an old Datsun pickup bench? thanx in advance, PK p.s. Didn't forget, I'll call you, Zap.

EJ Swap - Different approach - Need your expertise
P K replied to P K's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Thanks all, I thought I had a Zen moment for awhile. However, I knew I that I would forget something, or the good folks here would enlighten me (and you did ) The disty/ECU trigger along with the other mods kinda kaboshes things with too much the effort. I think Chux, Crockett and Sko are right about going with a rewired harness. If and when I do - I'll pay for the Numbchux kit. Regarding the choice of the EJ18, it was at first to better accommodate EA82's SPFI. But primarily because there's a JDM importer in the OC just an hour away that sells them and the EJ20 SOHC for $450. The EJ22 is $950 and EJ25 is $1K. So I will party on and save $500. R/ PK -
Hello all. I don’t know if this approach has already been aired here, but tell me “brilliant”, or tell me no, it won’t work… but let’s discuss. 1. Let’s mount the EJ, using an SJR adapter to the EA82 trans in my Loyale. 2. The Loyale currently has SPFI (one injector), mapped for the EA82’s 1.8 liters, hence the reason to use an EJ18. (Maybe an EJ20, 22, or 25 would learn and work too, but for now, let’s focus on an EJ18.) 3. The EJ has MPFI (four injectors). Do not use the EJ’s injectors. 4. Drill into the EJ intake manifold or throttle body, and mount the SPFI injector into it, or 5. Adapt the EA82 throttle body to work on the EJ manifold. 6. If not 5, then adapt/route the EA82 snorkle and MAF to the EJ throttle body. 7. Use the Escort distributor set up on the passenger head port. 8. Use EJ Y-pipe. O2 compatible? Basically, I want to avoid re-wiring a harness, and not hassle a carburetor. Theoretically, I would only be changing the engine mechanicals, and let the fuel management, ECU, etc of the EA82 run the EJ18. Oui? Let’s discuss, correct, dispute, or improve this idea. Thanks, PK. Also but do not discuss here, but in another thread > EA82Ts have MPFI and if the above approach can work then one could probably just splice the four EA82T injector wires to the four EJ18 injectors, eh? same, same?

Hey Brian, Those are both too short, you will be spinning high rpms, even with 5 speed. I would not go less than 185x70-13 or for wider > 205x60-13. I have bought three sets of tires from ONLINETIRES.COM. Great customer service, good selection, inexpensive and low shipping costs, even though you pay state tax - still can't be beat even by TireRack. Go look: http://www.onlinetires.com/default.aspx?PageData=tireResults r/ PK
