  1. My Hitachi used to bog down when I'd give it gas to go from a stop sign or light. It would go "flat" - like blank spot in getting any fuel, and then take off normally. Drove me nuts. No issues at all after changing to the Weber.
  2. Vacuum leak. For real. Experienced the same symptoms with my '86 for years, switched over to a Weber carb and voila! No more issues. Lots of the Hitachi's vacuum lines not necessary with the Weber so they're plugged off.
  3. Genuine Original Equipment Replacement Parts 1984 SUBARU GL Base All Vehicles - 1984 - SUBARU - GL - Base - UNIVERSALS & REAR AXLE https://www.subarupartsamerica.com/parts/1984/SUBARU/GL/Base/?siteid=216122&vehicleid=45717&section=UNIVERSALS %26 REAR AXLE Most of the parts are discontinued but if you click on "View Part Diagram" it will give you the OEM part #, which might help in your online search and maybe you can find a direct replacement.
  4. You'll probably need new ones anyway if you change out transmissions.
  5. Replace the Hitachi with a Weber and you won't have vacuum line nightmares.
  6. You could try replacing the clutch and flywheel first, before spending hundreds on a transmission. Not that those won't run you a few hundred. It would be pretty grim if you replaced the tranny and then found out the clutch and flywheel are bad.
  7. I like to try inexpensive, practical things first. Buy a good quality fuel system cleaner, one that is designed for FI. Run it through the system, even more than once. That should give you a baseline for more diagnosing. 2019 best-rated fuel injector cleaners: http://oilandwaterproject.org/best-fuel-injector-cleaners/
  8. I see one in the KYB catalog that fits my car: Part Number For Rear 341065
  9. I was directed from an online KYB shocks & struts catalog to a nearby automotive repair shop as carrying what I want. Fortunately it is the best one in the region and the one I use. I need 4WD suspension.
  10. They are on Ebay, and for the same price listed in the catalog.
  11. Anyone have the KYB part #s for shocks and struts that fit an '86 GL 4WD wagon? Nothing exotic, just OEM comparable as possible.
  12. Run a fuel system cleaner product through all the fuel lines, starting with the gas tank.
  13. The speakers in my '86 went kablooey (technical term) in just a few years after being a new car. Some electrical malfunction, maybe moisture got into where it shouldn't have. Still have the original set-up, just know to not turn the radio on, it makes some awful staticky noise that makes you lose the will to live.
  14. Thanks for replying, unfortunately I'm well past my dog companion years.
  15. Probably because it has no rear bumper on it.
  16. I understand. Glad you're keeping one "true".
  17. Oh. I keep my '86 all stock except for the Weber carb. Keeps the car a true collector's car and the value continually rising.
  18. Barracuda - did you used to sell the 4WD red decals on Ebay? The ones that look exactly like the originals. Or maybe they were the originals.
  19. I'm pretty fanatical about keeping everything (within reason) in my '86 just like it came from the factory. If I need to replace something I go with OEM unless that is totally impossible.
  20. The oil pressure gauge in my '86 has been reading high since day 1, over 30 years. It's a Subaru mfr. glitch. As long as you check the oil level once every 2 weeks or so (assuming you don't let it get low) you can ignore the gauge. They either start out wonky or get that way later on.
