  1. Thanks, I'll give them a call. I need to take a photo of it assembled like it originally was before O'Reilly's guy took it apart (grrrr).
  2. Sounds like when my alternator was starting to fail.
  3. Junkyard, maybe. My locale only has one junkyard. I wonder how many years that particular rubber set-up was used?
  4. The rubber parts that anchor my hood prop bar to the body of the car came apart yesterday and the bar fell loose. It can't be reattached as the rubber pieces are too disintegrated. There are 3 rubber pieces - the guy at O'Reilly's pulled them apart and didn't put them back on correctly. Does anyone have this assembly in good condition that they don't need? I took the bar with the rubber parts on it to O'Reilly's yesterday but didn't have any luck there.
  5. Hey, thanks for that thought and the part numbers.
  6. Thank you for those. I'm going to look into them. Right now it's a process of returning the wrong one back to the online supplier and getting my money back. It took some talking to make them understand that I wasn't about to pay the shipping on the return.
  7. No, I didn't intentionally leave the belt off. As far as I know it's not seized. Maybe the shop that diagnosed it as non-functional left it off. I haven't tried to use it in a few years, when it stopped putting out cold air. Filling it with refrigerant didn't get it to work either. The heater works well.
  8. I took my car to one of the best shops in town that specializes in radiators & AC and that was where I was told about the different brands that Subaru used for that car. They also told me that rebuilding mine was nearly impossible due to not being able to find all the necessary parts.
  9. Here are the photos of my compressor. What do I have, factory or dealer-installed? Or can you tell?
  10. I will look into having mine rebuilt. I mean, they rebuild compressors all the time, so why not mine?
  11. What are the brand names of the OEM compressors that went into an'86 GL? Hitachi, Panasonic (I think), and what else? I took what was supposed to be an exact fit to my car (allegedly a new OEM) to the shop that was going to install it and found out that it won't fit and that it's not a Hitachi, which apparently is what I need. Before I purchased it the site I bought it from assured me that it was the correct one for my exact car. Turns out it's not. Maybe it's the one that sits in the center under the hood? While mine is offset near the battery.
  12. I've always wondered about using furniture polish. Haven't tried it though. So far I've only used a leather cleaner & conditioner on it. Yes, I know it's vinyl but the stuff works well. Personally, I don't like the idea of covering up the vinyl. I don't have a specific reason for that.
  13. That's what I would have thought too. It was all those initial choices, before getting in to the actual parts lists, that threw me. I had never seen that many fitment choices before.
  14. I was looking for struts & shocks. I was curious about the OEMS and prices.
  15. There are 2 GL base, 8 SOHC in that list. What's the difference?
  16. I bought mine in Colorado. Does that make it a 7 or an 8? And what the heck do those #s mean anyway?
  17. My 86 GL has a much more robust AC than my Ford Escape. The Escape's AC is wimpy even at optimal status.
  18. I'm looking at a Subaru parts place online. It wants me to select one of these for my 86 GL 1.8L. I looked at my VIN but I can't relate anything on it to any of these, other than I know my is non-turbo SOHC. Can someone interpret this for me? Select Trim Level below Trim Engine Type Fuel Type Engine VIN GL Base H4 - - 1.8 Liter GAS 7-OHV GL Base H4 - - 1.8 Liter GAS 8-OHV GL Base H4 - - 1.8 Liter GAS 7-SOHC GL Base H4 - - 1.8 Liter GAS 8-SOHC GL Base H4 - - 1.8 Liter GAS 7-SOHC GL Base H4 - - 1.8 Liter GAS 8-SOHC GL Base H4 - - 1.6 Liter GAS 10-OHV GL Turbo H4 - - 1.8 Liter GAS 8-SOHC

  20. Well, I did order a compressor online just now. Suppposed to be a brand new OEM. Parts rep stated firmly that it will fit my car, an 86 GL, after entering the necessary details into their parts search. We'll see.
  21. My compressor is located a bit to the left of center, looking out the windshield. Thank you for your replies.
  22. Anyone know what the part # is for the OEM compressor for an '86 carbed, 1.8L, GL?
