Give me yer honest opinion here boys
Subarule replied to sparkyboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Spokes. They look cool when they're in motion. -
My Hitachi used to bog down when I'd give it gas to go from a stop sign or light. It would go "flat" - like blank spot in getting any fuel, and then take off normally. Drove me nuts. No issues at all after changing to the Weber.

Vacuum leak. For real. Experienced the same symptoms with my '86 for years, switched over to a Weber carb and voila! No more issues. Lots of the Hitachi's vacuum lines not necessary with the Weber so they're plugged off.

Brake fix it question and help with vacuum hoses
Subarule replied to Lastnoel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Replace the Hitachi with a Weber and you won't have vacuum line nightmares. -
I like to try inexpensive, practical things first. Buy a good quality fuel system cleaner, one that is designed for FI. Run it through the system, even more than once. That should give you a baseline for more diagnosing. 2019 best-rated fuel injector cleaners: http://oilandwaterproject.org/best-fuel-injector-cleaners/

KYB Shocks & Struts Question
Subarule replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was directed from an online KYB shocks & struts catalog to a nearby automotive repair shop as carrying what I want. Fortunately it is the best one in the region and the one I use. I need 4WD suspension. -

They are on Ebay, and for the same price listed in the catalog. -
KYB Shocks & Struts Question

Thanks. -
Anyone have the KYB part #s for shocks and struts that fit an '86 GL 4WD wagon? Nothing exotic, just OEM comparable as possible.
-
The speakers in my '86 went kablooey (technical term) in just a few years after being a new car. Some electrical malfunction, maybe moisture got into where it shouldn't have. Still have the original set-up, just know to not turn the radio on, it makes some awful staticky noise that makes you lose the will to live.

Thanks for replying, unfortunately I'm well past my dog companion years.
-
Is the dog available?
-
Probably because it has no rear bumper on it.
-
I understand. Glad you're keeping one "true".
-
Oh. I keep my '86 all stock except for the Weber carb. Keeps the car a true collector's car and the value continually rising.
-
Why did you want to do that?

Barracuda - did you used to sell the 4WD red decals on Ebay? The ones that look exactly like the originals. Or maybe they were the originals. -
88 gl Oil Pressure Gauge Reading Very High
Subarule replied to kayakertom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm pretty fanatical about keeping everything (within reason) in my '86 just like it came from the factory. If I need to replace something I go with OEM unless that is totally impossible. -
88 gl Oil Pressure Gauge Reading Very High
Subarule replied to kayakertom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The oil pressure gauge in my '86 has been reading high since day 1, over 30 years. It's a Subaru mfr. glitch. As long as you check the oil level once every 2 weeks or so (assuming you don't let it get low) you can ignore the gauge. They either start out wonky or get that way later on.
