My 86 GL 4x4 wagon. Not many this green?
Subarule replied to kybishop's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh man, I've always loved that color. Wish they had been more common years ago when I bought my '86 wagon, I would definitely have gone with it. -
Replacing the Headliner Material
Subarule replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The closest of either of those are 50 miles away from me. Not worth a 100-mile round trip drive. I like to order off the internet. The place I'd order from will send me fabric samples first, so I can see what I'd be ordering. -
Replacing the Headliner Material

Cannot find it there. Did a search and could not find anything related to headliners. Do you have a direct link to it? -

Replacing the Headliner Material
Subarule replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'll let the upholstery shop do all the work. Nothing I could tackle. The new material is $35.00 a yard at J. C. Whitney and a yard is 54" wide, which is a generous width. And free shipping over $75.00. I haven't taken measurements of my headliner yet. -
Replacing the Headliner Material

I said '86 wagon in my post, with the perforated leatherette material. What else should I include? -
I have the perforated leatherette-type material in my headliner. It was pristine ('86 wagon) until a couple of years ago when some #!*&$@!!! broke into the car and scraped holes all over it, leaving black scuff marks along with the gouges. I know where to buy the replacement material but is it possible to peel off the old stuff from the molded headliner and replace with the new or do I have to replace the entire headliner? I will have the work done in a professional shop but at this point I'm trying to get an idea of total cost.

Poll: Favorite Old Gen Model
Subarule replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It would be much more clear where/how to vote if you indicated that "Da Poll" is a link to where the voting is actually done. Not all people here are going to be able to figure it out from that cryptic clue. It really doesn't tell us anything. -
Replacing the carpet in an '86 GL Hatch
Subarule replied to Aviator's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My Bissell works fantastic! I use it to clean my handmade oriental wool rugs, my upholstered furniture, the cloth seats in my Sube. The steam cleaner is one of the best investments I ever made. And, no suds or sudsy foamy residue ever. I use an enzymatic cleansing liquid in it that gobbles up all biologic material in the fabric (we won't go in to what those might be). But whatever works in individual cases -

Or rent or borrow a carpet steam cleaner. Carpet will come out so clean, sanitized and good-smelling. If you know someone who has a Bissell upright ProHeat or the little Bissell SpotBot, that would be the way to go as they have the hand tools included to do upholstery/carpet. If you decide to go the steam clean route just be careful if you are doing carpet that's directly over metal because if you over-saturate the carpet or don't extract all the water back out the metal will start to rust from the moisture that's trapped between it & the carpeting. -
OK, now I understand. With the kind of driving I do my t-stat should last longer than I will.
-
I'm not following what you mean. Are you saying it's a one-time use t-stat? A disposable, like disposable cameras? I've been using this one for a year with no trouble at all. What problem(s) would/should I experience?

114 in the sun here today & yesterday. Verified with a friend a few miles away. So that's what people would have to work in if they were working outside in the sun. Very dangerous. I keep an eye on my coolant level just to make sure it stays at the filled level, no need to take chances even if the thermostat is doing a good job. One can blow a hose at any time. Although all my hoses are less than a year old. Cheap to replace all, and worth their weight in platinum for the peace of mind.

Since my Sub is w/out AC for now I make my iced latte runs before 10:00 am. I spent 1/2 the amount on my window ACs and the installation than what I was quoted by a shop to get my Sub's AC back up.
-
Humidity here today was and is 23%. Can you say "Mojave Desert"? I'm really, really mssing having my Sub's AC. Gotta' get that sucker going again. Instead of plowing money into the car AC I had 2 new window AC unit installed in my house less than a month ago. One 6K BTU and one 12K BTU. Man oh man am I glad I went with that instead of the car AC.

I figured that the Chehalis/Centralia area was baking. It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. Is that even possible?

How are the Subarus here doing during our triple-digits' heat? 114 degrees in the shade at my house at 2:30 p.m. today. Confirmed on two thermometers (one brand new as of today) and with friends' thermometers who live a couple of miles away. I was out & about in my '86 GL today, from about 11:00 am until 1:30 pm and it did fine. Never overheated & gauge stayed down below the half-way mark where it always is. Thermostat is a 192-degree 1972 - 1989 Subaru GL Beck Arnley Thermostat Thermostat (Price: $17.82) installed last August. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4113TN2XDXL._SL500_.jpg

Loyale acceleration hesitation
Subarule replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My car (year & model) does not have an O2 sensor. Really, it doesn't. I had bought anew one to replace the orginal one just this year and it turns out there isn't one to replace. And my vacuum leak was found by my mechanic at the shop I use. I don't know exactly what was done to fix the leak but it was either a fitting or a hose or both. But I had taken it in specifically to have the car checked for vac leaks. Wherever the leak was it was related to what draws vacuum to the HVAC blower. But keep in mind that my car is only a simple, non-feedback carbed model. No FI. As for how much it would cost a licensed shop to find yours, I imagine it would be about an hour's worth of whatever their labor rate per hour is, for probably an hour or so worth of diagnosing and then whatever replacement hose or fitting was required. It was well worth it to get rid of that annoying (and dangerous) hesitation. -

My heater/AC would make a sucking noise when I turned one or the other on. Fixed my vacuum leak and that went away along with that gas pedal hesitation. -

When mine used to run like that I called it "entering The Dead Zone". -

I had the exact same thing. Exactly. It drove me crazy and frustrated me no end. I have a carbed 1.8L '86 wagon. For me it was a vacuum leak. Finally traced down the leak, fixed, and car has run like a champ ever since. Still on the original not-rebuilt carb. I do run Marvel Mystery Oil through the gas tank with every fill-up. -
